Seriously, WoW sucks now, everyone is aware of this, even the YOGScast guys are disgusted with Mists of Pandaria. Every other game known to man from EQ2 to Lotro has gone F2P which means no respectable person would actually play them past the trial (Im looking at you LOTRO).
So I go on Steam, MMORPG, hell even cruise some forums, and basically the options for MMO's are as followed: Guild Wars (Which we can automatically rule out because its more of a Co-op RPG than anything with no massive player interaction) EVE, which isnt a bad MMO by any means but not something most MMORPG fans can get into unless you like sci-fi themes and being in a ship the whole game. And last Rift, which again not a bad game, but ive played it enough (Around 100 hours) and dont really feel the need to pick it back up again.
So Im just an average MMO consumer, and as it stands, it doesnt even look like theres any other viable options on the market right now? Or am I missing something? Or is it just that MMO's are in a proverbial dark age???
EDIT: On a side not I just want to say WoW has been dead since BC, and they just REZ and pissed on it with lich king, but now even the most hardcore of fans have dropped it, just to be clear on what I meant. |

Sounds like there is no hope for you. I would find a new hobby if I couldn't find 1 MMO on this site to have fun with. playing:GW1,DCUO |

Originally posted by Jot_Vau Im just saying, in general its bad how little options there are for MMO players, I mean people are always on here defending linear based games and saying how Sandboxes arent needed cause no one wants them...
But theres not even any regular Decent MMO's left, they have all either gone F2P or just run on fumes with barely any people.
I mean if I was someone coming into the MMO market for the first time, I would be kinda dissapointed. Which is why Im REALLY dissapointed because theres nothing for me as an MMO fan at all! Choices would be nice. |

You just can't match your first high...so nothign is enough nor never will be. |

I always find something to play. I dont like themeparks. So that narrows my options a bit. The ones I like best are Mortal Online and Darkfall. Darkfall is going to wipe for 2.0 so there really isnt any reason to play that again now. Mortal on the other hand is coming out with pve in the next expansion amongst other things. So Im playing that now. If those 2 werent around I'd have Salem and Archeage to look forward to. Whats my point? My point is there are other sandboxes out there besides EVE. |

Originally posted by jiveturkey12 I'd just try to do some online gaming in genral to kill time inbetween the lapses of waiting to play EVE and Rift or whatever.. I'll play some Starcraft 2 for a bit, not bad.. PvP's and PvE's (Although it can wear thin if your not a big strategist like some). I'm kind of in the same boat as you, I log into EVE a few hours during the day, but sometimes just AFK marketting. Rift haven't logged in a little while. I'm wondering about GW2 but I'm a little Meh about it. I think I might go with Diablo 3 instead. Planetside 2 and The Secret World are also on the waiting table. Throw in some luv for the Playstation 3 every once and while and I'm good for the most part.

MMO Consumer eh?
Well, as for me I see no MMORPG title currently worthy to be called an MMO or an RPG. So, get busy doing sonething else until one designer manage to convince a publisher to make something new and different from the quest-driven theme park junk we've been forced to play the past 8 years. So, there is no hope prior to 2014. |

As others have said here and elsewhere:
You got your start in "A" mmo which was super amazing and new and nothing had ever been like it before... Then you moved onto "B" mmo which was new and improved graphics and a new world.. not as good as the first experience probably but still enjoyable! And now you're left with nothing enjoyable. It is no different than drugs or sex. Sex, you do normal position and last a minute or two at first. Then you start switching up positions and trying new things. Eventually you've got stuff stuck up your ass and two women in tight leather beating you with belts and sh*t. |

You ruled out GW1 not because it was not a fun game but because you don't think its a MMORPG. How many potentially fun games have you turned down because reasons such as this? Never argue with a fool, onlookers may not be able to tell the difference. -Author unknown, attributed to Mark Twain |

I dont get the OP. Why does a person who, without even giving a reason, avoids F2P MMOs religiously, believe they are an "average gamer" ? Obviously I'm quite happy with Vanguard ... which is going to be F2P in summer. |

Originally posted by Jot_Vau believe me, the OP is far from alone. I have sevenl MMOs on my pc (one subbed and the others F2P) and most nights I can't be bothered to even load them up. |

Originally posted by Dibdabs I personally am (was?) in preety much same boat. There is one good solution though. Instead of hopping between countless mmorpg's are trying countless trials or f2p games even though you know by game description / info that there is close-to-zero chance that you will like it - give it a rest seriously.
I've stopped and it is ironically bit of relief. Still as can be seen I lurk on mmorpg.com cause I do alot of work in front of a computer so I cannot play games but can visit a forum in-between tasks but I've stopped desperate attempts to find another mmorpg. Seriously not playing mmorpg for even a long time is not that scary lol
If you cannot see any current mmorpg worth your time ,then don't play and browse through upcoming games instead. I have 2 titles out of quite a bit of titles upcoming that caught my interest. One of it is months till release , second one propably at least a year from release.
Until then I don't even attempt to play mmorpg. Been there having multiple mmorpg installed on my hdd but not wanting to even log in to them - it is pointless. Foring youself to play mmorpg's just cause you've been playing them for last few years almost constantly.
Doing like this also damage market and that's one of reasons why there is carbon copies of same ol mmorpg plastered everywhere (+ some indie , or old titles).
Go on hiatus and come back when some new game that caught your interest will be released.
Blowing your money & time on countless F2P titles or Boxes of p2p titles that you abanon after free month is really not a solution.
You know there are other things to do instead of playing mmorpg's. There are single player games or just things that does not involve a computer / gaming :) |

Maybe a good time to check out some ftp's. Nothing lost but a little download time. World Of Tanks made the Guiness Book Of World Records for most players on at one time. And just had a new patch. It's good for a little entertainment. |

Originally posted by jiveturkey12 I'd say we're coming out of the dark age into one where there is a bit more diversity and greater longevity in what is coming out. It seems like when we look back at this period in time years from now, League of Legends and World of Tanks will be seen as two of the most prominent MMOs in leading that change. LoL released prior to this mess of mediocrity but it didn't really seem to be taken seriously until a year or two later. filmoret: One thing I have never figured out is why the game devs hardly ever fix simple problems that arise. It is like they don't care about the pvp community. Nitth: What makes you so sure its a simple fix? filmoret: Because most of them are. Sometimes its just changing a number in a code string other times its creating a few variables. However none of them should take over a few hours of coding. |

Originally posted by yewsef Don't be so negative. First of all is GW2 different from the "quest driven" junk but I guess it isn´t your cup of tea. The same can actually be said about TSW even though I am rather sceptical about FunCom. There are a few more that hopefully might be released next year though. Class IV is a zombie MMO that is rather different from anything we seen before. The lead designer also was lead designer on Diablo, Warcraft 3 and Guildwars, and he have a rather impressive team. World of darkness online seems to be shaping up as well even if a late 2013 release probably is our best hope. They finally started revealing stuff about it on the eve fan faire and they said we will hear a lot more about it later this year. Bethesda/Zenimax have spent 5 years on a MMO, rumor say it is based in the same world as Skyrim and that it will be revealed later this month. Archeage seems pretty different as well and a 2013 release is far from impossible in the west. Of course you will probably not like all of these games, maybe even none of them but they ain´t EQ/WoW clones and are trying different stuff. They all also have a good budget. |
