So I went there and logged in using my Google account. OP failed to mention there are several choices for logging in. Also, when I did it didn't post my real name, it posted the same name I have been using on that site for years, another thing the OP failed to mention. 

Anyway, seemed pretty painless to me.

I have no doubt at all that if I were acting in some way illegal or were in some way in danger I could be found no matter what name I use. That goes for people too who think using real names will make people think twice about being idiots. It won't. They can already be found. What does knowing their real name benefit you or me in a setting like this? It doesn't. The mods here and elsewhere can already track you  if they wish and contact your ISP if they felt they needed  them to take action. Your isp if necessary could contact the police if they wanted. This has been possible and in the past HAS been done as far back as the days of IRC. If anything it's even easier now for that information to be shared between those who need to know. I don't worry that random people know my real details. I personally do not feel it's any of your business it's that simple.

That doesn't sound as bad as stated then at all. For someone who doesn't have a facebook/twitter/google account it would be a pain if you felt you HAD to comment but it doesn't stop you reading the articles as far as I can see.

Not is it only completely illogical to post on a site your gripe about another website, it is also completley fallacious to present a complaint half cocked leaving out pretty important details like the fact that FB is not the only option rather one option out of a few and the fact that ONLY YOU can determine if you use your real name!

I needed to create a new gmail account so I could make a twitter account in my online game username Ref Minor took a maximum of 3 minutes total including setting the avatar in place, a lot of fuss over nothing, I have the same username on massively as I had before and also have here too.

That's not true at all.  You have to post a comment with your real name, but you don't need Facebook.  You can post something with your Facebook, Google, Open ID, Yahoo, AoL, or Twitter account.  So yep, you have to post as yourself, but aren't required to use Facebook.

Would you have posted something so misleading and inflammatory here if you had to use your real name first?  Or would you have checked your facts and then posted a more reasonable and accurate account of the change?

Yeah, it takes less than 5 minutes to make a bogus Gmail or Yahoo email address to make a bogus Facebook account to post the same mindless shit you were going to post under your current Massively.com handle.  I have a bogus Facebook account for playing the occasional Facebook game so I don't annoy my real non-gamer friends with those games, and I use that same bogus Facebook account to post comments on news stories and such, and I can do the same thing at Massively.  They need to put down the crack pipe if they think this change will cut down on the trolling.

I know you can make a fake facebook. but the "you don't ahve anything to hide" comment is pretty naive. I would NOT link my fb account to anything like a public forum. I don't want/need some creeper stalking my page, my wife's page. Looking at my pictures of my kids.

And yes I know that stuff is up there already, but unless someone knows what and who they are looking for they won't find me..

So yeah.. I would never link my fb account.
