Thats the thing, there will be no server infamy, or very little at that. with rotating servers it will take sooooooooo long to figure out who is the better players. DAoC you were always pitched against the same people, so most of the time you've fought that person before. Especially with zerg leaders, Alb had so many, Billings, Oprah, Rescu, Kzar, i know i'm forgetting a few. Mid i remember one particularly, Clumssy lol his fat green ass, Hib back in the old days, i think his name was Valor? now we got a german, can't remember his name. point being, everyone knew these people, and would say in region, Billings zerg crossing so and so, everyone knew how he played, so we knew if we set-up against billings, he would hit the keep for 30 minutes, we would hold him off and he would die and that was that. Clumsy though, that mofo brought SIEGE, and when i say siege, i mean he brought 20 rams, 20 trebs and countless palintones, so we knew we were in for it when he came over in force. GW2 won't have that knnowledge ability that we had in DAoC. People will know who to follow within their own server, but as far as opposing servers go, you never know what to expect, which i kind of like in some ways, but don't in others. I do think 2 weeks is short, 1 month sounds a little bit better of a time span, it lets people some what figure out the other server, and try different things against them, i do know that first week is going to be a mad dash for the orb of power... that ought to be fun :)

The "Youtube Pro": Someone who watches video's on said subject, and obviously has a full understanding of what is being said about such subject.

I'd like see enemy names in GW2, tho. At least the names of good/active players.

I do not consider not knowing my opponents an improvement, wheres the rivalry, good enemies are as important as good friends in pvp mmos

I do not consider taking a fort then loosing it an hour later when the 2 week timer ticks an improvement

I do not consider being a third of the size an improvement

I do not consider having the distraction of e"sports" in the same game an improvement - gives pvpers somewhere to hide when its going against them

Also - darkness falls.

YES! E-sport could ruin the WvW feel of the game. When a server starts losing cause they are outnumbered, they will leave that and go scenario it up, leaving WvW open and vulnerable.

i remember back in doac i used to get my weapon poisoned on my healer and go out into alb territory and kill off some stragglers solo. Before radar i used to hide behind trees and wait for victims to come by.

what i liked best was that if i managed to take someone out ..it would post a message that would inevitably bring more to come look for me. some would know my name and come get me solo.. others would bring a full group..

it was all good fun...early doac was the best...

If one of your opponent servers is dominating, then 2 weeks would seem a long time, on the other hand if your server is dominating, what a blast!

Time will tell on this one, imo

I think in the beginning it is a good time, but as server matchups become better, it could maybe be extended, but I am good with it.

I think thats why they limited it to 2 weeks. They want to keep people interested instead of having one team losing for a prolonged period of time. I think if they were a month or longer, a lot of people would stop doing WvW if they were on a losing server. Which they don't want.

Furthermore, when you look at the lifespan of most new MMOs, 2 weeks is a long time. Most MMOs start to shrink severely after just a few months.

Seam perfect to me. Castle siege are for one week in usual mmo, even if they are not about constant fight. So based on this i think that's enough to have a lot of action without the game sinking into a one way battle.

Two week battles and nameless opponents work well in context. Consider what the Mists represent... an area created by the gods to test us mortals. In their infinite godly wisdom (in case they're reading this) they've chosen to pit all of Tyria not against itself in these dragon cursed times, but against these nameless simulcra, these things that look almost like us but aren't us. They're merely blue, green or red tinted challenges that stand between us and receiving the gods blessing on Tyria to aid us in our struggles against the dragons. They may look like us, they may even fight like us... but they're not us. They're not Tyrian... they're... something else. And we Tyrians, united, will defeat them.

 

The two week time period is when the gods judge whether or not we're worthy of their blessings for the next cycle. If successful, all of Tyria benefits equally. If we fail... well, we can stand to be tested yet again.

I think its also so the "Power of the Mists" bonuses don't get too high.  With two-week-long battles, the bonuses from upping your War Score are nice perks but don't end up getting so high that it becomes frustrating when the battle resets.

I think its also so the "Power of the Mists" bonuses don't get too high.  With two-week-long battles, the bonuses from upping your War Score are nice perks but don't end up getting so high that it becomes frustrating when the battle resets.

that is why i think they will be selling said "bonuses" in the cash shop.  cause after 2 weeks, playing without them, will feel weird.

Yup, too short. Not persistent. Giant 2 week battleground with population caps.

Furthermore, when you look at the lifespan of most new MMOs, 2 weeks is a long time. Most MMOs start to shrink severely after just a few months.

why would it feel weird? its only extra numbers, its not like they give you special abilities that you will miss out.

Because players like him and wormed are used to having special bonuses, at all times, they feel naked without them.

Not really, at least at the start. I believe the way opposing worlds in this system will be decided is by objective score and current rank. Especially at the start, having shorter battles will allow largely imbalanced matches to be reduced greatly earlier. However, I still think that two weeks is a bit long, especially if one world just completely dominates every objective in the map.
