One huge thing just jumped out at me. I don't know why I did not realize it before.
The only reason the hotbar in D3 is so wimpy and pale when compared to D2 is... It looks designed for a console/controller. There is no other real explanation. They moved all the customization into the skills themselves and removed the ability to have many skills on the hotbar. I had a lot of keybinds in D2 and you could change what skills were binded to mouse 1 and mouse 2 on the fly. |

It's true, the 0.0001% of the Diablo 3 playerbase that is made up of mmorpg.com forum posters will indeed judge it on MMO terms. Not sure how Blizzard will survive that to be honest. |

As for the game it was pretty fun, sure tis dumbed down and thats a massive shame.. infact that goes for all recent so called RPGs.. for some reason the devs have got ti in their heads that RPGs where too complicated and needed to be made easier.. bah... Still it plays just as good as the old ones and i did have a good time testing what content they had in the beta.. Main gripe is the silly cartoon graphics and crappy low rez texures they have used.. it takes away from the grit the first 2 had :( not its like watching a crappy cartoon..
Still it might be worth picking up cheap on amazon.. |

After wiping out the beta to easily and then looking at some leaked beta footage from a couple months ago combined with learning there are 4 modes normal, nightmare, hell and inferno instead of 3 and that youi have a ton of optimization if you turn use manual skill setup on in the interface i did the only logical thing i could and pre-purchased it to accompany GW2...
Playing GW2.. |

I must have missed the memo where games need to be "innovative" to be fun. |

This is just my opinion, but I think some of us older gamers who were there before and for D1 and then for D2, are just simply turned off by what we are seeing. D1 was unique in its own right and what it was and what it did created many loyal fans to the original gameplay and story / mechanics. D3 is so far from that originality it is nearly another creature entirely. A lot of you youngsters are seeing D3 as the first you have played, without having played D1 in its time. So D3 is fine for you, because that is what you know , D3.

Originally posted by Fuggly I played them all and I can see what you are saying. I also have beta'd D3 for at least 50-100 hours. D3 is much more action oriented. Dark Souls and Demon Souls are two of my favorite games and they remind me of D1 and D2 in a way. There is still a huge draw for me with D3 though because it is such a fun game and has some amazing aspects. It doesn't satisfy me in the way D1, D2, or Demons Souls, Dark Soulds does on many aspects, but it satisfies a different itch. This can be said with all games though. Oblivion and Skyrim are no where near the experience that Morrowind was for me. They are still worthy games though. |

Honestly all of the above posters have excellent points pro and con. While D3 might seem to offer less customization we really wont know until the game comes out whether the additional levels offer more robust combinations than D2. It doesnt feel as right as D2 did to me. Perhaps I am biased. It still is fun to play even though the weight of doom and gloom exhibited in D2 is missing from the first act (assuming we've seen the entire first act). But the gothic flavor is definitely missing for reasons that I dont understand. Perhaps it is because you dont feel that the undead are really attacking/corrupting the town. Not that you are playing Hello Kitty Island mind you, but that feeling from Diablo 2 that the end of the world is nigh is definitely not a part of D3 at this stage. That is disappointing. I love the graphic elements and environment of the beta, particularly the interaction with the various dungeon areas. HOWEVER, I kept asking myself as i knocked down bookshelves, what is the point? Why cant blacksmith recipes or other scrolls drop? Perhaps later in the game? Otherwise it is just empty beyond words. I do think the runes should have been found in game as well as abilities. That was a dumbed down change as well that is pretty stupid. But I guess I remain optimistic that it will be a fun run through and that I will do it on multiple characters. Still replayability may be a major problem ..... |

Originally posted by Unlight Thats not true. The main reason D3 is online is DRM. Blizzard cannot continue making PC games and allow piracy to go on unabated and stay in business. I doubt you will ever see another AAA title PC game thats not either online or DLed online and authenticated because of this. You can thank the criminals for that. The RMT shop, hacker control, and PvP when it arrives are secondary to this |

D3 to the action rpg genre is the same as WoW to the mmo genre.

Originally posted by Fuggly The main problem with Diablo 3 in my opnion its his name, if it was called "The fallen star" or some stuff, people would stop comparing it to other diablo games and just see what the game is itself, a good and fun game, what else do we need? |

Originally posted by Fuggly Im not looking for that one perfect and unique game, Im looking for entertainment. Challenging entertainment. And Im sure that D3 will provide exactly that. The fact that I have played both previous installments is an added bonus, to continue to venture in the world of Diablo. Now, as to things like Blizzard, Activision, Stocks or even the "Look how smart I am, I thought up of the term WoWablo", I spit on that. Games are about games. A lot of people have forgotten that, or rather never learnt it. But hey, it seems that whenever a game is due to release, it gets these kind of comments. You name it, it has been said. But heres the thing: these "discussions" arent discussions. Theyre pissing contests. 0___x "I'm afraid I can't do that, Dave". |

Seems to be loads of haters on this game, but honestly, who cares? The game is going to sell massive amounts of copies, millions of people will play it and love it, and 10 years from now it will still be full of players, just like Diablo 2 is. How many of you that are bitching about it were actually around when Diablo first came out? Diablo 2? Willing to bet a very small portion. I for one enjoyed the beta, and plan to buy it. Sure, a lot has changed in the game but honestly most of the complaints I have seen are about trivial things like skill point allocation and skill trees, really? REALLY? Did you really expect them to keep such a primitive system in this day in age. Just copy/paste Diablo 2 in a new skin? I for one love the way that I'm not going to have to rebuild each character for every playstyle I want to try. People have less and less time to play games these days and if you really have time to max out dozens of different characters to play 20 different builds then you possibly need either a job or a life. The Diablo 3 style of skills works out really well for a lot of us old time battle.netters who have followed the franchaise since the start and have families and full time jobs now. And don't get me started on the graphics, it's Blizzard, they have always brought you a different style to be able to play their games on even the lowest end PC's. It's smart, in a business sense, and only the really anal are going to give 2 shits about having to have the best graphics for every game they play.
You all do realize though, THIS IS THE SAME EXACT THING THAT HAPPENED WHEN DIABLO 2 RELEASED. A lot of of the older generation gamers bitched about Diablo 2 not being what Diablo was. And look at it today, still alive, still thriving. Not going anywhere. If you love Diablo 2 so much, then go play it, it's not like they are going to discontinue it's service since 3 is on the way. So cry all you want, but Blizzard has made PC gaming what it is today. Like it or not. Even though they took WoW down the shitter after the first xpac, still droves of people still play it, and bought every xpac, and devote infinate hours of their lives to their games. Expect the same result from Diablo 3, because it's inevitable. Sincerely, A Diablo Fanboi |
