It's just a ploy to keep subs open for investor relations.

Don't bite the hand that feeds you!

I thought that was common sense.

I find this bit of holier-than-thou arrogance hilarious coming from these guys, Jacklo, as a couple of months ago when people were complaining they hit level 50 and had nothing to do, and that Ilum was badly broken, it was their own fault for being greedy pigs and not stopping to smell the roses on the climb up. But now those that did take things slowly are just lesser gamers who deserve to be spat upon from the great meaningful height of level 50. Which is it guys?

It seems the management of this game has been haphazard and confused from day one, and does not seem to be getting any better as they continue to dig this game deeper into the ground.

The complaint thread on the official forum is 168 pages right now.  I urge any current subscriber who does not have a level 50 and is disappointed in being singled out due to playstyle to drop their sub today.  Between the dropped subs and the level of bad PR that Bioware will get over the next two days, maybe it will be enough for Bioware to see that we are just as valuable as other customers.

I say, lets all drop our subs for the month of May and send Bioware a clear message that just because some of us dont rush though the content or have 20 hours a week to play, we should be worth just as much since we pay just as much as the other subscribers.  You can resub if you still like the game but dropping the sub for a week or two in May would really help to send the message that all PAYING customers should be treated equally.

If you are on other game forums, please pass this message on.

If you haven't hit 50 by now then you're still levelling and probably enjoying the ride. Once you hit 50 the game becomes shallow. It's the 50's they want to give a free month because frankly there isn't much there to entertain them. If you haven't hit 50 yet on at least one character, then you don't really have all that much reason to complain in the first place.

While I can understand your feelings, you really should get over it. The first 50's took about 4 to 5 days to do it. If after 4 months you're still not there, then you're strolling along really casually en not minding paying the sub. What's your problem? If you think you're not getting your moneys worth then simply quit, if you don't, then stop complaining because other people have more spare time than you.

Bioware is doing something that is unheard of with this free month, and yet there are still people whining about it because they (inexpicably) couldn't focus enough to do something that can be done without much effort.

I would recommend you go play GW2, where achievement and progression mean nothing.

This will be my favorite post for a long time.  I am less of a player because I pay the exact same amount of money but play a bit less than others.  You have solved the whole issue!  Thank you very much for your insightful words of wisdom.  I will call Bioware and apologize now that you have made it clear I am less of a player and deserve less than others based on my playstyle.  Maybe later I can get lucky and they will give bonuses only to people who play Chiss and then I will be a more valuable player.

only really proves the adage that, any sentence that begins with, no offence, or, its not personal but.. is usually followed by a statement that is often both. says it all really.

So change to active sub get your free days added then cancel.

I have a 6 month sub (regretfully) which I canceled a month or more ago and I got the email saying I was entitled to the free 30 days. I suppose now I will log in to see if I got them, though I really couldn't care.

On another note, I have a second account (also subbed for 6 months and also canceled) which does not have a lvl 50 on it.  I got the account because I thought crafting would turn out to be more valuable than it is. Highest character is 38. Now, I do not have a lvl 50 on the account but I did plunk down my money for the 'digital deluxe' version (main account was the $150 boxed version regretfully) and I paid them for 6 months (still with a couple months left unused). Why in the hell would they NOT give such a scenario, at the very least  a 'thank you' item? Instead they essentially are saying  'You are slower than others at leveling, we're not concerned about you. We need to go stroke the folks we figure more likely to leave in the near future'.

I supported them by buying the game, paying my money for 6 months, and being a part of the community since day 2 of early access and I will get 'snubbed' for not having a level 50.

Let me end by saying, I am using the above as an example of the poor decisions made by SWTOR Customer Service. I really do not care about the account  above. I've played the game (on both accounts) for less than an hour in the last 2.5 weeks. I may log in this weekend, if I am severely bored but even that is unlikely. This game is gone ( and I am sincerely sorry it is) to me.

You don't get it do you?  Someone who subbed two weeks ago and hit 50, is being told they are more valuable than some of us who pre-ordered and have been subbed from the start.  If you don't have a problem with that - well that's good for you.  You have no right however to tell anyone who does find this insulting to just get over it.  Companies live and die over customer loyalty.  This is no way to treat your longterm customer base who actually played the game the way Bioware told us we should.

I actually have a level 47 Commando that I stopped playing a few weeks ago to reroll an Imperial Operative (level 19) and like others have said, apparently my money isn't as good since I "failed" to get a character to level 50.

