Two words come to describe the problem with a general chat channel:

Espescially in a game that has coop gameplay, but does not focus on grouping general zone wide chat is very very important.
Since the game also lacks an auto groupiong system for the instanced explorable group mode, there also needs to be a worldwide LFG or General chat channel.
I agree with the OP, arenanet is missing out on this one, big time. Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) |

Voted no, it's usually the first thing I work out how to turn off when I start a new MMO. |

I love the idea of no general chat. Makes for a much more realistic experience. So instead of people spamming LFG or LTB or LTS, you actually have to grab peoples attention. You'll have to run around and say unique things like "Hey! You with the shirt! Wanna group with me?" I'm all for no general chat. |

Originally posted by Lord.Bachus Dynamic events pop up on explored areas of your map. So there's no need to fthe (LFG) in guild wars. Why would you be looking for G? there are no Gs. You can just go to the area and you're in G. |

I think none of the games should have that general chat, it really pushes me away from the game's ambiance. Guild Chat is more than enough. ? even think that in sanbox games, the only chat should be the vicinity chat and if you want to contact your friends pigeon mail etc should be only way to contact. |

And this is why I want them to bring the megaphone back. It shouldn't be cheap (either with gold or cash). So that you really have to think about what you want to broadcast to the world.
"This megaphone is almost as loud as one of Chuck Norris's farts. Almost. That is all. You're welcome."
That . . . is worth the gold. And this is probably why general chat isn't entirely necessary. Because of people like me who think this absolutely hysterical. Re: SWTOR "Remember, remember - Kakk says 'December.'" |

Maybe my skin's thicker, maybe I enjoy talking shit in video games, but I love general chat. When I read about GW2 not having some form of global, it really did turn me off. I don't play games with a dedicated group or guild, so I'm usually playing by myself, and it's awesome to have some company and banter while I'm online. Without either of those things, a dedicated group to play with and a lack of general chatting, it's going to feel pretty lonely if or when I decide to try this. "This is life! I would miss it. Unless there is a regional chat or something. Local chat is only usefull for talking to the person next to you that isn't in your team. Downside of local chat is that you don't know how far it reaches. There needs to be a global/regional chat next to it imo. For the ppl who don't like the occasional trolls or for ppl who roleplay, you can always turn those channels off. |

If you see no good or you see no bad in a game, chances are you are bias. |

Guess what? If there is no general chat, people will just be spamming other chat channels instead. Better to just have it and have the option to ignore it then have something important like a trade chat or lfg chat flooded by stupidity. |

I think it will be ok as long as there in Region chat. A world chat channel is not needed. Currently Playing Random shizzle!
Waiting on TERA, GW2, TSW |

I think that global chat is fine for those who use it. For those who do not use it, there should be an option to turn it off. For me, I never use it. Never have, probably never will. Anyone I want to talk to I use private chat. |
