Originally posted by RefMinor Neither SWG nor TOR really could fully realize my fantasy of true Star Wars combat. TOR tried with the smuggler and the cover mechanics, it was just so awkward... MMO History: |

Originally posted by RefMinor Funny enough I actually wanted to play the 'Uncle Owen' role but the game turned out to be way too limited in those aspects. It was a combat & crafting game and did not have the pioneer gameplay I associated with Uncle Owen. |

Originally posted by BadSpockOriginally posted by RefMinor I think everyone who plays SWG for any length of time tries to make a smuggler pistoleers build and then changes it. I don't understand the OP. I have played both games and they both had loading screens. If the conversation turned "Tit-for-Tat", and I've stopped posting, Consider it your win. |

Originally posted by colddog04 Meaning I am lacking the proper frame of reference not having played SWTOR. Is GW2 supposed to be that bad? Although to be honest, even if it is, loading screens are not areas of concern to me. If the conversation turned "Tit-for-Tat", and I've stopped posting, Consider it your win. |

Originally posted by GeezerGamer The videos show a loading screen to get into... inner city areas with a lot of vendors and whatnot. There is loading into instances.
Other than that its pretty much open world in GW2. At least that what I gather from the videos.
I may have misinterpreted what you were saying. But I agree with the idea that GW2 has approximately the same amount of load screens as WoW. SWTOR is the greatest mmo ever! |

Originally posted by colddog04 The issue here is that the OP really didn't make a very specific point. He made a very generic statement and left it to the reader t ointerpret his ideas. That said, I am believeing that the OP is making reference to loading screens.
But also there is a huge technical difference between those games and today's games. The key is rendering. Today's gamers demand so much more in graphic detail than they did in those older games. The more your PC has to render, the more powerful system the players need. And even moreso with MMOs since the system has to be able to adjust to the randomness of number of characters present in any given area along with the differences in the individual character's meshes. Basically, What the OP means is, he want's his cake and to eat it too. There has to be a trade off somewhere my friend. If the conversation turned "Tit-for-Tat", and I've stopped posting, Consider it your win. |

I'd also suggest that the OP is an explorer, and a sense of open world is huge for explorers. The fun factor increases exponentially when you can go anywhere you can see, and it is a huge disappointment when you cannot in other games.
I agree with the OP that if you're an explorer, it's a big deal. Looks like the GW2 folks understand some of that. |

Originally posted by Jaedor I like exploring, the worst thing for me is being able to see something but the game not allowing me to go there, ie SWTOR 3 foot high rocks blocking the way. Originally posted by Cuathon No. WOW is a MMORPG .. by common usage. It is just not a VWRPG. To be honest, i don't really care what you call them though. Diablo 3 is going to be a much better GAME than most GAMES discussed here, and its play style is close enough to WOW (or any hack-n-slash instance heavy MMORPG) that it should appeal to many of the same players. |
