Originally posted by sonoggi Nah, TOR wanted the game to look like that animated SW series. Well, they might still have taken a shot of opium or something when they decided of course but they had some reasons behind it. I personally think that in some aspects are AoC, TERA and FF XIV better than GW2 but GW2 have excellent art and a lot of amazing details so how OP can think that games like archeage looks better is a mystery to me. Nothing against AA but graphics is not it's strong side. |

The graphics :
Art style; - incredibale, most artistic MMO ever - Not very realistic, they have choosen artistic styl;e above realisme SCalabillity - The engine seems to handle huge groups of Players very well, with only limited FPS drops. - The low end graphics are still very acceptable - The new high end graphics used in last weekends press beta work very fluently, but still leave room for improvement (Cynical Brit) Annimations - Very fluent, the first game that comes close or even surpasses WoW's annimations fluency
Despite the few shortcommings, most of the press called the graphics the most immersive game graphics in MMO history.
And don't judge gamegraphics based on youtube video's as with their current way of decoding even on 1080p HD the background scenery tends to blur.
Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) |

Originally posted by cutthecrap Yeah, you are right about the backgrounds, it do look fine. The game have the same issue as LOTRO, nice background, ugly avatars and mobs. So I was a bit unfair. |

Originally posted by Lord.Bachus "most of the press" "most immersive graphics ever in the whole of MMO history" While I agree that GW2's world looks to be very immersive, hyperbole statements like that usually trigger my sceptic sense, regardless whether it's about GW2 or another game or a car. Sure, I can see some press reporters say that they're impressed with the graphics, but the majority of the press reports saying exactly that, that GW2 has the best/most immersive graphics ever seen in the whole of MMO history? ... show me the proof, is what I'd usually say, get like 20-30 press reviews and show that in more than 15 of them the review literally stated that he/she found GW2's graphics the most immersive graphics ever seen in an MMO. It just reeks too much like a hyperbole made to bolster up someone's point, unnecessary I think. |

Originally posted by Loke666 Yeah, that's the problem with a lot of graphics discussions, usually people have only 1 aspect of the graphics in mind when they talk about it, characters, environment or art style, often leading to misunderstandings when other people are talking about different graphics aspects of that same game. I thought the AA character models were ok, but TERA's I found very well done (although I dislike the art style choice), then again I found the TERA environment graphics less impressive than AA environment graphics. For TSW I think the environment graphics and monster model graphics are great looking, but the character models can do better. As for GW2, when GW came out I still think it was graphically the most impressive MMO (CORPG) around, the best character models in an MMO in that time period. GW2, it looks like it'll have some other MMO's that will equal or even surpass it, either in character graphics or environment graphics. In art style though, imo they'll be unsurpassed. |

Graphics ARE NOT Outdated.
ArenaNet have taken up a completely new style of graphics for Guild Wars 2 ~ They have produced a more paint brush, concept art style which is amazing :D |

Originally posted by Puraimaru Funny you say that, I was just looking at one of the videos someone posted in the first link. I agree it's DIFFERENT definately and describing it as paint brush concept art style fits quite well. Yet watching it, things which look like cherry blossoms on the trees are a little reminder of GW1. So it's familiar looking yet not quite the same. |

Im not against GW2 gamemechanics. GW1 was my first *mmorpg* that i ever bought. Im just talking here about the graphic-engine. Sure, some places look really beautyful in GW2 but if you dont have he tools to display that art design how it should be, it looks really not that fascinating. If somone could give confirmation, that the beta footage uses the low quality pack-im happy to hear that. Thats all im missing to hear, because if thats all they show, thats pretty low i think. Im not the guy who will buy extra a hyper strong pc just to use all full details. i play probably on mid details, just for the future, i would like to know if theres more space. All Sreenshots from A-net are maxed out.. But who will of you use all shadows in the game? most will disable them from beginning. If the graphics are this low, and you disable the shadows, we get graphics from 2007. Thats what piss me off. |

Originally posted by makii If your computer is from 2007 then why are you pissed off that the computer can only handle 2007 graphics? To get good graphics you need a modern system. My god, 2007 is 5 years ago. o_O And you can build a modern system for $700(ish) dollars nowadays. Wonder why there seems to be more haters on the internet? Read this by an actual marketing guy to find out why. |

Originally posted by Dream_Chaser Another truth posted by Dream_Chaser. Without competent art direction, there's nothing you can send to the graphics card that will make the game look and feel good. I bought & played a few weeks of EQII, and just couldn't handle how freakin' ugly everything was. Ugly colors, ugly people, ugly landscape. As he said, the higher fidelity of EQII didn't come close to matching the artistic style & direction of WoW at the time. I also suggest that the art style used by Blizzard was one of the reasons for the great success of the game. |
