Even the advertising for Tera is cheesy and low-grade. I see the ad on the side and it's basicually cut-outs floating around with text. LOL NA is so behind on game technology it's almost embarassing. Maybe because they spend too much time restricting themselves on things like, I dunno, fantasy and elin clothing styles like a bunch of morons maybe?

It's like a minecraft with vessle battleship fun and house building. You can dance everywhere, do all sorts of shit. And Ganking is fun. So much fun to be a pirate.

That game has caused so much b.s. and small-mindedness in the gaming communities here I aboslutely despise that blocked colon game. That's all they ever know and breath about. It's an old game in an era gone by. The ONLY reason why it got anything because it was one of the few games back during the dial-up years that was acessible to play besides EverQuest and one other lame game. Now look at it. It's fucked up and EME is trying to copy WoW's lame standards by dilluting Tera with their scary asian phobia and quick fix standards :)

Tera is not any of these little games you've been bottle-fed into playing fo years. If your open-minded and don't have a problem with characters then you'll end up playing more games that kick ass in the end. They have a ton of asian-themed style dressing throughout these games and korea isn't going to suddenly drop their games for you! :)

You'll be getting the scraps like e-tards because you always end up settling for less. Because you don't know what the hell type of game you have and you keep applying that stupid WoW to everything.

And if you don't like asian games then get up and get out! Hopefully another publisher will come out that isn't such a push-over like EME and stands on their product design instead of being scrubs.

Agreed about the PvE crowd.  But you are dead wrong about the hardcore PvPers.  Hardcore PvPers like their PvP to mix with their PvE.  They don't like it in nice neat compartments and separate just so they don't have to worry about being ganked.  And harcore PvPers also enjoy progression, accomplishment, and achievement.  

The casuals will PvP in GW2.  The hardcore achiever crowd will prefer TERA.

I hope both Tera and GW2 will have a good number of people in them, I also hope a good number of players will actually play both games... very unlikely though considering the posts here but hell one can always hope.

Tera is just like every other korean MMO just with slightly improved combat system.

I find it so hilarious that these are the exact threads with the exact same content people were saying the latter half of last year when we were debating the merits of SWTOR.  Look how that game turned out.  When will people realize that these niche titles with same old boring gameplay in a different settings wont work.

I'm amazed at how many replies this post got within the past few days.

TERA will most likely never be the sleeper hit of 2012 as this claims, if anything it's only appealing to very few people from what I'm seeing, putting them in a minority. 

Not sure why they can't see it, but just like games such as Age of Conan, DC Universe, Aion, etc. online that had a decent subscriber base that started to slowly die to the point where they decided it would be best to have the f2p option available. 

This game is probably going to go that same route as well over some amount of time, I mean the game didn't even do that well in Korea or Japan so why would it do well in the US/EU? 

The game is fine imo though as I've stated before, it's the same MMO experience with some nice action combat and a new world to explore.

Yet sadly, these games nowadays tend to just go free to play as there are so many of them out there and it just get's old to so many MMO players that we just want something entirely new that would be different so much, that it would be actually worth the monthly sub.

 A lot of people will play both (like myself) but still there are a lot of people that live on delusions. And don't even know what territorial control or what a sandbox game is. They are gonna be really disappointed in May.
But i find it funny so it's alright.
 
Hopefully they will at least learn what their game of choice is about so they don't come back here in june/july on the forum whining how disappointed they are.

TERA got great action combat in a MMO sense, but it is a terrible action game overall. 

 

Just because you can dodge a hit, doesn't make it great action combat, the attacks are extremely slow paced for an action combat game. You walk slow, attack slow, just because you have to aim, doesn't automatically make it fun.

The pacing of the game is terrible, just another point 1 to point 2 fetch quest. Story? What story? If anyone has actualloy read the quest text, the writing is terrible.

Unless you can participate in the political system and ignore questline from level 10 (I can tolerate the starting island), I'm not willing to grind 50 levels just so I can have fun. It will even be alright if it is viable to just join a guild and hunt BAM to level up, but then, if every guild is doing that, it will probably be queues.

