Right now, whenever you see someone from an opposing server in WvW, they simply appear as a "<color> invader" for example, "A red invader," "A blue invader," etc... Personally, I think this just seems a bit artificial. I don't think that we should necessarily see the character names of all enemies, because this may make it a little difficult to differentiate "red" from "blue." But maybe it would be better to use the server name instead of the "color." For example, if the "red team" is from the server "Grenth's Embrace," instead of calling a red player "A red invader," they could be called "A Grenthian Invader." I think it would provide a lot more flavor, and let you know who you are fighting every week, while still making it easy to differentiate each team. I also think it would help provide identity for a server in the GW2 megaverse. For example, if everyone knows that "Grenth's Embrace" is a good WvW server, they will groan when they see "A Grenthian Invader" in WvW. What do you guys think? Are you team Azeroth, team Tyria, or team Jacob? |

They may very well do this, the color invaders may just be a place holder until they actually get server names set (or during these upcoming beta weekends where they will need a lot of servers). I like it as we are supposed to know what team we are fighting. I also think commanders of the enemy groups should be highlighted with stars next to their pre-named invader name. In real war you know the commanders to take out. |

I like it, it is sure as shit better that "red invader." In order for this to work all server names will have to work well with known suffixes. (-i, -ian, -ese, -ic, -ish, -ean) Why cant they show the name and have, in capital red letters, what server color they are from (RED, GREEN, BLUE). In the end, i really dont care, however, I do want to see what guild the player is from. I think that info will be important in the long run. Fear cuts deeper than any sword. |

Here is where my love for GW2 ends and my ego starts. I want my character to be known as a scourge to another realm. I want to build up a reputation for the good or the bad depending on how quickly I develop my pvp skills in this game. I do not want a generic name. In WoW I have always disliked not being able to have the option to turn on cross faction communication (making it voluntary/both players have to have it turned on to communicate and any flaming complaints presented to a GM would not be responded to)....but...at least we can see who we have just killed/been killed by in pvp. Reputations for pvpers who show up to world pvp events regularly are recognized. Recognition is an ego that EVERY player seeks and, for me, it would be welcomed if in W-V-W-V-W Arenanet gave us the ability to do so. |

Why not both? i.e. "Red invader"
Also, an opinion i have voiced before, is how i wouldn’t mind being able to see the name of my enemy, even if it means i have to right click the enemy portrait and select 'Inspect' from a drop-down menu or something similar in nature. That way you’d be able to recognize enemies who outplayed you etc. To me, it would add an extra aspect to WvW but i do recognize the fact that it may also lead to excessive bad mouthing of individuals and as such most likely won’t be implemented.

I dont mind people having names in PvP, but that would mean long names getting targetted first...
But there should be zone wide killspam, so imagine i killed Babsy, then all 3 sides of the servers should see :
Babsy was just killed by Lordbachus.
This was an awesome feauture in DAoC, people used it a lot, and certain people got really famous on their server because of this feature. It would be best if players would have a setting to show their name, their PvP Rank, both, or just an annonymous realmtag above their heads. This way it would be the best of both worlds.
This would really help for server pride and community building. Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) |

this is one time were i would love for arenanet to display an oppenent's gobal WvW's power ranking so that you know what kind of a threat you are dealing with. if they would also take another page out of tf2's book and track how many times an enemy player pwns you and label them as a nemesis or archrival would be even better. in the end, something to identify pain in the ass players would not be asking too much. as of 6/11/12 Necromancer |

WvW is supposed to be more casual and approachable for the non-PvPer. Knowing your enemy can't look up/harrass you because they can't know your name is part of that philosophy. Highly doubt Anet is ever going to back peddle on this and change their mind. Servers will get reputations over time, and I heard that you will display your guild's 3 letter tag as well. Should be plenty. MMO History: |

think they did it this way b/c its server vs server vs server, try picking a name for your char that hasnt been picked on 2 other servers. Fun stuff |

Then again, who knows how much we would lag. The game is optimized and back in the day I was amidst hundreds of other players for realm events and there were no such issues. I have of course upgraded my computer over time along with performance trends so I imagine if 300 players lagged me out I would need to mess with my settings. |

Originally posted by Lucrecia Not really, you can switch servers as you like to PvE, so everyone in the whole GW2 world has to have a unique name anyway.
On top of that there could be 3 persons named Bachus.... Bachus, Bachus and Bachus. Can you see the difference. Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) |

I think personally it adds to the game from an immersive perspective. We've been given this challenge by the gods, after all, to prove ourselves in the Mists. We're testing ourselves against these... beings, these simulcra from somewhere else. They're not people like us... ours is the real world (the real server), so who knows exactly what these invaders are? They may look and react similar to us, but they're not us! They're invaders to the Mists, opposition put there by the gods to test us. They don't need names, they only need to die. |
