Update #11: In the final stretch....
Update #11: In the final stretch....
Posted about 1 hour ago
I have received many a question about details of the game and this video will help shed a bit more light. We will communicate all of the remaining points of our vision shortly after we start production next week and after we have spent more time on the forums. We want to get fan feedback on a few more items before we solidify our final vision document. I did want to give some detail on what the definition of a party based game was since there seems to be some confusion. In specific terms you will be creating and customizing four Rangers at the start of the game and typically you would give each of them different skills to create experts in certain fields. Skills in Wasteland range from lock-picking to bomb disarming to even toaster repair. This creates the dynamic of having players taking very different approaches to exploring the world. In addition there will be three slots for non-player characters to join the party. They will be similar in most respects to a player created member except you will not have 100% control over them. They will have quirks that could range from momentary indecision with them not firing their weapons at an opportune time, to being trigger happy and wasting ammo or even stealing from your characters. This opens up a wide range of possibilities on which NPCs you decide to have join your ranks. And while we have brought Obsidian into the mix, I think it is important to note that this is my baby, and I will be producing it and managing the programming here at inXile. There seemed to be some confusion on whether it will be a joint production, but the main facets of our involvement are with the use of their tools for asset integration and the design talents of Chris Avellone. Part of the charm and variety of Wasteland 1 came from the way different designers would approach their areas, and I wanted the same dynamic again. Only this time we have added the brains of Chris into the mix, and I am betting he will add ideas to Wasteland 2 that would have never been in the game otherwise. Due to popular demand, we have added a backer only T-shirt to the rewards. Here is a preview of what the shirt will look like. ![]() I hope you find the video useful. We are now in the final stretch....

(Some Previous Tiers that were sold out have been added some more slots) |

Update #13: Less than 40 hours left...We have less than 40 hours before our Kickstarter campaign ends, and what an incredible last month it has been. I am very anxious to start diverting all of my energies to production of the game itself. I am constantly asked about other projects I might consider, but for now it is Wasteland, Wasteland, Wasteland. I hope you all had a chance to get a glimpse of the latest concept art from Andrée Wallin. Anyone who played the first Wasteland remembers the first time they ran into the Scorpitron, and this seemed the perfect enemy to prep up for the sequel. Scorpitron 2.0 is much more lethal than its predecessor.
Also we have spent some time thinking about and asking fans what we could put into the $30 tier to make it more interesting and to not disrupt what has already been offered. I think we have come up with an interesting list that may persuade a few people to upgrade. Based on your top requests and a forum poll we now offer the following as part of the $30 tier:
Of course, all backers who are in at higher levels will also get all of these added items too. Also we will have a live streaming party on Monday night (16th) from 10pm-12am EDT to celebrate the green light of production on the game. Our Kickstarter does not close until 5am the next morning, but we wanted to get some of our friends and family together to celebrate this little bit of history and share it with you. On attendance will be Nolan Bushnell the founder of Atari, Chris Avellone and a few other surprise guests. We will be answering questions received through live chat on the TwitchTV stream as well as from Facebook fans. I will tweet the URL Monday afternoon as well as post it here on Kickstarter. Thanks again for all the support and faith.... Brian Fargo http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/inxile/wasteland-2/posts |

We have officially hit 3 million combined with Paypal donations thanks to all forum posters at MMORPG.com who pledged and help bring this game to full fruiton and its potential. We made the 3 million milestone that means a mod kit for creating your own Wasteland adventures and ideas will be developed after the game is released , I would imagine just like Bethesda released the GECK mod kits for Fallout 3 and NV. Once again thanks to you all!!!!!!
Will be posting probably a final Kickstarter update , they also mentioned new artwork , and a video . I'll post when I get on later , I wanted to ride thru the night to make sure they made the 3 mil mark :D.
(edit) 1 hr left to pledge for any last minute people that have been sitting on the fence! |

I didn't think it would tip $3M but I am glad it did a mod kit is really important for games like this. Although I do understand that doing one well is much harder than most people realize. |

Great - now just hope they will make good game :)
I seriously dig for game that is similar to F1 & F2 (not played W1 unfortunetally) as F3 while overall not bad game it was not true successor for me persoanlly as it was too diffrent kind of game than original Fallouts and don't even get me started on F:T (dislike it). |