I cancelled my account just now stating this was one of main reasons for me leaving and probably no chance now of encouraging me to come back, regardless what they do in the future.

Too many new MMO's coming out this year for me to bother with a firm that fails to understand their customer base this badly.

^^THIS^^

I am still loving the game and i am as dedicated as most lvl 50's.....i played 5 chars to 40+ now but my main is 48 now.

I realy feel f***** by these guys and canceling my sub ASAP this evening.......i love the only thing thats good about about this game (the f****** story) and i get played like this??? no way i pay'd since launch as much as everyone else has......i also have done the quests 5 times for every char......dont i deserve this?

anyways.......tonight i'll be letting my money talk for me as no company insults me like this while i pay for these services.

F*** that SH*T

So because I was taking it slow and enjoying the game I dont deserve a reward given to other players simply due to my chosen playstyle?  I should just let Bioware email all the level 50's and tell them how valuable and loyal they are and give them a free gift of play time and I should just be happy that I can pay the same amount as them and not enjoy the same benefits?

Its like Ford saying if you have a car thats 5 year old or less that has over 100k of miles on it, you get a free new engine but you other people who didnt drive your car enough get nothing.

I also find your post to be confusing, in the same paragraph you say "I can understand your feelings" and then you say "whats your problem".  How can you understand my feelings if you dont know what the problem is?

Its the age old end of leveling problem, what they have done does not solve it, but it not the end of the world for those below 50 either.

Been playing 4 weeks now and i have a lvl 27 marauder.have to say it beggars beleif what they have done..i,m not really bothered about the 30 days..its about being singled out has not important enough or that i matter has a subber to the game.have to say the moron who came up with this idea is popular atm.i do think that all players regardless of lvl who have been there from the start should benefit from this.i mean all those guys who go thru the story that they have created and take their time re being punished for playing the game has it should be played.

Giving 30 days free to players of only certain levels is really weird, I played for 2 months and will probably play more in the future but I dont have a sub right now to do it but it sure sounds like a good idea, just drop it and resubing a couple of days after the sub ran out is enought to give them the message.

I do feel for those that didn't get the game at launch and barely missed out.

This outrage has nothing to do with EA/BW it just rage against marketing. If CCP gave 1 month/ PLEX to all pod pilots with 20mil SP or more there would be just the same rage.

Sith: Time to rage!

I get this, I do, I have a 50, and I'm happy with the free month, but the first thing that struck me was the fact that my best friend who has 16 (yup, one for each advanced class, across 2 servers)  characters all in their 30s is not getting the same deal. He pre-ordered, has a CE, played from day 1 of early access, and usually plays more than I do.

How is that fair? He's not all that bothered right now, he's replaying D2 in advance of D3, but judging from the official forums and here, he's not alone in being a loyal customer who just got told he isn't one of their "most valued" players.

It's not a smart move, and I don't think they thought it through properly.

wouldn't bother me in the slightest.

you see, you never actually asked if i had a level 50. i don't. and i don't care if level 50s are getting a free month. so what? they deserve it. i'm finding it hard enough to keep my interest through the mid-40s and haven't logged in for weeks.

Thats where you and I are seeing this differently.  I like the game and was having a good time with my sub.  I'm not bored with it.  I could care less if some game I was bored with offered a free 30 day sub to all their players.  I would care if a game company treated one group of customers differently for no real reason.  Leveling faster or picking a faction should not decide who gets prises from the game company.  If it were a contest and you and I both competed to see who got the highest level that would be different.

I understand you are bored with the game and this issue does not really concern you since you would not play the free 30 days.  But do you honestly believe that game companies should be allowed to make distinctions between customers based on play style and not money paid?  What happens if this promotion is successful and other game companies start to reward players like me because I dont play too much and I dont consume a lot of server resources?  Is this the kind of trend you want to see in future games?

guy, i'm not telling you not to enjoy your game. you say you're enjoying it. that's great!

personally, i think you'll find they're not rewarding play style. they're attempting to maintain players so they don't get dead servers. they're trying to implement a large patch and they know people are leaving in droves, so they're attempting to hold onto them for the duration in hope the patch's changes will keep them playing.

your argument that the issue doesn't concern me could also apply to you, as you won't be getting the 30 days either, i take it? do i believe they should be allowed to make distinctions? certainly. i've always felt they should be more discerning. i think they should do what a lot of subscription-based industries do and offer subscription models with flexibility. it's why the gaming industry's sub model is dying - because they don't. if, say, they offered a "cheap rate" for those who played only a few hours a week, they might get more out of us, too. some of us might think 15 bucks is stupid for only 3 hours a week. they might think 5 bucks was fair.

so, yes, i think they should be allowed to be more flexible when they want. as i said, they're not just rewarding these 50s for being 50. they're trying to stop them leaving so that, in the end, YOU will reap the benefit of not having an empty server.

see?

nothing really to whinge about.

sounds a bit petty and childish to me.

