I'm amazed how few people on here have heard of Felicia and her spoof series The Guild. It's been going for a quite a while. I thought it was standard issues for most mmo gamers, especially WoW players. Ah well. Very surprised. |

Players come for the game, but they stay for the people- Most Devs have forgotten this. |

Because it's about a guild who only know each other through their characters in-game, they are obviously playing a WoW-like game, it's funny and uses gamer in-jokes and typical mmorpg motifs, it's popular and it's been around for a quite a while. I thought it was well known amongst the mmo gamer community, so i'm surprised at how many on this thread have not heard of it. Go to YouTube and see what you think. Maybe start with the first series though. |

I read a couple of posts here and i got to say that i cant put in my head how are people amazed at particular girl being a gamer... I mean, come on. Even my ex-gf was a gamer, and followed games more hardcore than me. More than half of girls in my company are gamers. Maybe this is over a top a bit, but very few girl that i talked to, mentioned things like Farmville, Sims or anything similar on FB when me or her started topic about games (yet it has proven that they are low intelligence ones). You would be amazed how many girls are playing games hardcore. Felicia is cute, have nice voice and all of that, and thats all. For me to decide if i want to be with her/mary her/spend a night with her/walk in park with her, i would need to meet her in personal, to see her attitude, to know her interests. Being cute is not everything for anyone with common sense. This being said, I can freely say that i even know a couple of local celebrities in person that seems to be duchebags on TV and all, but in reallity are nice people. Considering being girl in-game: i am one of those guys that use Female characters in many games (lol @ my sig :D). Main reason is that i love Heroines in Roleplaying Games, Comic Books, Novels etc. However when i see some weirdo that automaticly think that female character = female irl, i use him as much as i can. It is their fault that they cant tell what is game and what is real life. Sad thing is that you cant get rid of girl-hunters in game once they start to bothering you. Somehow they are fanatically sure that they will gonna meet you in real life even when you live in Europe and He is living in South pole. Main MMO at the moment: Guild Wars 2 |

If you didn't intend to give that implication, elaborate how you think "Felicia being successful" is the "real reason" for hating her. |

Originally posted by TwoThreeFour Simply because people like to tear down celebrities, even minor ones. There is a whole industry built on it... called reality TV. The majority of people out there unfortunately love to see people fail or tearing them down if they are successful. This is not necessarily jealousy, however that can be a cause of it. Please point out one rational argument on why Felicia Day is detrimental to female gamers. I have heard a lot of venom towards her, but little substance. I have asked already in this thread to be pointed towards the evidence... none has been given. So I have answered your question... now answer mine... Why the hatred towards her... not just dislike or criticism, but out right hatred (as admitted in a previous post). There simply is not a rational argument to be made, but instead of having a discussion on how to make female gaming better you are here attacking me for no good reason. Bravo. -Atziluth- - Never underestimate the predictability of stupidity. |

Thus, she's created a fanbase and she became indemand. I give her credit for that. This looks like a job for....The Riviera Kid! |

Why does the idea of the female gamer have to be one of the exotic entity? When today female gamers are a common thing. I'd argue they always were. To make it worse this goes for males or females, the idea that a gamer can't be attractive, social or have a "life". For many I don't think it has much to do with tearing down celebrity, more so the idea of tearing down a pretense formed by the media and stereotypes. I hate felicia Day and I think she is overrated. I sincerely believe the only reason why she is half as popular as she is, is because she is a "real" gamer. In any other area she would just be a moderately attractive women. |

Originally posted by atziluth I have expressed strong negative opinions regarding different subjects in this thread, my main strong dislike (or "hate) is towards the non-teenagers who use expressions such as "OMG Felicia Day!" since they reinforce negative stereotypes which forces me to be very careful with how I use the words "gamer", "geek" and "nerd" in real life.
I want to use the word "gamer" as if it was "game connoisseur" without having to deal with different stereotypes regarding manners, humor and social prowess.
As for "Felicia Day" herself: I know too little about what is considered to be "good" voice acting to be able to judge whether or not her inclusion significantely increases or decreases the overall quality. I can imagine that a good voice actor is able to quickly convey a feeling/setting in accordance with the director's vision. If that's the case, I would have to first know the director's intentions to be able to judge how good the voice acting was.
I can imagine that people who know more about Felica Day, have better grounds on which they can analyze her underlying motivations and from them judge if she is being dishonest or abusive in any way. Personally, I think artists of any form should have a lot of leeway when it comes to their art.
I do not particularely like any of the media productions in which I've seen her, but I do not automatically blame her for that, since I am under the impression that she is simply acting in those productions.
To reiterate: I have a minor dislike for the productions, which I've seen, in which Felicia Day appeared, but I do strongly dislike non-teenagers going "OMG Felicia Day!".

I'm a gay male so I don't find her physically attractive, but I still love her, and not because she is a gamer, but because she created the best web-series and was in Buffy.
Jealous people like you need to crawl back under your rock. The OP was happy to have her in GW2, why spoil that for him?
Go away. Thanks. |
