..since this game first came out I still stutter like crazy when entering any city and every time I run into a chunk line its like hitting a brick wall for 3 -5 secs. To top it off i mentioned this ingame and was Still told its my pc thats the problem. I thought they had solved these kind of performance issue long ago or were those die hard VG players jusy blowing smoke to try to get subs? Watch your thoughts; they become words. |

I don't play the game but i'm sure it would help those who could answer your question if you told them what your upgrades were. You could have upgraded from a pentium 2 to a pentium 3 or a voodoo2 to sli 680gtx's for all anyone knows. Always keep your words soft and sweet, just in case you have to eat them. |

I have never had problems like that, the only thing I ever really noticed, aside from some graphical glitches was the loading when I would cross an invisible border into another area of the map, it would be like the loading screens from EQ except I never left the game world.
Chunk line, that is what I am talking about.
Then again with the game going free-to-play later this year I don't mind at all. It will be nice to play the game again with more people this time around. That Guild Wars 2 login screen knocked up my wife. Must be the second coming! |

I actually have worse problems with EQ2. But yeah, SOEs engines are unoptimized and not that greatly coded (even if that really is Sigils fault here). |

Originally posted by mymmo Guys. Chunks are synonymous with zones, a ton of stuff is loaded when you enter a chunk. The cool thing is a. you can see into it and b. there is no loading screen. Everyone has this problem, the only way you can reduce it is a. Load all the chunk assets being loaded onto a RAM drive or b.use an SSD I have an SSD i run vanguard on and i still get a couple second pause when going over a chunk line, it is just the way it is and if you think about it, it is quite better than a loading screen. |

People still play this game ?!?!
I remember years back at release it ran decently on medium settings for whatever rig I had at that time. Anyway, as others have stated, the engine is likely bad not your computer. EQ2 has a horrible engine. That game is many MANY years old and even on brand new top end gaming machines the engine can't handle maxed settings with much action on the screen. |

Originally posted by Painlezz You are talking rubbish and yes people still play Vanguard,i'm one. Anyway, yes EQ2 has a dodgy engine but on a top range pc it runs just fine.I have two boxed all my MMO including EQ2 and Vanguard.I run two version of the clients on high settings and one on ultra with 50fsp on each client so your observation is wrong. |

Going into khal will always give you a bit of a stutter but like the above poster a SSD is the answer. Chunking is way better than zoning, you never leave the game world. I have played since release and have 4 level 55s and numerous other level atls, vanguard is not the same buggy mess it was 5+ years ago. One bug that is still there is the rain bug if you have vista or windows 7,you can't see it only hear it. |

see, I can and do Play EQ2 on near Max settings. Only shadows and grass off everything else on max and I get No stuttering or any performance issues at all, yet VG any city/villag etc and its like freeze framing every 5 secs and chunking stop my character cold for 5+secs and sometimes I even end up facing the opposite direction on the other side. say I enter going -> on oneside ..on the other side Im facing <- back the direction i came from which mean i hit the same dang chunk line again.. never happens in eq2 or any other MMO i play. If they hope f2p to be any sucsess theyre gonna have to fix this crap engine as much as possible. Id love to play VG but i wont do it with these issues still lingering. Watch your thoughts; they become words. |

There is a nice tweaking post on the vg forum that may help you. I haven't had trouble in years, even with my last rig. I run vg on a ssd though.

It runs great on the laptop I bought a few months ago. Granted, I still get the chunking, but it's typically under a second of hitch. http://ardwulfslair.wordpress.com |

Who did wrong? The advertiser hired to sell the game or the consumer who put faith in advertising? |

Originally posted by Loke666 I remember an article where a disgruntled developer of VG complained that they were not allowed coding tools but rather had to code each line by hand. I'm not technically savvy enough to know exactly what this means, but I extrapolate that: 1. VG is the last 'hand-crafted' mmo. 2. Optimizing code line by line must be time consuming and costly. 3. VG, for whatever reason, has simply not had the development staff to 'fine tune' VG's code. 4. When it is f2p, I anticipate the coding will begin being optimized, but only if the revenue stream and population of the game increases significantly. But of course, I could be dead wrong. I hope not, however. If they can streamline chunking, I think it is our best hope for seemless, non-instanced worlds in future mmos. |
