When I start playing an MMO it's because I want to immerse myself in an online world and work towards developing a strong character with my friends. A fun MMO with a large world and many dynamic opportunities for advancement will occupy all of my gaming time. A good MMO will be stuck in my head during work and school and even when Id consider playing a console game. So if GW2 is the MMO I've been missing since vanilla WoW, then I'd rather spend $15/mo to improve the content vs. ordering takeout or saving that $15 to buy another game every 4 months because I've exhausted the content in the free MMO I'm playing. I'd rather spend my time playing a content filled MMO than an MMO and a single player game every few months. Free2play is for the unemployed or the kids who can't get a workers permit. He'll, even if you can't work the government will still give you $15 to play an MMO. Get a jerb!

Do a little bit of research and you will understand that first GW2 is not F2P it is B2P.  You actually have to buy the $60.00 box.  Secondly Anet is a AAA MMO development company nto some 2-bit Eastern bot filled cess pool that most F2P's are.  Thirdly GW2 is a full fledged MMO with all the bells and whistles that a Subscription based game would have.  Lastly the reason why Anet doesnt charge a sub is because they actually want to earn your business and will rely heavily on keeping players entertained enough to want to buy future expansion packs, which is where they will make their money in the long term.

Don't take the bait, not for this poor attempt to trolling

I'm curious what ArenaNet will do to provide the players with more content. Perhaps like Guild Wars, a campaign once a year, but the way Guild Wars 2 is structured, it doubt that. I guess through expansion packs and once in a while, a new zone/pvp map. I can't think of much more, then again, I'm not creative enough for that

Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.

Calm down, GW2 will have DLC's and/or expansions so there should be content to keep you occupied if you buy these. GW2 is also not a F2P title, it's B2P. Don't bash the game on these unfounded claims.

Unless for you "get a job" crowd, 50$ is considered nothing, or "free", for a 10.1000th time:

50$ is not free, so it is not free to play

Main MMO at the moment: Guild Wars 2
Waiting for: Pathfinder Online

If you want to spend more money on the game to support it then you can buy junk in the cash shop.

Does $15 a month guarantee all the good things you said in the OP? i havent seen that since WoW, and obviously you havent either that still believes a monthly sub = best game ever....GW2 is not free to play, you have to buy a box + expansions + decent cash shop which will give ANET enough income to update the game and give the player the best experience they can. Lately, all subscription based games have failed to deliver what most players want in order to stick with an mmo long term.

Also, "f2p" or in this case B2P like GW2 are not for the unemployed and whoever cant pay a sub. If you are smart you should realise that these days, developers of subscription based mmos are **** yer pocket and arse while brainwashing you to keep giving them money and they dont give you the game you deserve because they dont care about you. All these years paying for the same and you still dont see it? Sigh.

But theres people who like to pay monthly for the game they want and the game that deserves its money. Thats a game that hasnt existed since WoW became the king. After that, sadly, no other mmo have been ready enough to justify a sub. Maybe not even WoW anymore because theres nothing new to it, only raids and raids and tiers and rinse and repeat.  ON the other hand, theres also the player like me who dont support neither monthly subs and completely free to play with umbalanced cash shop.

You have to respect that not all people want subs, just as we respect that you and many otehrs prefer the monthly fee model....

I clearly see GW2 is not the game for you, so no need to come to GW2 forum sections to tell GW2 players that they are basement dwellers with no jobs because we decided to play a game with no sub. In regard to that comment, keep your pants down when posting on sub based mmo forums so they can reach you easier for your money.

Have fun and move on.

To busy playing GW2 to post much around here... *shrug*

4/13/12 6:05:57 AM#11

So you'd rather pay a subscription fee without any control over what they're going to be doing to improve the game than have them create expansions and DLC that you can choose to buy or not based on what actually interests you? If you prefer not having a choice over having a choice, then that's your prerogative.

Exactly. And it is going to charge $40-50 every 6 months on expansions. So its not free, its buy to play. It does work out slightly cheaper than a monthly sub though.

It just means that you will always have access to the content you already paid for. Its a much better system, its like being able to say to a subscription game 'Oh hey sorry, this update sucks, I am not going to pay for it'.

They have to justify every single expansion as being a worthwhile purchase, rather than just spoon feeding you crap and getting away with it.

expantion = new campain in GW 1 (EoTN exenemt)  so we can assume the same holds true to GW2

so what we will have is GW2 : Core (WvWvW, PVP) which will be free to all,  including expantions and changes.  everyone will get to use core to play the upgrades so long as they own 1 campain, they will get to play core. if they add new maps those new maps will be playable by eveyone. if they add new gametypes; everyone.  new modes. you guessed it

GW2:  Prof (might as well call it that as a placeholder) will be the PVE found  in this. there is nothing to say they wont give it upgrades or slide in new events and such including  dungons post release for free.  if they do  many of them will be free but not all. any dynamic events added will be free only instanced things may not be.

anything after will be its own PVE (with possible PVP side missions  like in factions) and each will probably be able to be bought seprate without previous perchase. and will grant access to core.

Folks, stop responding to trolls. 4 post count. Either an instigator or a paid forum poster to try to dissuade an excited playerbase.

Noted that this response is a response. But let this be the last response.

Responsibly yours,

Kakkzooka.

First off i apologize for the lack of page breaks. My ipad iOS displays a page break but it does not get transferred into the forum post - p,ease direct your angry posts towards stevie. Wow this forum is pretty active :) so many replies before I even checked back. 1) To those attacking my terminology: you're right, I should have said b2p. My point is that with more money comes more content (even if not all of it goes to paying devs) and I'd prefer more content than going to see a movie each month. Even if they sell the same amount of expansions as other games then they still aren't making the additional money from subs. 2) To those saying I should play other subs games. No, I never said subs = quality. Just because the game has subs doesn't mean the content is enjoyable and in some cases (wow and wow-wannabes) it means that the content gets changed negatively more quickly (eg handholding and balancing around the people who don't know how to dl add ons). Because of the downfall of these other sub games I am hoping that gw2 has the appropriate direction and entertaining content. If and only if that is the case then I want it to be a sub game to continue feeding that content. If not I hope the game fails, the devs are fired, and the next AAA company can hire the indie devs (or whoever) who actually understand and value the player base. I just see a dispaportionate influx of money during the first months and then the cessation of box sales leading to a slowing of content delivery. 3) To the people claiming choice over dlc. Are we really going to have an option to purchase the dlc? Im skeptical because every other game releases dlcs with either the best gear or the new areas that everyone participates in or queues in. PS: I resent the people who hate on the epic, although admittedly a little wet, Buttpuddle! I actually made an account here 5-6 years ago... before the time when you needed a certain ranking to even post on the forums (bring back the forum grind mmorpg.com!). Also, wtb a death penalty.
