This embodies why I have a problem with your position. Having a "gut" feeling is not the same as it being true. More over it certainly does not warrent the response you gave in this thread. You do not "know" you "think"... it is an opinion. One you have every right to have, but must support if you decide to promote them on a forum. 

I have no problem with you personally (don't even know you so won't assume anything). However, what you have offered up in this thread is not substantive which you admit in your response. Again, you have every right to express your opinion, just don't be shocked when it gets challenged. I applaud all women gamers because it makes the industry stronger. It's just mean.

If I was telling somebody how pretty my baby was, and they said 'She's not that pretty!  Let me show you a picture of this baby, which is prettier and also smarter', I would have to beat that person to death with their own face.

Now, granted, I don't have that level of attachment to any celebrities.  I simply don't care.  That doesn't make it any less horrifying as a behavior.

Just because some people get all weird and all 'Oh!  So pretty!' doesn't justify the opposite behavior.  I could also go into my issues about how weird it can be to be gushing over somebody, but I think other people have that fully covered.

So I'm going to cover the 'dont' be a dick and talk about how somebody isn't sufficiently attractive by your standards' angle, thank you very much.

I have a lower tolerance for it than a lot of people here. Im used to it. I get flamed for it. I get told to grow a thicker skin or adapt or "welcome to the internet" all the time. But everyone has their limit. Yours is different than Distopia's and both of you are different than mine. Thats ok. Acknowledging our differences of opinion is a good step.

Basically what this comes down to is that when a person is used to sell something, that person becomes objectified. Objectification, no matter how mild or subtle, is still unhealthy social behavior. Turning someone into an object, ie pretty or not pretty, smart or stupid, hardcore gamer or fabricated fangirl results in dehumanization which is a form of aggression, which can be seen constantly in all mediums and even prevalent in this thread. Is it worthy of a global boycott of all things we are sold across all forms of media? Not personally, no. Some people do. They aren't wrong. We ignore what we can put up with in order to function in society. Once a personal tolerance level is reached, then stuff like this discussion here occurs.

     My point was that if this girl is trying to sell herself as a sex and gamer symbol, then she has failed spectacularly on both fronts. A gamer would have more respect than to treat all those old games and consoles with such disreguard, and a sex symbol should be someone that elicits a degree of interest in sex, which for me at least, she doesnt. I have to second what someone else in this thread mentioned about her looking like a potential asian cross dresser. If seen to many of the goth/lolita crowd to not see the possibility for that with this one.

Hell Felicia shows way more skin that Faye.. bikini shot? wet t shirt shot? As to Faye's gaming she has a regional championship in gaming as well as other wins. Not because she is or isnt (this) attractive. But she just seems to show nothing but contempt for games in this photo. The fact that she has been a game champion of some kind doesnt do anything to take away from the fact that she clearly seems ok with holding games itself in such contempt. But then again i know of many people who are good at things they hate or care nothing for. I certainly wouldnt label them according to what they dont enjoy.

     In this case i just see a woman that happens to be good at games using it a smokescreen to bolster her relative attractiveness. I just happen to think i would rather screw that superfamicon in the picture than her.

The point wasn't really about what they've done, the point was someone's interests or lack there of are hardly /picard worthy. I just used a few semi-famous people who unless you're into what they do, you'd never ever hear of them or know Henry Rollins' real name.

Sorry this is a strawman argument. Anyone who listens to that type of music most certainly would know these names. Nice trick using Henry Garfield instead of Henry Rollins (which many people know). 

Little known fact about Henry Rollins... Anyone moving in the US Herpetology circles knows HR too. He has been and is a big snake fan. 

Probably very few on here know who Sachin Tendulker is, but those who follow Cricket would almost certainly know the name. Falicia Day is well known in MMORPG and geek circles. So those who have not heard of her are kind of a surprise given the forum we are on and the game we are talking about.