Also the playerbase is terrible, there are constant kill steal even for the starting levels, they just come in and start killing your target,or maybe the lag is just that bad and they can't see when others are exactly at.

The community is terrible, not just the killstealing, have anyone seen the seen the chat channels? Constant insults and the whole pedo with the Elin, namecalling. I can ignore, but constantly pausing to interface and ignore, makes the already apparent pacing issues even more apparent.

 

While the combat is borderline fun, it reminded me how terrible the traditional level and questing structure is.

F2P or B2P in a one and a half year.

What I meant is that there are more trolls in that game than your average MMO, of all the recent MMO, from AION onwards, RIFT, SWTOR, etc. Never have I seen this many troll in the starting area

As for strategy, like what? Run towards healer when you need some heals. Dodge attacks, dodge AoE that hits like half the room?

One thing that is entirely missing in this action game is that. Dashing, there are no proper mechanic that supports dashing. Sure some class have a dash skill, but when you push a mechanic and disguise it as a skill, you are opening that up as a potential balancing issue. All class in an action combat game should be able to dash, jump, dodge roll.

Maybe you are seeing me as dissing TERA, I don't think I am, while I don't think TERA will be MMO game of the year, it will certainly be the pioneer of better combat in future MMO.

Plus they really need to fix class balancing issues, Slayer in this game is way too powerful, and warrior is like a wimp with almost no plus warrior lacks a lot of mobility, and its attack range is much shorter than other classes, meaning for players will be harder to deal with lag and missing hits, leading to potential MP loss.

There's no doubt Tera *will* become F2P because all the gutting that's been done to it now. That in itself says a lot. Why does the publisher keep having to change the game until it's a complete different game? Because their trying to make it as close to a GENERIC western mmo as possible save for the grace of advertising it due to the combat and graphics that can be experienced on any console game anyway. What a trip!

 And a RED FLAG. In the F2P end they might re-install all the stuff they took out before the game even had a chance to launch as extra item fee crap in a last-leg attempt. Pets defiantly but don't know about the other things. By then all the interest in this game will have slid downhill. Other games will be coming out besides Tera anyway so it's stupid to assume that this is the only game that offers the best and only the best. Same happened to SWTOR.

I've played Original Tera and i'll tell you out-front that this game is meant for PVE, not PvP. Plus with happy happy EME and Frogster making this game as easy as pie and removing anything and everything for whiners this game won't go as far. Sure it's showing potential but when you have crappy publishers running it games can end up break or win. When was frogster any-good? Never! And EME is just a little WoW player kiss-up with Brian Knoxx who ran off from Aion Nscoft NA fail-branch to Tera and turning this game into a QQ me no liekie asian hugbox.

They both SUCK and haven't done crap to this game but making it as lame as possible and pulling out all the features and content for e-idiots and some old outdated FP group. Fact is Tera will never reach massive mmo numbers. Ever. Seriously you had a EME employee remove an in-game item because he didn't like it. But the other ones are still there that do the same, exact thing for different items.

And BHS is a smaller company that had troubles because of thievery from ahem, Lineage 3 which is now called "Tera". That's all that's going for BHS at this time is Tera. JP/KR Tera had problems because of end-game situation. People here think it won't happen but if Tera is slow in korea it's going to be even more slow here. Just a lot of bored players after running their 10th dungeon maxed out and completing the same quests over and over again. There won't be much left to do once end-game hits. How long will it take for Queen of Argon 2 update to come out in Korea? Or future updates? And your lovely publishers are pulling out everything they get in an update anyway so in the end your getting less things for the same priced game in Korea.

It's really going to have to take a developer that publishers their own game directly that will revolutionize this market, but their going to have to have balls, creativity and uniqueness, and not fall into the WoW trap like the others with lots of features. Something similar to EVE Online/GW2 with open-story interaction, similar to sandbox elements like ArcheAge and Minecraft, similar fighting system on any action game with air, water, and land combat, drop-dead gorgeous graphics and sexyness variety and a darn good mind-blowing story.

