I think it's just a matter of being critical. I do not like this game BECAUSE - and then present some comparisons, even if it is just personal preference. The most important thing to remember is that you could be one of the mis-informed. I'll use the secret world as an example. I do not like the dungeon aspect of the game, I do not feel they are doing their class system justice by using tank/heals/dps in dungeons while boasting a classless system. I like this game because I think I will enjoy - again, present some points to discuss beyond 'Crafting is cool'. A valid reply could simply be - "I enjoy this crafting because - it gives me good items / it has an interesting material gathering system / it is a nice break from the breakneck speed of the game." Simply saying 'it is cool / lame' is a statement with zero substance. I'll use the secret world again because it's very convenient XD. I love the fact that they are putting in puzzles which require actual research, thinking and puzzle solving. I've always felt that MMOs could tap into a very VERY rich world of tabletop / GM mechanics which could be worked into the genre. This idea is still new and probably needs a lot of work but I would like to see this kind of stuff in future MMOs, but damn it's exciting to see people shun the status quo. Play for fun. Play to win. Play for perfection. Play with friends. Play in another world. Why do you play? |

its fairly typical of the media to attack smaller people/companies that cannot defend themselves rather than the big boys. thankgod for media watchdogs, really need one for the mmo industry, all these sites are corrupt. |

Originally posted by bishbosh Not sure if this has been mentioned in the replies. Yet it is customary, when making a negative critisism about something to point out the faults that brought to this negative critisism so it can then be addressed or improved. Let me make an example, you see a player fighting in a a battleground, or arena or even a raid, or not even an MMO, you see a baseball player or football player that by their actions gets a great score, killing alone 5 other player or hiting homeruns or being nimble and avoiding to be stoped by others.
Saying "This player is awesome" implies that you are giving positive critique to what they actually just did and the way they did it. There is really not much else that is required to be said. Saying why is optional. If you say "this player sucks", it is customery to say why, for instance, He did not use X skill when Y situation happened so he lost, or he went left when it was obvious he should have gone right, or he missed to hit the ball because he hdid not hold the baseball bat properly. So there is always something required to be said to justify the reasons which made you feel they "sucked"... this way they can learn from it correct it and not "suck" next time, or in the case of a game after a series of patches. The base principle here is that, no one is perfect, everyone makes mistakes, even Devs creating Games, but everyone should have the opportunity to correct their mistakes. A saying goes: It is ok to make mistakes as long as we learn from them, but often we learn from them by others pointing out the reasons. Saying "this game sucks" is similar as saying "you made a mistake", but when you do not say what the mistake was, then how can we expect the person to correct it? Think about it, if your teacher at school handed you your homework with just the grade and without telling you where your mistakes were, how are you going to learn and improve? So the teacher says, "your homework sucks" but they also tell you why. Same applies here too. "This game sucks, because ... " |

Originally posted by Adalwulff This didn't really happen that much prior to some of the cash shop leaks. Before that it was almost universal knowledge on these forums that if you played GW2 long enough you would p*ss beer and sh*it rainbows. Alot of it has to do with how some (not all or even most) of the more hardcore GW2 fans go to other games forums, especially SWTOR prior to release and TERA now and crap all over those games. It brings those games fanbois on over to crap on GW2 as "revenge." Though why someone would need revenge in a game forum, I have no idea. But anyone that couldn't see this coming...I don't really know what to say to them. |
