I'm not a fanboi, but I'm baffled that people insist that this game doesn't even suggest any interesting or unique features.  We must be reading different things.  Can you name another MMO RPG that is taking the approach ArenaNet has demonstrated with GW2?  I can't.

They're completely changing the idea of class archetypes in a way that has huge implications for group interaction in both PvE and PvP.  They are attempting to innovate on the quest and world even mechanics of modern day MMOs.  There is a different philosophy to content and level requirements that will potentially change the old ways of thinking of content and leveling as a linear process.  Standard approaches to class abilities and specializations are being reworked with their concepts of weapon sets.  3 faction PvP, a comprehensive stat tracking and ranking system.

I don't know everything about every game.  But I really have never heard of some of the things listed above until this game started releasing details.  I understand that there's a community of rabid fans surrounding this game, but I'm also starting to realize that there is a community of "haters" who aren't necessarily voicing their opinions about the game so much as they're trying to deflate the excitment of others.

So I'll ask again, which games have implemented (or are talking about implementing) some of these innovations?

Whatever it is, OP, I'm guessing from the above its not the community.

Really, the guy just wanted to know what was good about the game, and this is the reply he gets? Fat chance getting people to support the game when you guys drive potential players away like this.

I gave him a link to a Anet MMO Manifesto. If that doesn't get him excited at least he can understand why others are.

Didn't mean your response in particular, just the ones I quoted.

So why would he bring up another game in his question?

Man, this game doesn't look good but this other game looks fantastic. You don't find that baiting in any way?

Becouse it's a similar game that will be launched more or less at the same time?

saying Tera is similar to GW2 is like saying french fries are similar to a grapefruit...

Tera is a Korean grindfest game that is the best game I have ever SEEN(the visuals) that is its one major bonus. If you like Korean grind games then you will love it. If you enjoy games with story and gameplay then you will like GW2.

Relax, mate.

I didn't say "I am going to play this or that", for one simple reason: I don't know yet. Actually, I am more likely to end up playing GW2 than Tera, but this is not relevant anyway.

I will give you this analogy. One could say that Anthrax and Megadeth are extremelly different bands. They are different bands indeed, but they play a similar style... At least if you compare those bands to Justin Bieber or  Pavarotti.

There's very little information or even logical deductions taking place in these discussions.  Clearly, many people are either infatuated with the idea of GW2 and other people despise the former group because of said infatuation.

The fact of the matter is that the game looks promising.  Games are always idealized by the fan base, and other people will always project dissatisfaction onto those who appear to be happy (misery loves company).  There's so much crossfire in these posts it's absurd.

already relaxed hun.. I don't really care what you play but comparing these games is like comparing Minecraft to a Match 3 game... both are games.. both are casual.. both you can play online... this was my point.. more fleshed out. Tera and GW2 are both MMORPG's it ends there in their similarities.

In a nutshell:

I like GW2 because it does not heavily rely on only one cool feature. It simply questions everything that is not fun about wowish mmos and tries to find a solution by replacing those features with fresh and dynamic concepts.

But Tera also looks nice but I simply do not think it will be popular and thus player count mightl drops after the hype is over, because people tend to stick to the crowd.

Thank you ArenaNet and Bioware. Finally MMOG-Devs start to understand Konfuzius. Thx alot.

@Gordiflu

But that was sort of my point.  Don't be so quick to dismiss what I'm saying for an easier argument.  I was asserting that GW2 is expanding on these elements.  It's also worth noting that the games you've listed don't incorporate all of these elements.  If you consider that I was trying to demonstrate a reason why some people would be excited about what this game is offering, I think both of us are supporting that in what we said.

The Public Quests in WAR were/are far, far different than what GW2 is delivering.

War PQ's were not dynamic at all, Rift's rifts were a step further in the right direction, but it really does look like GW2 DE's are a further leap towards being dynamic.

I guess the refined question is how many gems have implemented ALL of these features? And Im not even going into the differences in the individual features from those games you mentioned.

Thanks for showcasing the fact that not many Devs have really ever tried to incorporate so many different aspects into one package.

It not about the features but the implementation of those features and how they worked in the game. Yes WAR had public quest, but did they affect the world like guild wars 2 will? Did it allow people to work together instead of against each other?

Introducing something is nice, but if you don't implement it properly it doesn't matter. That what made WoW great, it took features from the MMOs before it and implement them in a much better way to the point where you got some clueless people believing WoW started it first. Also PvE ranking and Stat tracking are not really features and all of those were done by halo i believe, yes it not a mmo, but it doesn't matter.

I highlighted up there the key word in my answer to your question.

As you can see, none of your innovations is actually an innovation. I asume and expect Anet to improve on what others have done in the past in these areas, but still the key word here was "innovation".