Unfortunately speaking with your wallet is the only launguage EA/Bioware understands.

They really should have just given everyone who had a sub some free time.  But level 50's are the ones who are leaving in droves because there isn't much to do once reaching there so they obviously want to keep them.  What I found funny was the wording:

"As a thanks for being one of our most valued players, every active account with a Level 50 character as of April 12th, 2012 at 12:00PM CDT / 5:00PM GMT, will receive thirty (30) days of game time** in appreciation for your support and loyalty."

Sorry Talonsin.  You are not one of their most valued players :(

that's kind of ridiculous, too.

EVERY mmo when doing something like this ALWAYS says "most valued players". it's about as meaningful as a meme. it's called marketing. look it up. there isn't a country in existence which doesn't do that. my own retail company i work for continually sends out emails to its "most valued customers" but when those "most valued customers" come into my store, i don't value them. i want to shoot them in the face. they're rude, arrogant, demanding, and believe star trek-style transporter technology is at my fingertips but i'm just refusing to get what they want from the suppliers in the next two minutes out of spite. i hate them. with a passion.

there's not a single one of them i consider a valued customer.

but i still do my best to get what i can and when i can. because that's my job. and i also stretch my teeth into a semi-acceptable smile. which is often very difficult. but i do it. because that, too, is my job. to accept all the insults and snippy comments without biting back.

needless to say, i have much job satisfaction.

so, when someone is making an offer to a select group of customers, it's because they're trying to lure them back, or get them to stick around longer and squeeze more money from them. that's called business. look that up, too. it's in the dictionary. the word you were hoping could be applied to an mmo is called charity, and i've yet to see an mmo running under that fictitious idea.

at least, not for long.

by all means, vote with your wallet. it's your wallet. but how about growing up a little and looking at things with a little more of a critical eye. you might learn a few things about life, the universe and everything. clue: it's 42.

finally, anyone who endured the game long enough to get to 50 DOES deserve a free month. that showed a lot of support and loyalty to go that far in an mmo that really was far, far away from the concept of a good mmo.

give them credit for actually trying.

Are you directing this post at me?  Relax dude.  I don't need you to explain marketing to me.  I certainly don't need go get a dictionary to look up the word business or 'grow up'.  I am really happy you enjoy your job, that means a lot to me :D

I just found it funny, the use of the phrase 'most valued'.  I don't play the game currently and have relatively no opinion about it.

i just spent a few hours skating the hills around my house. i'm as relaxed as i'm gonna get. :P

Well, so long as you're happy huh?

You talk of a critical eye? Works both ways!

hey, if you look at my history, you'll see i'm not exactly one to defend swtor's content. i'm actually quite critical of what they do. but in this case, it's simply a business decision which, while it smacks of desperation, is one that's actually needed. people who are levelling aren't necessarily leaving. it's the 50s who are wandering off. they need to keep 50s, because otherwise you get empty servers. and empty servers means a dead game.

my issue is the bunch who jump in and figure this is an insult to them because they want free time, too. and why's that other guy getting free time? i mean, really. it's that level of entitlement and lack of actual understanding of WHY these decisions get made which kills games quicker than anything else. sure, the game's pretty half-assed and held together with gaffa tape, but that doesn't mean ea/bw aren't trying to hold it together anyway.

it's actually MORE amusing when you consider most games pander to the under-capped players by giving them faster levelling, or whatever makes things easier for them. the one time a game offers compensation to those who made it to the endgame and found nothing to do is the one time everyone gets all whiny.

Like i stated b4 i got plenty of lvls on 5 defferent chars and they play me like that for being an altoholic? WTF?

BTW: those lvl 50 players will not sub again for next month because the only sollution is more content for them......and they just dont have it.....face it.

Bad marketing man......bad :p

Unsubbed already......there are more games then stars in our universe......i'll find something else :p
