Just watched this again this morning (this time with sound!) and wow... just wow. The PvE part was awesome, but the PvP section at the end was just... mind blowing. Compare that to the conference footage and stuff of first timers playing, holy crap can you see how important player skill is going to be in PvP.

Ok, here is a tiny critique in the line of GW2 thinking. I do have the impression, GW2 requires a lot of "thinking" as a team. Like he explains, this skill makes a debuff and vulnerability on a mob and tells the team mates "hey this mob is vulnerable". Reality is, most players are as intelligent and 3 days old bread. So many times in PVP recently I stunned an enemy, but in 95% of the cases my PUG team ignored that, immediately attacked the enemy who was swirling helplessly in the air, thus breaking the stun. Thinking people really cooperate in such subtle things as "this mob is vulnerable now 8 seconds, pls attack it NOW" seems like expecting a kindergarden to play chess. Holy Trinity who art in our MMORPGs! Blessed be thy speccs, as in WOW so in all MMOs! Our daily loot grant us, and forgive us our noobness, as we forgive the noobs! And do not lead us to disconnects, But deliver us from mediocrity, For thine is the specialization and the teamwork and the endgame, Until cancellation, Amen! |

This video looks really good. The animations are fluid and really well done (I mean compare it to e.g. secret world). Looking forward Playing: Nothing atm My game concept thread: http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/369707 (any feedback appreciated) |

I frankly blame WoW for this. WoW had a real difficulty curve in vanilla but after expansions starting coming out, the content got easier and easier over time. In early WoW if you didn't use things like CC in early dungeons and raids, you would get destroyed. But today nobody ever uses any CC accept on specific fights that need it to win. Most of the stuff you just 'faceroll' through. Because of this, most of the people newer to WoW (post-vanilla) just haven't 'learned' to play as a team. They just use their rotation (which usually consists of repeating 4 key presses) and blew past stuff. No need for CC, no need for possitioning or thinking about what your team needs. Just blast through it. I remember BC raiding with my Hunter and I literally used two buttons with macros on them 90% of the time. I would read, watch TV, hell I could leave the computer for a few seconds to refill my drink. Yet I was always towards the top of the DPS list. It really was mind boggling. Anet has actually mentioned this as one of the things people are going to need to re-learn. They are going to have to learn again how to work with your team instead of just being in your own little space. DPS, Tank and Heal in WoW don't really 'play together', they just play in their own little spheres and do their own job and blow through the content. I think this is also why some folks have called the combat in GW2 easy mode, just button mashing. Because it just doesn't work the way they are used to things working. As this video shows, against more challenging mobs (even if they are lvl 11) you cant just tank n' spank everything. Those people who stand there and take it are going to die, and a lot. Those who just sit in their own little bubble and hit their rotation in group play or dungeons, are going to suck at the game. It's just one more of a dozen things poeple are going to have to re-learn in GW2. So many things that we've all just been totally brainwashed by games like WoW that some still cannot even imagine an MMOG working any differently. It's why there are still people on these and other forums that insist that GW2 has tanks and healers because they cant wrap their minds around the possibility that an MMOG can work without the trinity. |

The horn was gone and so were most of the boosts. The only one left was the XP Boost. I do believe that the 12 slot bag was gone too. I wish they have left that open, it really showed that Anet listened to us and made changes accordingly. Such a rare thing these days. :) |

Seriously though, there is absolutely nothing fun about having a game provide you with 30 or so inventory slots and then throw hundreds of items at you. I can remember the last time I enjoyed emptying items into a bank or a vendor or a mailbox every hour. It was never. Have to agree with Distopia here. Intentionally inconveniencing players regarding bag space just so they could sell cash shop items to help alleviate said inconvenience is just deceptive. In general, I'm ok with properly implemented cash shop models; but this is an example of one way in which a (usually) f2p game offers you a less-than-full game to play for free, and banks on players paying money for each individual part to make up the complete game, which would tend to cost far more than a standard sub fee. For the most part, GW2's cash shop seems completely fine, but this would definitely classify as one example of a bad item should it reach live. And it's one item I know I'd be stuck buying, because there's no way I will run around and try to play the game only to have the "your inventory is full!" message pop up over and over and over again (as it seems to do in every single beta video we've seen)... |

Originally posted by Fion That's the point, in the trinity your role in combat is simple. As tank you hold aggro, as DPS you dish out damage, as healer you heal. End of story. As everything a bit, your role constantly shifts. While that sure is cool, how many player can actually cope with that? I wonder. Holy Trinity who art in our MMORPGs! How can people say that mesmer is dumped down? look at it.. it looks crazy as hell. there is a lot more to it than just auto pets that explode as people were whining about.
im so sick of people who think looking at convoluted debuffs and bars that have crazy metrics is super complex and cool. i admired the original mesmer in gw1 but it was complicated, and complicated does not necessarily mean fun, though i expect to be called a idiot who just does not get it. i think this looks much better because its visually rewarding on the screen. im watching it. its not just a stupid little icon like in other games.
thats why i think mesmer in gw2 looks like the best caster ive ever seen in a game. and oh yeah. HE SHOOTS FREAKIN LAZER OUT OF HIS SWORD.
LAZER BEAMS OUT OF HIS SWORD. HIS SWORD for god sakes! |
