Look, we all know there's no way in hell you're gonna clock in to work while there's a beta event happening, so start formulating good excuses to ditch work now. Try to be original. The old.."I think i got the flu" just doesnt cut it any more. Employers arent that dumb. Try..... 1) Uncle died. grieving and funeral that weekend 2) Twisted your ankle changing a tire on your car. 3) Toilet overflowed and flooded your house 4) Grandma had a nervous breakdown and needs you 5) Abducted by aliens (well, maybe not this one) You get the idea! |

"Im Waxing my Ferret" Claim you have Chicken Pox / Shingles (infectious but clears up after 3/4 days) "Lady Problems" as long as you are a woman and have a male boss, he just wont ask any questions. (Please note, this will not work if you are a man) Say you have gone sailing with a friend and the boat has run aground and you cant get off (this actually happened to me once) If you work in an environment where you have to talk to the public etc, claim to have lost your voice. Send a text and/or get somone else to call in for you, and if/when your boss calls just make sqeaking noises down the phone Cluck Cluck, Gibber Gibber, My Old Mans A Mushroom |

Luckily I work from home all the time. So I'm just planning on going to bed early Thursday, working my butt off Friday morning - and since I live in Mountain Time once beta starts I'll already be in the non productive part of Friday, so hopefully no one notices - I'll keep an eye out on my work computer while figuring out how to dodge :) Monday is a different problem.....I expect I won't be functioning on all cylinders, I think all my relatives died off in previous game releases, can't use that my car is broken, internet access has been stable for last year or so, no more major construction in neighborhood so power doesn't go out for hours anymore, neighbor already almost ran his car into my house this year (really)....There again Mondays are just meeting days - spend at least 4 hours sitting in boring meetings with mute on and the rest of time reading reports to prepare for meetings - think I can sleep through all that. Trying to duck work to play a video game is extremely irresponsible. The worst part is that I guarantee some of the posters in this thread (who will be using poorly produced excuses to dodge work) have children. Great way to set an example for them... |

Originally posted by Auzy LOL YES ^ Being 'severely sick', and following that up w/ massive diarrhea always works. It's so gross no one wants to think about it, let alone debate with you whether or not you're lying. Definitely my last resort excuse if I can't make it (though being freelance gives me a few more options than I'd normally have as staff). - Side note: The even is 2 weeks away. Unless you are working w/ slave drivers, you'd be surprised. Sometimes the honest approach works best. "Hey I need to take friday/monday off next week. I've got some personal matters to take care of". As long as you aren't doing that all the time, people are usually fine w/ it. |

Originally posted by aesperus This is true. 2 weeks is plenty of notice to book some holiday/vacation time off of work, then you even get PAID for playing GW2. (As long as you have holiday allowance left) Cluck Cluck, Gibber Gibber, My Old Mans A Mushroom |

Originally posted by stragen001 True, but if they say no you can't call in sick in the last moment. If you think you can get the time off a few days vacation is by far the best alternative. If it on the other hand is hard to get a few days off i suggest sick leave. |

If you want to risk ending up like this guy over a game, then maybe you can skip work: Intern caught in fairy outfit!

Originally posted by Kost Dude, this thread was meant in a lighthearted way and not meant to be taken seriously, lol. But....you got me thinking....quit work altogether and go on welfare! then you can play any MMO 24/7. while you're at it ditch the wife too and get a dog. they just curl up at your feet and could care less how much you play! |
