Anyone knows what they have against TERA?. I just can't understand why all the hate.

Okay maybe it is not the best game but clearly it is not the worst. At this site they just take turns to defame it.

People do not like what they are not playing, and refuse to accept that other people may enjoy it. Also mob mentality, everyone jumps on the "next big thing" bandwagon and the "hate game xyz" bandwagon.

One man's trash is another man's treasure.

Hey, there's people who  call EVE a "terrible" game (hard to believe, I know) despite the obvious fact of its greatness.

All games have detractors, don't let one site's review get you down.

Nah it wont let me down - the problem is that is not just one review. If you follow their posts about this game they are all the same: biased and defamatory. I dislike if a site only praise and hype a game but still a certain distance must exists even if all articles are only opinions.

They are just being honest. It is the same cake with a different colored sprinkle.

The main thing that is going to kill this game is that it is being launched as a subscription game. If it were F2P it may have a chance. As it stands, it will be a flop.

Lol its definately not their cup of tea. I don't think they hate it, but some of them don't look like they will be playing it anytime soon.

There can be a lot of factors for the GB bashing. Part of it could be money, maybe regional or they just don't like it. One great place for TERA coverage, as well as other foriegn games, is steparu.com. You tend to get more info and less bias IMO. To me GB is more about advertising rather than giving player perspectives but that's my personal opinion.

I often wonder how TERA would have turned out had the BHS crew moved to EU or US when they defected from NC. To me nothing about the gameplay seems "eastern", only a sound effect or two and that loot drops around you (which I find refreshing actually). The art style is more high fantasy than western titles I guess but is a lot more imaginative and original, things I thought us westerners appreciate. Eh, oh well.

Just not worth my time anymore.

Eve is a great game, if a 'niche' one that doesnt have the broad appeal of various themepark offerings. Tera on the other hand, isnt really on the radar even.. i don't know, maybe it just isnt interesting enough? maybe Tera will be one of those sleeper hits that sneaks up on people, i don' t see it myself but anything is possible, maybe the problem is there are so many bigger names upcoming etc, GW2, maybe even TSW, sometimes games just slip through the 'media cracks' so to speak.

Not all of them hate it, specifically Gary and the guy from that link don't love it. But not all the staff.

@Phry

I definitely think TERA is that kind of a sleeper... depending on how EME reacts to it's first six months. I think there will be a large portion of the MMO community that passes TERA up initially waiting for GW2. just like WoW and swtor, an IP can sustain you for a few months at least until the "formula" is figured out and the sheen has worn off.

It's these lulls that people look toward other games out there to break up the monotony. How long the game stays relevant to them depends on how solid it is. TERA is a good, solid MMO with a lot of features and polish. It just so happens to release around the same time as, arguably, the second biggest MMO IP behind WoW.

As long as EME continues to progress the game without going f2p or altering large portions oftge game I think it will do great long term.

Just not worth my time anymore.

Gary Gannon was the one who really disliked it and coined the "Tera-ble" term.  Most of the others were much more forgiving.  But everyone had such a laugh when he came up with it that it's become a bit of a running gag.

I agree, howeve ri think if EME does thing right it will definialy hit the gamer community pretty hard 3 month or so after GW2 comes out. Going to assume GW2 comes out errr august-sept ish? By than Tera would have its new starting area, battleground revamp done, and probably Server vs Server. Than few month after GW2 comes out they might even have the new voice acting and cute scene in as well, and hopefully fix the pvp scaling. I'm hopeful becaue EME so far has been pretty responsive and productive with all our complains so i think the game will be able to patch out most of its issue by time GW2 is out for few month. Only thing really left is the quest which to me not big of an issue but we will see how EME works on that.

Frankly, some of the criticism on that site is more rational and better-spelt than some of what gets posted up around here. Like with any MMO, there's a difference between "Just not my cup of tea" and "GWAR!!! IT SUX!!!". A game's selling points aren't necessary a high priority for everyone. Tera's selling points (and lacklustre points) are easily enough to polarize opinions towards it, even without getting into conspiracy theories regarding sabatoge or guilds trying to keep their members from leaving, etc.

A Modest Proposal for MMORPGs:
That the means of progression would not be mutually exclusive from the means of enjoyment.

The hate for any MMO is common in this genre, especially from veteran players who long for the first feeling they had from their first MMO. Most of these "veteran MMO-players," want something new and innovating to spice up their MMO cravings and I can imagine these people are getting tired of seeing the same type of 'Linear-Questing" or "Game-play." I just see it as it is, many of the MMO players just getting bored of the over-all MMO genre itself.

