The only luck I had today was to have you as my opponent. |

Woohoo!
Sounds cool. I love my Minecraft. Let's see what Notch comes up with now.
EDIT: I went to the link and it was okay for me. |

I don't think this a true mmo, but more a game you can massively coop on if you choose like minecraft.
Read another article somewhere where he was on about bringing back the feel of both elite and freespace |

Originally posted by Robokapp Agree, looks creepy. Here's the explanation: from the website ""[...]In 1988, a brand new deep sleep cell was released, compatible with all popular 16 bit computers. Unfortunately, it used big endian, whereas the DCPU-16 specifications called for little endian. This led to a severe bug in the included drivers, causing a requested sleep of Initially thought c = speed of light, in 0x10^c ?! Anyone interested in Einstein's General/Special Theory of Relativity + FTL, Warpdrive, Hyperspace, Wormholes etc might dig this game. Also seems the emulation of the 16bit computer is v interesting for powering everything in your ship: ""[...]The computer in the game is a fully functioning emulated 16 bit CPU that can be used to control your entire ship, or just to play games on while waiting for a large mining operation to finish."" This tickles my interest. Sounds more coop/multiplayer but multiverse/megaverse: ""The cost of the game is still undecided, but it's likely there will be a monthly fee for joining the Multiverse as we are going to emulate all computers and physics even when players aren't logged in. Single player won't have any recurring fees.""

OMG... That... is... creepy... but not the link. I remember playing some ELITE clone on the Amiga 500 (I'm pretty sure it was available for other computers as well) back in the day. It had the ELITE style gameplay, obviously, but it also had some novel features that were not part of the original ELITE. One being the ability to fly over the surface of planets to land at spaceports for trading goodness and the other being able to program your ship computer with some sort of programming language. I never quite figured out the purpose of this as it was a pirate copy without a manual and I never found the original in the stores. Game was also quite buggy if I remember correctly and considered somewhat of a failure. I can't remember the name and it bugs the hell out of me as I clearly remember the title screen tune. Maybe someone here remembers the name? I'm a big ol' fluffy carewolf. Be afraid. Be very afraid. |

25 years of Elite :) Ahh the memories.
BTW even idea that Notch is attempting to make new version of Elite fills me with joy. Because for me Elite is the best game ever made. |

Originally posted by Lobotomist No, it was not Frontier (although that one did have planetary landings and was buggy as hell, so I can see why that comes to mind). It came years before that and was much more primitive. The really weird thing about it was that built-in programming language for the ship computer and you could also hail other ships. When hailing other ships, it was like text chatting where you could ask things. There was no menu system or anything. Think old-school EQ where you had to find the keywords to trigger a response. I remember using a plug-in cartridge that could freeze the game and bring up a command console where you could look through and edit the contents of the RAM. A hardware hacking device of sorts. I used it to hunt down some of those keywords and figure out responses from the NPCs. Good times. I can't help but wonder if Notch got the idea for the ship computer from that rather obscure game that few people got to play. I'm a big ol' fluffy carewolf. Be afraid. Be very afraid. |

If it's a fun game without clunky systems design, it'll be a pleasant surprise. If that fails, maybe I can just wait for the Re-Logic guys (Terraria) to release a fun take on the same premise. |

Can i set up like 10% of my weekly pay to just directly contribute to Notch and all his projects? I am such a Notch fanboi it's not even funny, he could make a shit-sandwich eatting game and I would pay for it.
With that said, it will be... interesting with Notch going into the MMO/Multiplayer space. Because from what I could tell from Minecraft is that while Notch is a superb programmer and game designer, I always felt his skills in the multiplayer/networking space were probably his weakest. So I am not holding my breath for the ultimate multiplayer experience, but I'm sure as a single-player or small co-op game like minecraft it will be very good. Interesting approach.. the question is, how will players without any knowledge feel about it. Maybe buy Tools from others like in the real world. Sounds interesting. |

Notch has some good ideas, but is TERRIBLE at implementing them... So I'm very very skeptical. And from the website we have 0 amounts of information. |
