Hey all, I just got finished playing the Silent Hill HD collection and I had forgotten how much I loved these games. I was hoping some of you had some suggestions for other games that scared the hell out of you or had some seriously terrifying atmosphere. For fun you should probably throw out a story where you fall out of your chair screaming or something :P PC or console, doesn't matter to me. Obviously I've played the Silent Hill games (the ones worth playing that is) and a few others I have already been through would be Amnesia and the Dead Space Series, as well as every Resident Evil. Thanks and I hope to hear some good stories! Playing: The Secret World, DCUO |

Looks like you've played the scariest games already but here are a few other suggestions:

The original FEAR was scary and there was an indie game a couple of years ago that literally had me looking over my shoulder, it was hand reaching out in front of you in pitch black scary. I can't remember what it was called but i'm sure someone will. Always keep your words soft and sweet, just in case you have to eat them. |

Condemned is probably the scariest game series I have played, it isn't like a monster filled horror game either, just drug addicts. It's the atmosphere they create while you play, you could walk into a room, see a bunch of mannaquins walk out, come back again later and they will be in a different position. It's just little things like that, plus they make the enemies come at you in ways that just freak me out for some reason. The entire time I played I had this overwhelming sense of dread because I was afraid the enemies would be in the next room. One of the few game series that did that. Amnesia is somewhat scary too, but scary in the sense that you are completely defenseless, and have to hide. |

I would vote Fear 1 and 2 as being a bit scary....Screw that little ghost/girl..she scared the hell out of me quite a few times. I once got my wife to play Fear on my gaming TV (55 inch HD) with the lights out. She swore that there was no way a game could scare her. So I walked out the room and waited like 10 minutes to come back in. I watched her from the other room and waited till she was walking in the game where it was pitch black then I jumped out and scared the crap out of her......Lets just say I spent the nite on the couch cause I scared her so bad...And got a PS3 controller hummed at my head...lol. |

Amnesia: The Dark Descent... One of the scariest games ever made by far.
Edit: Oops, I missed that you already played it... After this game any others will seem very tame.

Scratches Directors cut... Scary as Hell, atmospheric as hell- Its not scary in a Silent Hill/Resident Evil "actiony" way- Much more subtle and psycological. Wear Headphones and Play in the Dark- |

The Suffering had alot of scary moments. It was a pretty good game Too bad it was so buggy. The Suffering II: Ties that Bind was even worse for bugs and glitches. Tried: EQ2 - AC - EU - HZ - TR - MxO - TTO - WURM - SL - VG:SoH - PotBS - PS - AoC - WAR - DDO - SWTOR |

I thought Dead Space was pretty scary. Maybe it was the whole, stuck in space with creatures that killed you in vicious ways, thing. Dead Space 2 ruined the ambiance, but the first one did a good job of it. "Forums aren't for intelligent discussion; they're for blow-hards with unwavering opinions." |

Originally posted by gaeanprayer The first one was pretty good, I remember jumping a fair few times turning corners and opening bulkheads in that one, right from the get go it was a jumpy one. Have to agree that the 2nd was meh, i'd hoped for more of the same but it went more mainstream (for want of a better word). @the OP look up the term "survival horror" if you want some scary goodness. I'll put in a mention for good 'ol System Shock 2. FPS/RPG hybrid and gave a great feeling of isolation aboard a ship where everyone's dead (kind of) and there's a mad computer running it. Ammo was scarce also. "I have only two out of my company and 20 out of some other company. We need support, but it is almost suicide to try to get it here as we are swept by machine gun fire and a constant barrage is on us. I have no one on my left and only a few on my right. I will hold." Thief 3 might not be scary by default, but the shalebridge cradle mission probably tops them all. |

its not nearly the scariest game but nobody has mentioned it, you might want to give a look at cryostasis: sleep of reason..it should have some pretty scary moments in the game, and get you thinking about not freezing to death :D Our Crusade Against Modern Drama. OCAMD.blogspot.com |

Might sound odd but to me: EVE online. Nothing beats the rush you get when engaging a ship in a wormhole solo and suddenly his friends show up on scanner and you know that you have around 20 seconds to finish the encounter, get the loot and start getting the hell out of there. Or trying to dodge a 100 man close range gatecamp in a cov-ops in 0.0 .. Springing the perfect trap on some pirates. Etc, etc. I had several occasions of almost dropping off my chair from the sheer adrenaline rush; shaking so violently that I simply couldn't properly control my keyboard anymore. That were my scariest moments in my gaming career, ever.

Sweet! my favorite subject on games. I love horror games, I'll name you some that you haven't mentioned in your OP: 1 - Condemned is awesome! It doesn't have "monsters" but nonetheless it will give you frights. (I still remember on scare I got from the game when I was chasing a drug addict and couldn't find him anywhere, then I peaked near a wall that showed the stairs nearby and poof the drug addict jumps on you from the bottom. I played condemned long ago but I still remember this specific moment.) 2 - If you enjoyed amnesia the same company has made other games similar to it. 3 - Call of Cthulhu, great game. 4 - Cold Fear, I haven't finished it yet because I kinda find the camera view annoying but to put it simply the camera view is similar to the old resident evil where it's fixed and your on a boat with zombies. 5 - Clive Barker's Jericho, while it's not a "horror" it's a survival horror with an amazing story. You won't be dissapointed :) 6 - Metro 2033, you should have a decent pc before trying this. This game has amazing graphics and it will give you some frights. 7 - Alone in the dark is a classic. 8 - Necrovision, haven't tried it yet but I heard good things from it. 9 - Prey, it's not a bad game, not exactly a horror but it can give some frights. (Great game tough) That's what I can remember/find boxes in my cases to name you. |

Can someone help me? This title got me thinking about this game I saw in game informer. It was about 6-8 being tortured everyday in different ways by this robot. I think it was based on a short story. It had older graphics like sega. I can't think of the name and if anyone could help me out it would be much appreciated. Edit: found it, game based of the story, "I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream" Yes I played SWTOR. |
