Soooooooooooooooooooooooooo muchhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh hypeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. Will it ever end. Nice read and in depth articles about the devs.

There arrogance is really starting to piss me off though just so you know. The "we know better then everyone else" attitude is getting old and will bite them once the game is released.

Really? Hype? This artilce is about the history of the company and the kind of people who work there. They are very pround of what they have done, but who wonldn't be. They barely talk about game features at all. What are they hypeing?

They've got *nothing* on Bioware, when it comes to arrogance.  But for the most part, they're very diplomatic when they refer to their competitors.  Only Mike O'Brien strikes me as a bit cocky.  I wish he would adopt more of a quiet confidence stance.

EDIT:  Oh, and I think they actually do know better.  But I'd prefer if they let their work speak to that though.

Since when did we care so much about the people who write the games we play.  Is the game enjoyable for me or is it not, that's the only thing I care about.

If  I knew of a great decorator who I know would make of great job of painting my house for a reasonable cost, I would not say as a customer  'omg he is so arrogant'  I would say, come decorate my house.

They provide a service, Im not going to marry them.

Anet and ncsoft are very confident in their product and so am i after experiencing it first hand...

This game is going to shake things up in a rather stale status quo industy and its been a long time coming..

Playing GW2..

There IS an unprecidented amount of hype surrounding this game. Whether it is justified or not time will tell, however, I didnt see any hype in that article at all.

It was a very interesting insight

The we are better then you thing is getting old. Every interview or dev panel I see they act high and mighty, but fail to mention not everyone likes Guild Wars and thought the game was incomplete for a number of years.

This GW2 will save genre stuff will lead to this game geting labeled as a complete failure by alot of people. You cannot set the bar that high, then believe your own hype. The entire dev conference MMORPG.com just hosted the ArenaNET guy took a "higher then mighty" opinion criticizing every single game out right now and then pointing to GW2 as some perfect game.

I am cheering for any game that loosens Blizzards stranglehold on the genre, but the ArenaNET devs do need a reality check that running a MMORPG is far different then running a niche CORPG.

Your right, those bastards, hyping their game through this article, what could they be thinking??  Those arrogant jerks writing about how happy they are creating a promising MMO game that has millions of people looking foward to it.  Being happy that their hard work and determination finally paying off as the game wins awards and getting unrelenting praise even pre-launch.  They shouldn't be talking about that stuff, talking about it and being happy about it is just arrogance and hype,

I know what your saying about the "We know better than you" mentality, I mean they should be doing a WoW clone like every other company, THEY are the ones who really know what they are talking about.  I mean why evolve the industry when going with the same tried and true formula that has worked for the better part of a century is always an option?  Silly Arenanet and their arrogant efforts at trying new ways to connect a community through new and interesting game mechanics that further the way gamers think about playing the MMO genre.

And talking about these new features is just ALL HYPE, I mean telling it like it is is just riding the hype train, they should do what SWTOR did and just brag about how many awards they are going to win and already have won, thats what people want to hear about, not the promises of game features that improve on their already amazing formula.

(btw, that was all sarcasm)

How you could have read that article and found the developers arrogant is beyond me. Pretty humble staff if you ask me. Very good read, you should give it a look.

I see. Though I'm not familiar with the incidencts you describe, I'll admit, GW2 has lots of hype behind it. I personally feel that it's founded, but thats personal opinion.

Still, none of that relates to the article.

I say again, why would we as customer give 1 damn about the dev's attitude, do they care about their customers, and is it a good game - thats the only things we need to care about.

i wonder if there could maybe be some sort of reason why they publicly only have good things to say about their product.

maybe if i herped and/or derped less i could figure it out!

Maybe because the top 20  posted that were wrong with TOR 17 of them turned out to be the TOP 17 reasons people unsubbed. It is called being fair and balanced when evaluating a mmorpg and not just a doe-eyed fanboi amazed by every little minor pitiful leak.

This game is not impressing me as much obviously as it is impressing you guys. There just needs to be a reality check of what this game will and will not do. Not sure if anyone here realizes, but WoW gets stronger everytime the labeled "WoW killer" does not live up to this insane hype.

Where has this magical faith in ArenaNET come from honestly? Up until 1 1/2 years ago because the hype machine went into full drive people could give 2 shits about Guild Wars and thought ArenaNET was a bad dev who did not have what it took to even compete against Blizzard.

Now 2 years of delays on a game that was promised in 2011 Summer we are hyped again. WHERE THE HELL IS THE OUTRAGE OVER no open beta in December of 2011 like they touted?

I think the guy was more making a general observation of the overhyping as done by some hardcore GW2 fans.

As for some statements that could objectively be regarded as much as hyping as well as (over?)confidence:

"I think Guild Wars 2 is going to be the highest quality game ever released: - Mike O'Brien

'Something that stood out for Randall Price was Guild Wars 1 passing five million sales. (It's now sold more than 6.5 million, making it one of the most successful PC games ever.) All of those fans, Price believes, are "frothing at the mouth for what we can do in the future".'

"Any of us, we want to look back at our lives and go 'wow, we really shook up the industry, we really made a game that changed the way people thought about gaming.' We've had an opportunity to do that. ... We have an amazing future ahead of us."'

Everyone who has ever bought and played GW is 'frothing at the mouth' for what ANet people can do? There have been tens of thousands of games over the years, with hundreds top-of-the-bill highest quality games among them. Yet GW2 will be the highest quality game ever released in 35 years of gaming?

I can see comments like this in perspective with an amused smile, not the first time that devs make extreme statements out of overtly excited. But at the same time they can be considered hyping. In fact, I'm pretty sure that it has been regarded like that when less extreme statements were being made by other devs and game company representatives over the years.

Don't see much throwing around of the term 'WoW killer', besides that, WoW isn't going stronger at all anymore: it's in a decline with decreasing subs, and the only thing that will be influenced is the speed with which the decrease will continue.

I agree on the point that some people as usual are going into hyper mode for the MMO of their choice, but nothing will ever change that, no matter what MMO.

Did you notice when Mike O'Brien said that nothing would kill WoW except WoW?  I take that to mean that he doesn't see GW2 as a WoW-killer.  Given how arrogant you think ArenaNet is, what did you take it to mean?

EDIT:  Missed this part.  OK, you really are full of it.  Stew in your own BS then.
