Originally posted by waynejr2 This is basically the problem, plus the 30% of the community here who just bitch about anything. Did all these "Star Wars" Fans ever watch any of the movies or play any of the Old Republc games? I don't remember Han Solo dancing in a lot of cantinas or Annakin going out into the wilderness to build a house for himself. The game is exactly what any reasonable person should have expected - a Knights of the Old Republic game, with lots of multiplayer elments... oh yeah, and it's got tunnel shooter gameplay, which KOTR didn't have... so let's bitch about it because it's not X-Wing vs Tie Fighter. If they closed down your SWG, because it wasn't making enough money, you should have got your friends to play it. |

Originally posted by Elikal Now let's be completely honest Elikal, you were a fan of this game with only VERY minor gripes right up until you found out that the game would not launch with homosexual relationships to go along with the heterosexual ones that were announced. Then all the sudden you started bashing this game in almost every post and almost every thread you possibly could. SWG? Seriously, you are surprised that BioWare did not follow the SWG model and design a game to go straight down the toilet? SWG has been dead for years. Finally pulling the plug on life support last year was just the final straw. I actually am sorry that they did so. I am not a fan of SWG, though I did try it during each of it's three phases, and would not play it since SOE owned and ran it, but I know that it did have a few thousand (maybe) fans and I feel bad that they lost something they were having fun with. Trying to be nostalgic with this game though is idiocy since it was poorly designed / incomplete at release and almost completely redesigned twice after that, yet still had many of the same bugs five years after release that it had on release day. Idiocy. Oh and I love how you go back to the PROVEN false claims of the game having a $300 million budget. You of course know that was debunked a LONG time ago, but whatever supports your angst . . . right? "If half of what you tell me is a lie, how can I believe any of it?" |

I want an mmorpg where pvp matters, my enemies are not my race or class, and community matters. |

Originally posted by TROLL_HARD It's not bad - if you like video games and some of the instancing in WoW. But a lot of us felt SWG (pre screw up) was the real Star Wars game. Just had more to it, you could build your own bases with turrets for god's sakes, and use your crafted droids to fight off the enemy as well hehe. It was like Shadowbane but sci fi. Real star WARS feel.
My opinion. SWTOR lasted a week for me - I was bored silly. Looking forward to GW2 though :) and for Sci Fi - Definitely Dominus (ex Mythic employee 3 faction sci fi game with NO MIRRORED CLASSES). A real mmorpg.

Originally posted by grimfall The movies don't support gameplay because they are fast-paced, don't have much exposition, and follow a linear narrative. MMOs typically need a space you spend time, non-linear activities, and need the blanks filed in that the movies should not (details of life etc.) They didn't depict the guy who built anakin's house, but somebody built the damn thing, so if houses go up someone will have to build it. I always like the "It wasn't in the movies" argument. If you had to do it that way the game would last about 10 hours. The "I am the star of the galaxy 100% of the time" thing doesn't work either. You need contrasts that is why there are other characters in the movies besides the 4 or 5 main characters, to make them look special. Narcissism is fantastic. It's easy to kick the dead game, so good for you on that one. I played the game, at one time had four accounts running at once, all my friends played, and I was in a large guild. Guess that didn't work. Probably because the answer isn't as simple as you suggest. You want to throw away your money developing something stupid, go ahead. |

Kotor = good Bioware = good (or did) So Kotor + bioware + $200 million + 5 years + pre made engine + years of mmo data out there of what fails and what doesn't = shit game... uhh how? I will not play a game with a cash shop ever again. A dev job should be to make the game better not make me pay so it sucks less. |

Sure a lot of it has to do with the Star Wars IP. No doubt.
But lets not leave out the game itself had one of the hugest budgets of all time. Along with the fact its Bioware.
People expected more from such a huge budget. They expected more of Bioware, although Im not sure so many people expect as much from them as they once did. I know I dont.
So I figure it comes down to those three things. Dissapointed at the use of the Star Wars IP, dissapointed in a game with a budget the size of a small moon (pun intended), and dissapointed that Bioware, the once king of innovation some what failed to deliver.
With the fact it was Star Wars, and with such a huge budget to work with, Bioware put out a mediocre mmorpg that could easily have been made ten years ago and looked and felt about the same. The game isnt a fail in itself but with all things considered, the fact its not ten times better than it is, is a major fail across the board. |

I dont see why people are surprised or dissapointed, if you played bg2, da, me 1 2 3, kotar 1 2 you would know that Bioware develops its games through STORY and Voice overs with big production, why would you think they would change it and make a traditional mmo? They did exactly what I expected them to do with the exception of Space (thought tht would be a little more fleshed out) and I am enjoying it quite a bit. I am so sick of the old traditional mmo with bad quest lines , no story , no production , no cut scenes and that horrible wall of text |