EME/Frogster have already implemented chrono-scrolls in this game so tera's pseudo economy is going to hell anyway. Plus all the bots and glitches that shows up in the game.

Your going to have more bots on this game then anything else. Just a warning. They will be here and EME's weak blockings is going to have very little to no impact on them. Also know that TERA is blocked from the rest of the world.

What BHS should have done was what Gravity did and open up an international gaming community from their website. That's one of the main and strong reasons why Ragnarok Online was so sucessful. And NO ASIAN MMO PHOBIAS PUBLISHERS.

The JP/KR communities are far more mature and much nicer than here. Hell, elin is absolutely fine and she has pompoms, pretty stockings and everything. Absolutely moe, adorable and cute and no one cares. No one goes around harassing people senseless because of EME's little gallop they did to this game.

Got a feeling Karma is going to come back and bite EME in the behind with the mass amount of bot-invasion and just poor community they've allowed to fester in the game anyway. You just don't go around trashing JP/KR's mascot and players like garbage.

What is happening is that the uniqueness of this game is being stripped away. This game is 5 years in advance than your typical western mmo game on the market. People don't realize this(or don't want to admit because of some superiority complex) and unfortunately it's being jammed up into the game itself. Temporary/quick sell fixes now, long-time missing content/bugs down the road.

People that don't like asian mmo's are still not going to like Tera, regardless. It's just pretty sad this game is being turned upside-down for those who are 'forcing' themselves to play because of the combat features. It's not the 18+ mature game anymore but the game for inexperienced people thinking their getting something completely brand new and exclusive to the market.

 

Just visit Tera back in a year or two and see if this hasn't changed. It'll start out good during launch (that is if EME doesn't screw anything up) then over some months it'll start to slide down. It's doubtal BHS can pump out content like Blizzard. Korean games take time to make and their not just about to go cheap on their game content for this fast-food mentallity over here.

Korea/Japan is getting the T-Bone Steak while NA is getting the cubed one thanks to publisher bottle-feeding.

Seriously people are having a hard-time already logging into the game simply because of the mass size amount and all the launcher bugs that are occuring. It's a high-graphic game that requires decent PC space and it takes up to hours or days to download the entire game.

 

No one talks about that part though. In all i'm glad other publishers are coming out with more korean games that'll give a variety to the marketplace and Tera not being the sole-survivor of them all.

For an E-Sport mmorpg first you need a combat that really take skill not randomly button pressing, equal gear, lot of classes for differen't combo, and you need the trinity system so you can have combos, if everyoen do the same damn thing there isn't much point in different classes. Even in LoL you have support, tank, ad, or ap carries. If you want e-sport in mmorpgs you need somethign along the line of Tera+GW2+like RO for all those classes and you have something there.

Also problem with mmorpg E-Sport is watching them, to be honest watching pvp on mmorpg is kinda werid, some time you really can't tell whats going on, idk maybe just recording i seen are bad but bacause you don't get over head view its harder to watch.

Because Tera CBT was pretty much free, they were literally giving out keys like candy so ofc your going to attract people just to troll the game.

Strategy as team work, listening to your team's for who ever is low and focus, know when to back off when you go in too deep. Learn to have some one lock down healers. Depending on the class comp you have to deal with things differently. If they are range heavy you want to rush them, but if they have a melee ball you want to pull back and let them over extend and cut off from their healer. Ofc if your not on some type of chat system its all random but any good pvp all be on some type of chat communicating.

Also all class do have a dodge of some sort, warrior, slayer, archer have a dodge. sorc/mystic have a teleport, priest have a jump back skill, lancer and zerker have block. And no slayer aren't too powerful, they just the most noob friendly class to play because you can spam skill and still hit and do dmg. The 2 other lance in my guild pretty much drops every class because they are good. and most people would say lancer sucks at 1v1.

Normally i would agree with anti censorship just because i like some thing to stay the way it is, but honestly with the way people are acting i can't stand both side. Been immature about it doesn't help your case at all fyi just make the other side look right. I wonder if peopel will ever understand that.
