I said it before, and I'll say it again. The GW model is not the FREE thing you think it is. GW1 came out with a new box about every 6 months for the first couple of years. Each box came at the same relative cost as the base game did. With that in mind, you can expect a new box (content update) about every 6 months at a cost to you of around $60....or $10 a month. You dont get regular content updates in game like you do in a P2P MMO, all content updates come in the boxes you have to buy down the road. So please, lets not question others intelligence levels when you yourself fail to look past the initial box itself.

This is completely untrue. GW 1 content is updated on a weekly basis. There are regular content updates in game.

Should I go break out the dates on the boxes, thier costs, and what they contained for everyone here...just so they dont have to go look it up themselves. You may indeed have content updates NOW, but you didnt when it first came out. You had fixes yes, patches with fixes in them, but the content updates always came in boxes.

Guild Wars 1 DID have content updates free. Expansions you had to pay for

I'm aware of the expansions. I've played the game since release. Your statement was misleading in that it implied that there was no content updating but for the expansions. That is patently false.

Uh huh, so which new zone was added in GW1 in a patch, content update patch? I played GW1 for 3 years and for the life of me I can't remember a single new zone that was ever added to the game outside an expansion box. Please, feel free to enlighten me here.

not to mention all other games (swtor for example) were $60 too.

I wont go as far as to say I'd pay $100 of jump for any game. I'm sorry but that's not healthy consumer awareness there. Don't throw your money blindly at companies you're just hurting yourself in the long run giving these gaming companies the benfit of the doubt like that.

I do agree that the pricing of the game is nothing too suprising to me. The base copy price seems right in line with the average cost of high-end titles to date. I'm not buying into the craze about that most educated consumers are not going to trip off it too much either.

Pricing has been on the rise for a good while now..

NOTE: If you purchased the Collectors Edition of Star Wars: The Old Republic you really should not be posting in this as a negative. Unless from lessons learned; you got suckered no less than anyone that will be purchasing GW2 CE.

PM before you report at least or you could just block.

Millions of gamers buying expensive console games and even PC games that have 10houres gameplay and now a pc game mmo that you can play for years to come cost 55 euros they always have something to complain about lol.

So six months for sub mmorpg (15/month) means 15*6=90 quid and if this sub mmorpg gets an expansion in these 6 months that means an extra 60 quid

so...150 quid versus 60 quid for an expansion of gw2

Your point is invalid sir...

why? Because even now GW1 is getting major updates, to name a few: War in Kryta, Winds of Change, Hearts of the north,..

I'm questioning your research level -_-

If you bought the game for $150.00 and you plan to play for 5+ years like most of us did. It is bargain of a lifetime. If you payed $150.00 for someone else's game + a subscription+ microtransactions you just been bamboozled for a lifetime. Get what I am saying ?  Learn it, live it....

Exactly. People dont care about the $60 US. That is the norm for brand new AAA games now. The problem is in the conversion, in the UK brand new AAA games are 35-40 pounds tops, which works out to about $60 US with VAT included.

After the initial uproar of UK / Euro players saying 'Fine I will just order it from the US instead and get it cheaper' they decided to region lock instead, screwing over anyone who travels with work or study.

Thats what the issue is, not the $60 US price. If US citizens were paying $80 dollars (the equivalent of £50) then noone would care and would just accept it because the game has no subscription. Its the second class citizen attitude that is pissing euro players off. And now travellers have been dragged into it due to the region locking response.

Price is the same as all other games. The funny thing is.... if the game was sold cheaper people would be saying they are doing that because they know they can't get as many sales if it were full price. They occasionally use that little line when trying to deflate the argument that the sub wasn't needed claiming GW2 wouldn't make it if they charged a sub. The fact is they can't please everyone.

Unfortunately your post gets drowned between posts of ppl who dont even seem to know about exchange rates and don't realise that the website charges the UK 33% more for the simple digital download.

OK, obviously I hit a batch of rabid fanbois here who refuse to see anything but what they wish to see. First 2.5 years of GW1, that is what I am talking about. Not the last 2.5 years. Let me say that again for those of you who have trouble with reading comprehension, FIRST 2.5 YEARS OF GW1.

As for your math there sir, according to you, since the math comes out to LESS than $15 a month that means absolutely nothing to you. Fine, an overall cost out of your pocket of $60 every 6 months for a GW model is just SOOOO much different than paying the normal $77.94 for lets say SWTOR every 6 months. Yes, its a whole $18 less, I see that....makes all the difference in the world doesn't it. Oh and thats US cost, 6 month sub in SWTOR is £46.14 or €65.94. So what does that do for you math now? Still look all warm and fuzzy to ya mate??

Well some of us get it, we just don't understand why it's coming as an uproar. If I wanted something I had to get from overseas I would expct to play a little more. If I had to buy a game at $80 due to this then so be it. Starting a thread for it now when it has been known seems silly. To each his own I guess.

If I wanted something that had to be SENT from overseas then I would expect to pay more too. Since it is a digital download there are no shipping costs whatsoever, no physical media costs, no box design and manufacture costs.  Its pure profiteering on ANets part, and they are ripping off EU players.

When people realised this and started saying they would just purchase it from USA, ANet region locked the game to protect their profits.

If I had to buy a game at $80 due to this then so be it. Starting a thread for it now when it has been known seems silly. To each his own I guess.

Thats the thing. We are used to a higher price (Im not from the UK btw, but pay in euros which is slightly cheaper). But not as steep as 33%. And there is no shipping with a digital download. Ppl are just comparing the game to other games they bought and realise how high the price is for the UK. No shipping costs and VAT doesn't come even close.

Guild Wars 2 DID have content updates free. Expansions you had to pay for

Uh huh, so which new zone was added in GW1 in a patch, content update patch? I played GW1 for 3 years and for the life of me I can't remember a single new zone that was ever added to the game outside an expansion box. Please, feel free to enlighten me here.

Sorrows Furnace. Expanded Shiverpeaks. Hard modes. Expanded quests.

A quick question, does the Anet price for European buyers include VAT? Or is VAT added on top of the listed price?

It makes a huge difference in who gets the blame for the price. If the VAT is the cause, this is a governmental problem, not an ANet problem.

Anyway, people all over the world pay different prices to do all sorts of things. But I do have some sympathies for the Europeans out there if this *is* just profiteering. I cannot help but think there must be some sort of underlying reason *glances at NCSoft* for this one....

$60 is £37.80 at the current exchange rate. Anet are charging £49.99. Thats why people are complaining.

Yes. the region locking was what renewed my interest in this discussion.

£50 is much more than i paid for Rift or Swtor, and is a rip off for the simple reason that all modern themepark mmos are shallow with no reason to play beyond the first month, a month with a lot more repetition than most good single player games. If on rare occasions (EVE) i want to play for longer i pay the next month's sub, fare enough, but they are asking for a lot more up front, for a game which i doubt will last longer than TERA or TSW will.

Waiting for a price drop, as I did for GW1. I just think subs are more reasonable. I like pay-as-you-go price models. No cash shop issues, and no expansions you will have to pay for to remain competative.