Originally posted by fenistil Well Wasteland 2 will be turned based. However Wasteland was more like bard's tale than Fallout in original gameplay. I mean it had EGA graphics.
I suspect they will go with an isometric view and in that regard it may be more similar to F1&F2 than the original wasteland which was an overhead travel map and then a combat screen with groups of enemies at various distances (like Bard's Tale, Wizardry, Might and Magic etc.) in a text based interface with some animated picture for flavor. |

Update #14: And it begins...
Posted about 5 hours ago
We did it! Thanks to each and every one of you, we have completed our incredibly successful Kickstarter campaign. It has been an amazing ride and one of the most memorable achievements I’ve ever had. Being able to interact with you all on such a personal level has been amazing. I can’t imagine going back to making games any other way. With Double Fine’s success, the world was watching to see if that was an anomaly or if this fan-funded approach could be a viable means of changing the world of video games. Together, we’ve proved that fan-funding is here to stay and we can’t wait to see where you take it next. We are fully committed to doing whatever we can to keep this movement alive and strong. Before we move on to what’s next, some quick housekeeping: We’ve received messages from some backers saying there were issues when Amazon tried to apply the payment. Kickstarter said they would contact you if this was the case. You can also check to make sure it worked correctly by logging into Kickstarter. They give 7 days to correct your payments, so please check it soon. After that grace-period, your pledge and reward is cancelled, and nobody wants that to happen! Now on to the fun stuff… If your tier contained any rewards where we need to gather your information fo use in the game, we will soon be doing so through Kickstarter. Keep on the lookout for this notification. There is no need to update your shipping address yet as we will collect it when we get closer to the release of the game next year. We have opened up a store at http://wasteland.inxile-entertainment.com/store. We currently have the digital copy available for $20, and we will leave that preorder up during production. If you have friends that missed out on the Kickstarter but still want a copy of the game, they can go there and still get it cheaper than after it is released. Also, if you forgot to add $15 for international shipping on physical rewards, we have added a PayPal option to do so in the store. In the near future, we will open a backer-only store with some great exclusive items that won’t be available to the general public. So, now we get started on the game! We are in full production mode for the next 18 months. Expect to see many updates as we start to shape the experience that you’ve helped create. If you want to stay in the loop in between our Kickstarter updates, head to our blog and forums at http://wasteland.inxile-entertainment.com/. We will be spending a lot of time interacting with all of you there. |

You found us! Please bookmark this page for future reference. Since we have some backers who supported us through Kickstarter and others through PayPal, we’ve decided to use this space for all new updates related to Wasteland 2. We will still send out reminders through Kickstarter when we post important updates, but check back often for development information and to give your fan feedback. Now that we’re funded, you’re probably wondering what happens for the next 18 months. We’ve been hard at work preparing our core design principles vision document. This document contains a solid overview of the important elements from which we will be crafting the detailed game design document. Before we started on the vision document, we spent a lot of time on our forums reading what elements you feel are important and what systems and features you’re not too fond of. The vision document will be available on our Wasteland portal in the next few weeks. We already have an amazing community on our forums, and we know that it’s going to get better and better as we get further along in the game. If you haven’t done so already, head there and let us know what’s important to you. We’ve seen some wonderful suggestions that have already improved the vision of the game! We are still working with some backers on account reconciliation through Amazon, and we will have a final list of all backers and reward tiers tomorrow. Very soon we will prepare the questionnaires that correspond to your reward tier. Here you will be able to give us all relevant information on your shirt size, NPC characters name, what package you want or any other applicable bits relating to the reward you selected. Any information relating to in-game rewards (i.e. Statues, weapon names, shrines) we will use when setting our production specifications, so please try to send it back relatively soon. We’ll set a deadline on it, but you’ll have a few weeks to reply. Once we have that information back, we will also set up a backer database on our site. You will be able to login with the user information you presented to Kickstarter or PayPal and can manage your reward tier here. If you move in the future, just stop by and update your address. If you’d prefer to be contacted at a different email, modify that in our database. If you accidentally selected the wrong reward, you will have the opportunity to change it. If you wanted a higher tier, but didn’t have the funds to secure it during the campaign, you will be able to upgrade your tier in a backer-only store. We are not changing any of the tier limits, so sold out tiers are unavailable as upgrades. Thank you for using the backer database as it will help things run smoother during the coming months of development, and we look forward to hearing your feedback on our vision document! |
