I believe in life before death... So dont forget to enjoy it while you still can. |
Actually GW2 has several different game modes build intoo one single game, serving different type of players
- Casual PvE players with their open world DE story driven world - Typical RPG players with their personal story mode - Open world PvP players with their WvWvW zones. - Hardcore competitive PvP players with their structural PvP zones - Hardcore PvE players with their instanced explorable dungeons And on top of that there is dozens of mini games for the bored players, and then there might be even more game modes.
All these games use the same mechanics, but play totally different. on top of that with the exception of the hardcore PvE players you dont have to play any of the other games and can only play your favourite game if you would like to.
I think this is one of the main reasons why so many people will love GW2. Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) |

Originally posted by DarkPony Oh come on Dark, you are far too pretty of a pony to waste your time arguing over semantics. It's so much easier to just call W v W "open world PvP" instead of *catches breath* Semi-persistent multi-server large-scale multi-zone player versus player conflict scenario. Like, really? Open world PvP- "close enough" for hand grenades and horse shoes. MMO History: |

Oh also if you quote me and it's to argue my point, if I don't respond it means I haven't been corrected by you and/or I haven't seen it. Remember I don't mind admitting I am in the wrong. Take care :D |

Originally posted by ariboersma Well, from my DAoC experience i know that when in that part of the world, it will feel just like open world ought to feel with long term objectives and such. Almost everyone that loves open world PvP, will feel at home in the WvWvW parts. And as long as you only roam the WvWvW areas, it will feel like an open world PvP game. In a few months even the pony will admit he just loves the WvWvW, maybe for what it is, or even for being the best surrogat to open world PvP he ever tasted.

Originally posted by Lord.Bachus If everyone and everything fit into neat boxes like that then I think you would be right, but the reality is that they don't. I think some people will like the game and it will see popularity like Guild Wars does. Beyond that I can't buy into such sweeping generalizations. We're an odd and fickle community taken to dramatic shifts in sentiment and as such very difficult to predict. |

Originally posted by Lord.Bachus 2nd objection your honor. I really don't think you can ever call PVP hardcore unless there is signficant penalites for dying in it (aka losing). GW2 just doesn't have that, so best if you leave that word out of your line item. edit: same with PVE really, unless you can lose in PVE like you did in EQ1 (lost graves) or Lineage 1 (lost experience and could even de-level) calling PVE hardcore in MMORPG is a misnomer.

Originally posted by Lord.Bachus To counter a bit, I agree with you in general but I will probably continue to play WoW as well as GW2 because I like hardcore "end-game" PvE raiding. In fact I think the Looking for Raid system in WoW is brilliant - PUG raiding, excellent system for casual raiders. Nice stepping stone for gear and player skill before tackling the "real" raid with your guild. I have a feeling GW2 is going to be "my game" for PvP both fast paced FPS like and more open MMO like as well as my "home away from home" for adventure/exploration and socializing in MMOs.

Originally posted by BadSpock *looks dumbfounded* ... That is remarkably accurate, Spock. Maybe if we abreviate it? "SPMSLSMZPVPCS"? Hmm, no. How about: "Sepemuselascamuzo PVPCS?" I know it sucks but I'm trying to be constructive here!

Originally posted by Nethriil 30 is more than a couple and if the 5 man is challenging then why does the amount of people in it matter? The explorables will be very nice and challenging PVE content. Also the fact that there is way more PVE content than PVP content.. that also makes it primarily a PVE game.

Originally posted by BadSpock I believe hardcore pvp just means the ability for it to be competetive, on a semi professional level.. not just win ro lose. I think its far too soon to tell whether GW2 fits this niche but I think they want to and will do what they can to provide the hardcore PVPers and Esport folks a good time.

Originally posted by Kyleran Well there's your problem. The "hardcore" in the competitive PvP is based on the fact that it's skill based, not gear based. You'll never lose a match to a less skilled player simply because he managed to out-gear you. When all things are equal excepting skill, then the PvP is hardcore. Faux death pentalies tacked on for gits and shiggles is a gimmick, nothing more, and shouldn't be tainting competitive PvP. |

Originally posted by BadSpock ... I can't ... V_V I'll grant you "world pvp" or just "world versus world pvp" (and dropping the last "versus world" like Anet themselves are doing now) as a means of reaching a compromise, but the word "open" I must object to until my last breath. I'm sorry old chap.

Originally posted by DarkPony I think open-world fits... at least as opposed to FFA world PvP, which would be an iteration beyond that. |

Originally posted by bazak Sounds fine but there should be some more worldiness in it maybe, to designate the size of it. But yeah, "semi-persistent world pvp" covers the gist of it. |
