Seriously, the US President is NOT a socialist, he is a Union boss. Every thing he has done since he got into office has been an attempt to get a better contract, with more benefits for his union members, at the expense of the big bad company that has all the money. All you have to do to benefit with this guy is join his union and you will be set for life....or until his contract gets tossed out by the next dude or dudette that gets in there. 

Anyway, that aside, I agree, we should move back on topic here. I really hate talking pole-tics on an MMO forum.

Also VAT doesn't even come close to explain the price difference. It is also not the same for all European countries.

I'm referring to the Euro "Zone". Yes many countries comprise Western Europe and the majority of those countries are going bankrupt because of whatever degree of social economic policies they practice with maybe the exception of Germany and it's economy is by no means healthly.

Funny enough Germany is a country run by socialists. And its economy is a lot healthier then the US economy. Just compare national debt lol. While some of the countries in trouble regurarly are governed by rightwing politicians. But then their political orientation also has nothing at all to do with their problems. The origin of these problems are still your investment banks fuckups with their scam mortgage packages. This is where the whole world invested in.

If the US was checked against the same rules by those American rating agencies (which are hired by American investment banks), they would've lost their triple A status years ago. If only for the ridiculous high national debt.

Before you start judging other countries you might want to first learn to solve your own internal problems. It is just sad that some certain American nonprofit organisations now have to stay in the US because so many ppl can't even afford simple healthcare. It is simple economics , a healthy population costs less on the long run. As long as you fail at that , dont try to point at 'socialist' countries for being social. It simply makes sense from a business perspective to do that. Just not always in the eyes of investment companies.

Might want to check Scandanavian countries too. In your eyes their governments are also socialists. Check the peoples life expectancy, happiness and economy of those countries. There is a reason why they always score high and poverty is almost non existant.

I'm out of this thread. It still amazes me how Americans can be so incredibly uninformed about other countries while not realising it.

Do people forget they can buy it at retailers? i live in poland and bought GW2 for the same price I would pay for SWTOR. From what I know in UK you can buy it for 40 quids.

But the government buying up so much corporate debt that the USA keeps hitting its debt ceiling and being on the verge of default(like those EU countries) is fine? Its exactly the same. Current USA public debt is $15.589 TRILLION

VAT has nothing to do with this. The UK price for the standard edition from ANet is £49.99 inc VAT = $79.28. In the USA they pay $60 inc taxes

Also, play.com are offering the exact same version with the same benefits for £39.99 inc VAT = $63.42 which is a fair price. 

If you buy direct from ANet you are getting ripped off.

Ask yourself when the last time you paid for a MMO worth the box price. I would say since 2002 there hasn't been one worthy of the initial cost. Don't see why people wouldn't be skeptical about this game either. We know nothing about what we will get at launch except for what they are telling us, however, most MMOs are nothing what we where promised when they launch.

Let people be causious they have every right to be given the scams the last few years in the gaming industry.

Oh come on, now we are changing the goalposts.  None of the countries that we are talking about here (i.e. industrialized countries) are Socialist.  None of them own the means of production.  They are all capitalist to varying degrees.  Some have more government control/regulation than others but they are definitely not Socialist.  Heck the only major country that is Socialist that I can think of is China, and even they are allowing for much more entrepreneurial control.  Venezuela and Cuba aren't really "major" players in anything really though they actually have Socialistic systems in place.  

Just a few point on the politics (As an American):

1. Obama is not a Muslim and is actively trying to reform the government.

2. The Democratic Party does have socialist influences - for example, unions are a form of socialism and their principals were founded during the early industrial age by socialist movements

3. Obama still supports a capitalist society - albeit one more equitable. A system without corporate welfare is technically more free market than the crony capitalist sysetm currently practiced today.

4. Europe is not socialist, but has a generous welfare state. There are still international corporations and private property. As I understand it, a liberal in European terms is not the same as an American liberal.

5. Germany's economy is fine and far healthier than other European states. This is largely due to their ordoliberal policies and the fact that I only buy German beer, thereby boosting their national profits. ( I love Spaten, Ayinger and Weihenstephaner!)

To the points at hand

1. Buy only what you feel comfortable buying. If you don't feel ready to buy the game, without a release schedule, then don't.

2. The Collector's Edition includes more than just digital items - while the price is higher, I am happy to support ArenaNet.

3. I forgot what else I was going to say, so drink German beer!

Yeah the price was rather extortionate. At least it makes you stop and consider the worth of a pre-purchase straight from ANet. I've skipped the last few MMO releases so I thought I'd go ahead this time round.
