It's pretty obvious that Arenanet made a tragic mistake by not hiring this guy.  He knows where the tick boxes are that you need to convert instantly and easily from low-end to high-end graphics and vice versa.

Just think all that money they wasted by hiring programmers and graphics people. :(

Like texture Popping if anyone played rage there consolelietis of the game and engine had texture popping so in a distance everything looks good if you stand still but soon you got close the texture would look horrible and bad still but little better and clear its manipulating the visuals all console games have this

some games do the other way around the call of duty games do this they have good visuals from distance but close up bad it can be done both ways

Rage was just very noticeble popping from what i remeber its called texture streaming in rage the textures streaming is low in call of duty its higher but close up terxtures look worser this is also texture streaming but backwards

and tick box was just a gimick of showing people that features can be implemented and that after applying in game and restarting the game  Could be a tick Box or a Advance option but thats all in game just example of a method of ingame options or even way DDO has 2 clients Low rez and high Rez Client

 what is it.. a year or 2 ago here in this forum , where we had to explain to alot off people complaining about the trailers for gamescom claiming that they would be waiting to judge until they see ingame footage,  that it was in fact ingame footage they saw.

Sure... do a comparison of in game footage run on high graphics, also do a comparison of what system requirements are needed to run the game smoothly at lowest settings... also make sure the goggles are off whilst doing such comparisons. 

Blade & Soul being above par in graphics?? Eh... don't think so.

Arche Age, maybe. TERA's character graphics are pretty good, but the environment graphics I'm not that impressed with. Kinda reminds me of how it was with Aion, that one also had great character graphics but so-so environment graphics.

GW2's char graphics are good, imo on the level of a Rift, slightly below TERA's, but its environment graphics are imo better than TERA's. Blade & Soul's environment graphics, hmm, I saw some hours of footage, it was good but not that it made me think 'wow, that's exceptional'.

Blade and Souls graphics are like 10x better than any other big budget mmorpg coming out this year... are you kidding me?

I think the graphics are pretty nice. Though I've just started playing Shattered Galaxy again. ;)

Heck, art direction beats raw engine power any day. I don't care for polygon counts.

this thread is a troll fest. GW2 will have the best gfx on the MMO market, by far. with EVE in second place. the rest is garbage imo. for example, TERA has decent gfx, but lacks in art. TSW went for a non-stylized realistic look, which simply doesnt work for the game. not sure what happened with TOR >.< they must have been smoking something strong.

Dinh is just stirring shit at this point. He hasn't said anything relevant in ages other than baseless rebuttals (if I can call them that) where he's flipped his wrist and said 'oh, I'm better than you because I'm objective.'

I mean, really. The guy hasn't contributed anything of worth.

I work in art circles a lot, I know what constructive criticism is, I know how to point out flaws without making myself look like the world's biggest sociopath. Dinh doesn't. He apparently doesn't work in too many artistic circles, and as such I completely distrust his integrity. If people in this thread were more constructive and less like Dinh, I might buy that GW2 looks outdated. But it just seems like a bunch of trolls to me.

Show me factually how it looks outdated, give me examples, highlight problems in those examples, and really break it down. Because as it stands it's just a bunch of people who subjectively dislike the stylised look who're pushing that as objectively bad and making themselves look like complete and utter jerks in the process.

Yup. ArenaNet is an arthouse developer. Weirdly, some of this smacks of jealousy. It's like people are pissing over it because it doesn't look as good as their chosen MMO, or because they're straight up shit at art.

I'd love to see this become a thread where people contribute things that aren't just subjective opinion pushed as fact in the most fucking horribly insidious ways possible. But I can't see that happening.

I agree GW art style is simply BEAUTIFUL. I loved how my warriors hair would blow in the wind at times. Much better then the helmet hair look you get in many other MMO's. And the world itself, area after area was just breathtaking at times. This GW1 of course, I can't imagine they would  change their style over much for their sequel.

In fact I love my clueless boardgamer analogy so I will post it again :D

(tried to find similar quality, similar content, similar time frame (as recent as possible) all from Beta's

Just based on these vids, although the blade and soul was only 720 so its not really fair.

I would say best graphics were Tera, GW2, then Blade and soul. If I had to score them it would be 9,8, and 6

I would say GW2, Tera, then Blade and Soul. Scores would be 9, 7, and 5.

So over all, since i weight aesthetics 3 to one over graphics. My score would be

GW2- 8.5 overall

Tera- 8

B & S- 5.5

Yeah, really up close to characters both Tera and Blade & Soul look almost cell-shaded. Far too anime.

Amazing what you can get away with when you use lower poly models with high quality cell shaded textures and lighting.

im not really into the anime style (art).

But i must say i really really dig the technology behind it :) It looks really slick. But really the GFX on all 3 looks so nice it's really not a matter of gfx anymore. It's a matter of style preference and gameplay.

Well that is the thing. it is matter of prespective you just called everything else garbage except for GW2. So why get upset when others do the same? no two people will agree on this subject. You call this topic a troll fest and then do exactly what others are doing? should we consider your post as a trollfest too? or it is ok as long as you are defending GW2?
