I just went to the SWTOR forums to check on the status of update 1.2 and it seems they hosed it somehow, causing players to have to reinstall the entire game, as well as tons of new issues. I was waiting eagerly for this new update, but it seems they are releasing all the new changes little by little, for obvious reasons. Seems they cannot fix anything without breaking even more things. Sad...because Bioware used to be a good company....not sure what is going on with them now, but am staying away until the dust settles. I put my level 50 Sith Warrior Juggernaut on the shelf 2 weeks ago to take a break, and it seems I will be taking a longer break than expected. Lets hope Bioware gets its act together before they kill SWTOR. Fear the Alien, the Psyker, the Heretic, the moronic Steam Moderator. |

This is called the EA effect. Manny times seen, many times discused, never loved. Ea just ruins every company with their greedy hands. |

Also thinking of EA effect, downgrade of BW can be tracked to EA purchase. Also, their "stances" on what SWTOR should be start taking swings after EA purchased them. |

Guys nothing special about this in the MMO world, especially from a company who hasn't made a MMO before. As this is their first big update I would of been very surprised if it had gone smoothly. Never played a Bioware game before so don't know how good they were, but I must say I'm enjoying this one very much. As with any new released MMO it could use a lot more content in the future to keep my interest at the high levels, but getting there has been a blast! |

Before, BioWare used to be a company committed to making great games. Once they were bought by EA they became a subsidiary dedicated to making games people would pay for. EA is going to shove the good reputation of BioWare under the bus until they just ditch the brand and move on. EA's acquisition of BioWare bought them a few big-selling titles (SWTOR, ME3, and probably DA3) and removed a competitior from the market. In the end it's a win for them and a loss for us. /R.I.P. Ya, they had a hickup in the patch. Shouldn't be all that surprising considering they've managed to introduce a lot of glitches with every large patch. However, that issue is largely over with now that the patch is live. The legacy system works fairly well, and they are giving away 30 days free game time. Not saying this company is doing a superb job, but it's not as bad as some of the other stuff they did. In regards to the thread title: Bioware was a good company before they became EA. It's as simple as that. |

I don't remember such time at all. The good company during the Interplay years was Black Isle plus Brian Fargo. Overhyped and mediocre are the best words to describe every game made by Bioware since NWN. Don't blame EA. REALITY CHECK |

I'm confused as to why you're shocked about this? When EA bought Bioware they CLEARLY stated in their ShareHolder's phonecall meeting that the purchasing of Bioware was merely for their "Name", and that most of the development for any titles under the "Bioware" label would be outsourced.
Seriously, Bioware died the day EA bought them. The Theory of Conservative Conservation of Ignorant Stupidity: |

It's Bioware by name only, the good people are long gone. If it's not broken, you are not innovating. |

Originally posted by Torgrim Bioware has more WAR era Mythic staff than it does old school Bioware staff. The company was originally going to be called "Bioware Mythic" when EA aquired them for all titles, but droped the Mythic part because it was assosiated with failure. |

Oh look, a new bandwagon all the self proclaimed insiders can jump on. Bioware has done good and bad things all through it's existance. Problems with the patch were in fact minimal. That doesn't mean EA gets forgiven for being, well, EA but people should stop the unwarranted drama. "Any sufficiently advanced incompetence is indistinguishable from malice." ~Greys Law |

I dont think the original Bioware that you are reffering to obviously, has not much if almost anything at all to do with this game. I'm not sure if the original Bioware studio even exist anymore alongside these EA sub-"bioware" studios left and right. Not sure, but the name Bioware does not have such an impact anymore to me as it used to, basically because I dont feel like the Bioware I'm talking about exists anymore. |

You might not like Bioware titles for whatever personal reason, but NWN has one of the best worldbuilding toolsets around, Jade Empire was an interesting attempt to deliver an original title with something else than the usual medieval/Tolkien based fantasy cliche stuff, and Mass Effect and Dragon Age: Origins are considered among the best titles in their genre, and deservedly so.
Originally posted by Fadedbomb FIrst time I heard that they were gonna outsource most of the development, I can't recall EA people ever having said that. Any proof of that, or link to where they actually said that?
Only thing that I can see is that they had to get a whole bunch of other, new people to create all the games they had in their portfolio, like how there was a whole bunch of new people and Mythic people for their SWTOR department. But that's not what outsourcing is about, if you create a new department and hire a whole new bunch of new people for it and put devs from other places within the corporation on it. |

I personally haven't played a single BAD Bioware game and i wholly enjoyed my 2 months and then some in SWTOR, so to me it's always been a company that made enjoyable games and some of the best SPRPG's to date. Baldur's Gate series = greatest among RPG's Neverwinter Nights series = awesome MDK was lovely! KOTOR series was among the best Starwars games i ever played! and i totally cannot say Mass Effects sucked.. so only one that i haven't played is Jade Empire and from what i recall, i didn't hear alot of bad things about it either.
So where's all the hate coming from? The WoW-generation of dissatisfied kids who want things yesterday. Currently playing: FTB Ultimate Waiting for: Wildstar, ArcheAge, Class4. Dead and Buried: GW2, SWTOR, Darkfall, AO, AC2, Vanguard, CoH/V, EnB, EVE, Neocron, FE, EQ, EQ2, DAoC, FFXI, SWG, WoW, and billions of eastern junks! |