Look at how old this fella in the video looks, he of course is tired of what hes been seeing from new MMOs being relased lately and I can't really blame him.  Many alike just want change, but want the same feeling they experienced ages ago. Kind of like what the Devs in the video talk about:        HERE       Basically that for some of them.. EQ (many others as well) was that game that started it all, which motivated them to reproduce that same feeling as best as they possbily can.

Also at the same-time, many players just can't be happy for a game, that may possibly be successful. Then fringe at the sight of anyone else having some sort of enjoyment from a title, they themselves can not enjoy and have fun with. It's really what you're looking for, one guys opinion won't change the fact for me; TERA is a game I will play and have fun doing so.

He should just make his own game, if hes tired of what he is seeing from MMOs lately or quit MMOs all together. Just sayin..

I'm not sure I understand why they hate it. I usually reall enjoy the GBTV crew, but every time they talk Tera, I get pissy. I actually stopped watching their shows because of it. They say that action combat just isn't enough for them. Well, what the hell. They have an entire show dedicated to a game where the ONLY "hook" is the story. A very status quo MMO is okay so long as they have a show about it? I'd argue that Tera is far more inventive and brings more to the table than TOR has.

Gary Gannon got to level 12 and decided he hated it. I'm sorry, but I just can't take the opinion of someone like that seriously. Level 12 is at best 1.5-2 hours of gameplay.

You have to sift through the posts on this site. They range from the Neaderthal  grunts to genius. The posters here are very good at what they do, but often disagree. They are a suspicious bunch for good reason, and demanding because Games are what they do. I usually won't buy a game if the knowledgable posters here raise legitimate concerns. But sometimes they are like an angry mob with torches and pitchforks. Wouldn't it be fun to lock all these posters in a room with PC's, a new game ,and loaded pistols? As for Tera, I need more info and am taking a wait and see. Which could easily get you shot here.

That article is very abrasive. It reads as an attack against people who like Tera by citing counterpoints as if all Tera fans are fanatics.  I don't pay attention to Gamebreaker very much cause I make my own decisions as to what games I like.

Thats true but GB so far has been going more towards "GWAR!!! IT SUX!!!" Call any game thats p2p on f2p quailty is already bias, ok so you don't like the game does it mean its f2p quality? I don't like SWTOR, and i know many others don't but you don't see any of us predictin SWTOR going f2p in few month. I mean if its not yoru cup of tea than ya sure, but the point they go is too far.

What make me not vavlue anything they say about Tera is these are the same guys that hyped SWTOR so much before release and defend it after release ( when people realised it had no mmo to it) Yet they give Tera like no chance at all? Like really? I mean they give SWTOR so much chance but none to Tera? Something just don't feel right here.

Honestly, I think the article was fairly gentle for what it was. So he didn't like the game, he's not alone in that assessment, and many people HAVE played the game by now. Now, if you take your fan-hats off for a second and look at the review objectively, it makes some very valid points. There are a lot of things to this game that aren't that different from MMOs that are already out there. Now before you all jump on that, you may also want to take note that this review was primarily on TERAs PvE.

They briefly mentioned PvP in the game, and it was very quickly concluded that this guy isn't much of a PvPer, especially Open World PvP. That's a decent chunk of the game they are not commenting on. However, from a PvE perspective, even fans of this game have admitted it's a bit lackluster. The BAMs are fun (and they don't deny this in the review), but the entire review basically comes down to a single question:

- Is the action combat enough of a selling point to justify paying for this game?

For the reviewer the answer is no, and he has very valid reasons as to why. However, that doesn't mean that everyone is in the same boat as him. For players that either haven't played as many MMOs, or have been playing different types of MMOs, this will be much more appealing. Especially those that are fans of the old Lineage II. However, that won't be everyone.

Personally, after trying the games BETA up to lvl 30, I'm a little on the fence. I was told that there are some features that are missing, but are promised to be added later (which I'm sure is a promise everyone is familiar with for better or worse). I also tried a variety of classes, and the slayer was by far the most fun, and best utilized the combat system (with the possible exception of the warrior). Most of the other classes (especially the non-melee classes) didn't seem to really utilize the combat system as effectively, and as a result weren't as enjoyable (in my opinion).

Atm I'm reserving my final decision on the game for after I try open beta, and see if I still feel the same way or not.
