Originally posted by nikki9786 It sounds like GW2 just isnt for you. Can I make some suggestions of other games you may enjoy?
SWTOR's is a brand new game that many enjoy..........though you will only be able to use 1 weapon through your entire career. Tera is another very popular game you might have heard of.........you again only get 1 weapon your entire game career. I know The Secret world has a very flexible weapon system, maybe this would suit you.
I'm honestly shocked that trollish threads like this exist when SWTOR's stick you with a particular light saber for the rest of your characters life.
Anyway's I hope you find a game that you enjoy since GW2 won't work for you. Cheers! |

ArenaNet has already stated they have a love for eSports, with many of them fans of the MOBA genre. In games like League of Legends you only get 4 skills, but it's the way you utilise those skills that sets you apart from another player. The amount of weapon choices and the combinations available is quite large actually, so a thief who has a dagger in his main hand and pistol in his offhand will play differrently to a thief who has a pistol in his mainhand and a dagger in his offhand.
Not sure what people are complaining about. Personally, I prefer having 5 weapon skills and 5 utility skills opposed to having 3 bars of hotkeys to memorize. "The problem with quotes from the Internet is that it's almost impossible to validate their authenticity." - Abraham Lincoln |

Originally posted by Rednecksith I'd be willing to bet that if you want to only use dual pistols, you'd end up being better at using dual pistols than most other players. However, you probably wouldn't be as effective overall if you only used the pistols. So, it's not an "illusion" of freedom. You have the freedom to do what you want. Some choices (like in any free system) are just better than others.
I've played quite a few RPG style games over the years and have found that using only one weapon, no matter how good it is, tends to be a handicap. In almost all cases, it's good to have different weapons and skills to use to fit certain situations. |

@OP - you're seriously complaining about having choices? Makes me wonder what you would think about not having choices....or maybe you like that. |

Originally posted by Rednecksith It's not about "God forbid" anything. The game is designed a specific way. It appeals to some, to some it doesn't. If it doesn't appeal to you, don't play it. End of story. Nothing more to talk about. And FYI, you have more than 5 skills, the first 5 are dedicated to your weapon, the rest you can change. Exactly how this is a problem is beyond me, considering that in every single MMO out, you pretty much use the same 5 skills over and over and over and over again anyway with an occasion tap at utility skills in another bar. My mesmer will be Staff predominantly. He'll have a scepter for those cases when the group could use the support skills it comes with, but otherwise it's all about staff for me, and what I'll be using 90% of the time. Sounds just dandy to me. "Forums aren't for intelligent discussion; they're for blow-hards with unwavering opinions." |

Originally posted by GeezerGamer Just because you see people doing that, doesnt mean its the way the game plays... im sure you could 'get by' spamming 1 skill, but that will drastically prolong combat and youre only diservicing yourself by not switching it up and LEARNING your profession.
Most people are jumping into GW2 Demos and Betas with WoW or EQ as their main MMO experience. Also, Conventions are Noisy, Crowded and theres a lot going on around the people playing the demos, I think you can forgive them for not reading every single skills purpose or not knowing how a certain profession functions. They just want to use their 15 minutes to explore and play the game... "The problem with quotes from the Internet is that it's almost impossible to validate their authenticity." - Abraham Lincoln |

Well, yeah, so although its been said, it seems like you would more prefer a game like The Secret World with their way of doing skills "The Skill Wheel." Please watch to learn more: The Secret World (US) Dev Diary: Skill Wheel - YouTube Hope it helps if more to your liking... although i don't believe you can dual wield swords in this game.... @Rednecksith: That's what the trait system is for. I don't know what nonsense that guy before you was spouting, but you CAN specialize to a major extent. Even so, the downside of specialization rings truer in guild wars because there are going to be times where you'll feel the pain of the weakness to your specialization. I.E. You might be great with swords, but that's not going to help you kill the guy on the keep walls. So even if you are specialized you'll still have to mix things up from time to time. I think that's fine because honestly, because while you may be lacking in those moments you aren't specialized in, you'll be fantastic when the fights suit your spec. |

oh, and at the end, when you say "THis is innovation?".. that kinda makes you seem trollish, like you are looking for a fight. So, is it Innovation? It is how they set up their game, what do you want people to say? |

Looks like the GW2 fans got a little stumped on this thread. I do agree though, I'm only a fan of the bow and greatsword. However being a ranger will allow me to utilize them well with swapping, longbow at a range and slice them into pieces when they get close with greatsword. I can see that someone with a singular weapon preference would be angered by this, and in no way is it innovation, but regardless it will provide extremely interactive experience. Played-Everything |
