I want an in-game, forum nerd mini-pet that follows my character around and bitches loudly at every perceived shitty aspect of the game I'm playing. It should cost at least $35.00. It should also come pre-equipped with its own lightsaber crystal. Re: SWTOR "Remember, remember - Kakk says 'December.'" |

Nothing wrong with selling pets. You do not have to buy it. There is no law to say a dev has to give you everything for your sub. Plus, that is just ONE of the very few MMO that still charge a sub. Most are F2P anyway. |

GW2 has a cash shop and it won't sell only pets. OK it doesnt have a subscription, but you have to buy the game. |

If you're paying every month, regardless if what they develop with those funds, it should earn you access to all the fruits of your financing. With a cash shop, you only pay for what interests you. If that happens to be nothing, your wallet can stay closed. To me, there is a difference. |

Originally posted by Unlight However, the pet is optional. You do not have to have it. No one says the subs include everything. They charge extra for faction change, server change, web/mobile access to AH .. i do not see why shouldn't they charge for pets. They have the freedom to charge whatever they want for their work. You have the freedom to not buy the pet, and not play their game. Very fair system to me. |

Poodles. That would fix the genre. We need poodle pets that bark incessantly everytime you run by and trot over to your player housing and drop a deuce on your doorstep. With epic boss drop poodle gear options. Why dont they just listen to the playerbase! Sorry. I like cheese.

Originally posted by pierth I subscribe to RIFT and EQ2. I like them both, but it's like night to day. In RIFT I get the game for the sub. In EQ2 I get most of the game for the sub and enough that I'll buy a 3 month stint every once in a while, but it's not the same. LotRO was even worse while subbed even though they paid you game cash. |

I dont see an issue in this case. Pets..mounts...purely optional. No edge gained except "one-up on the Joneses" achievement (purely made-up..please don't try to obtain one). Beside this..whenever I do decide to check-in to WOW..like once every 6 months or so since last January 2011...I always seem to have another free pet in my mailbox. I know I must have done something to get them but since I have hardly played consistently(despite buying CATA) ..I cant remember why I received them.lol. |

Personally i think this is what is wrong with not only the genre, but gaming in general, we have gone from this:

People say "oh well it is just some silly pet you do not need to buy it". Ok what about he Dev or devs who was taken off developing content to make stupid pets? What about the fact that after they introduced this cash shop in Sept 2009 the rate of content delivered has come to a crawl?
Look at Cataclysm on launch. Then only 3 patches in 1 year with hardly any new content. Now you have to pay $60 for Mist of Pandaria, then Blizzard admits they plan on shifting even more devs off live content to expansions.
Pets and vanity crap make 100% perfect sense in a F2P or B2P game, but it is has no place at all in a P2P game. WTF am I giving you $15 for?? To pay the electric bill?? The saddest part is this game is the widely accepted standard for mmo's. This is what other devs look at when deciding how to structure their cash shops.
So 4.3 released in December and we are in April with MOP maybeeeeeeeeeeeeeee in August if not way way later. In the mean time they have done jack to the live servers, but found time to introduce a $25 mount, Bind on Equip companion pet that you can buy for money and sell for gold in the auction house, and now this. |

At least wow don't make me play for horde side with my alliance character unlike rift.Beside it is strange you complain about wow when rift sold spider mounts and even one year after launch rift has still one of the smallest worlds for an mmo. |

Since 2009, we have cata, and 3 content patch after CATA. Plus, there are always other games to play between content. |

Originally posted by Puremallace The same could be said about expansions, but since you're used to paying for them you have rationalized that there is some kind of difference between the two. filmoret: One thing I have never figured out is why the game devs hardly ever fix simple problems that arise. It is like they don't care about the pvp community. Nitth: What makes you so sure its a simple fix? filmoret: Because most of them are. Sometimes its just changing a number in a code string other times its creating a few variables. However none of them should take over a few hours of coding. |
