Originally posted by Comaf Dark Age of Camelot was created in 2001. Most of this post seems like delusional ranting. Norn culture was heavily fleshed out in both GW1 Eye of the North expansion and in the upcoming GW2. The Sylvari are new, but their culture has been explained in the books and in game (and their origin was hinted at during Eye of the North with Ventari's sanctuary). These two cultures do not fight and kill each other en masse... which is why there is no world PvP. Heroes fight within 'the Mists' for honour and glory against other realms... same as in Guild Wars 1 (http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/The_mists). Race has nothing to do with it, all five races are aligned against the common threat of the Elder Dragons. That isnt to say that there isnt conflict between powerful guilds, but race is not the driving factor - hence Guild Wars and not Racial Wars. In fact, the lore for Guild Wars is one of the most fleshed out of any MMO around. |

I think there are a few hints already of what they're planning for the future. The domain of winds being inaccessible at launch strikes me as "hey we're probably going to add Tengu as a playable race in the first xpac." Which is neat and all. I would rather have centaur, but that's a little unrealistic. New weapons and utilities would be great, and it's always been my thinking of how they could expand classes in the same way that they did the first game. Still, they're probably going to add more classes, simply because they really seem to enjoy building professions. |

I want an mmorpg where pvp matters, my enemies are not my race or class, and community matters. |

Originally posted by evilastro Instead of weakly dismissing me as ranting, state replies to what I claim that are fair and make sense. Or, call it a rant if it makes you see this as an mmorpg.
World v World v World, however, the instanced Battlegrounds, etc show that yes you will indeed be killing each other's races and classes. Why would any game with lore allow for this to occur? The answer is the same as the other E-Sport games where battlegrounds are the focal point of the fantasy shooter equivalent. Age of Conan was a great example of this exact model. Mirrors vs mirrors and broken lore without explanation because "we don't want to make things too complicated."
So continue to hang a sign on this IP and call it an mmorpg with lore, when indeed it's a fun E-Sport - not an mmorpg. Again, let me reiterate that real mmorpgs have the term RPG in them. This means there's some attempt at plausible lore. The only part you stated that I agree with is that "race has nothing to do with it," because race truly does not matter in a video game. It's just a cosmetic formality.
Be careful that you don't swallow so much of the hype of yet another eventual pay to win video game that you fool yourself into thinking you have something of quality. I wish the game would release already, so it could follow the path of the last super great mmorpg title, SW:ToR. People will play this game, but it will not have anything that will draw the same memories of real mmorpgs such as Ultima, EQ, DAoC, etc. I'll stop replying now I suppose. There's no point in debating this. If yo udon't already see what I am saying than you are part of the issue of the failure of modern mmorpgs to truly be RPG.

Originally posted by Comaf I'm not seeing your point, are you mad because there are no racial conflicts like in DaOC and World of Warcraft? What makes you think that a game requires forced conflict between races? Why cant it be a political thing between guilds, or battles between realms for control of the Mists, as is the case with Guild Wars? |

GW has so much lore behind the game (with books published to boot). That said, yes, GW was very unbalanced when they added the Rit and 'SIn to the game. When Nightfall came out the same thing heppened. If you read the A.net blog posts from that time you will know they understand that THEY created the imbalance and should not have introduced the professions in the way that they did. That said, I doubt they will add any new professions to the game as they have already been burned twice by add ins. |

OP, you claimed that adding new characters doesn't affect people who don't want to start over but that isn't true. First, it adds more classes that you can group with, affecting group composition. Second, it gives you more variety of opponents in PvP. |

I don't think Anet ruled out raising the Level cap with new expansions. In fact I think they hinted at that probably being the case. You aren't forced to buy the expansion, but a raised level cap would surely be an extra incentive. |

Originally posted by JoeyMMO Considering ANets reputation and all that, if the level cap was raised in an expansion they would also raise it for the core game at the same time, or at the very least raise it for PvP for everyone. It's how they work, they will copmletely avoid PvP inbalance and probably PvE as well. |

"I’ve never seen a spear throwing gladiatorial roman-Anglo looking spear thrower class before."
There's one in LOTRO, it's called the Warden. Very fun imo. I do wish more games had this type of warrior class because it was ALL over the ancient world in human history. I don't agree, i think that:
Just love it when people monster-under-the-bridge these types of posts with nonsense. No they won't add healers, who needs a healer when my engineer can drop AOE pots, shoot AOE spray, and drop a crate of bandages and healing pots for my party to run threw without stopping and get the healing affect from them? no more staring at bars methinks. Those days are over.

If you are grouped with someone and your close, you will be sidekicked up your group partners level. However, once you leave the person, you will not be. Furthermore, you will not get new skills or anything like that. Basically you are just able to survive and play with your friends even if you are under levelled.

Originally posted by El_Lion Well I am not worrying, but I think it's fair to talk about - They just added Elite skills for the races, and we got more too come. (Elites!) Actually, the inspiration from the post came from several videos, by TB.
In one of his recent ones, he is talking about Dynamic Events. He mentions some problems with them (though beta is beta). For example, one of them was about some areas had dynamic events that re-appeared after 10 minutes. This might be a bug, this might be a content area that has not had all it's Dynamic Events added, or it might be an Dynamic Event that has been speed increased to have more people be able to test it. He also talks about the combat, and how some people have called it mindless button smashing were it does not matter which buttons you press. The reddit thread from a few days ago talked about this.
When you look at World of Warcraft (the ever uno lasting example) as they add new level caps, certain areas and dungeons dissapear and become forgotten. Vast amounts of great content in WoW became abandoned over the years. The great thing about having a world like GW2 and have it run on Events, is that you want to go back to low level areas as a high level player.
So what does that mean? It means that it is worth investing time in putting more stuff into concurrent areas. Of course they should expand the world (Cantha, Elona, The Mists, Ring of Fire, Maguumi..), but and I truly mean BUT - They should take head and make sure the entire world is kept alive.
TotalBiscuit mentioned something cool - When you go to a vendor, no matter were you are in the world, it will sell you stuff for your level. So if your a level 75 and your going back to a level 5 area, that weapon vendor will sell you level 75 gear. This reason is because people wont be in quest hubs. So you might have end game open bosses at lvl 80 in low level areas! |
