This keeps coming across my mind. I want logical, non flaming answers. With the way Guild Wars 2 is built, not being gear based, not having a strong gold influence, what do you consider "winning" at it. Does winning at a game like GW 2 mean that others are losing? I think of this question because itssomething we joke about in tabletop dungeons and dragons. I run across a new player oncee a year who builds this broken character, and we have to explain how he's not playing against the other people but with them, so it doesnt matter how powerful his character is, it has to be able to work well with others. So long as everyone has a chance to shine in dungeons and dragons, all players are considered winning. I assumed this to be the case in guild wars 2. IN other mmos i have played it was easy to see winning, especially the real play to win games. Runes of magic i won when i had tons of defense for my armor. In Rift when i reached level 50 and had tier 3 armor. But I don'[t see the winning aspect of GW2. |

Obtain first place in 13 annual 5v5 tournaments, or have fun.
Your call. |

Mostly fun for me. Making alts. Occasinally pvp, but more like WvW, not tournaments and all that stuff. |

You do not 'win' MMOs, you may complete content, but you do not win... As for WvWvW, you can win the current battle, then you get a new one every 2 weeks, verse equal skilled servers (beginning may have problems, due to no records to base this on)...So every 2 weeks you could win something, but as a whole....No. I played EQ on and off, mostly on, for like 10 years, I never got my 'you won!' trophy...Played UO for 7-8 years, same thing, and it's the same for every other real MMO I played. MMOs are made to be open ended.

Being successful at playing the game. Being better than your direct competitors. Having a better k/d ratio/point score than the average joe on your pvp server (competitive pvp). By mastering your profession. By mastering all professions. By achieving the goals you set. Choose for yourself. |

The battle for WoW honor for example gave you pvp gear sets that made you stronger. Here what do you win? Don't say the fun of it because fun runs short if there is nothing else to do. People will get bored and quit playing. Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not. |

This is not a flame but i am sure it will come across as one. If you have to ask how to win at a MMO then you have not played an MMO, you do not "Win" a game with no ending, this is not a single player game. I am sorry i do not understand the way you have phrased this or i am not falling for the attempt at trolling cause i am seriously bewildered at the actual question.
So in a more succinct manner to answer your question : You do not win in GW2 or any other MMO for that matter. Lolipops ! |

You shouldn't be so stiff about ad&d, if he want to play against the other just let him do it, and see what happen. |

play for enjoyment. When you aren't having fun, don't play Did some one give you a cookie everytime you beat Super Mario Bros? these modern incarnations of MMO's have conditioned people to keep running on a hamster wheel

winning = having fun without getting bored. MOBA's, LoL, DOTA2 are games that provide endless hours of fun. GW2 will have the fun pvp, in addition to, arguably, the best PVE on the market. |
