This is a completely non-troll non-sarcasm post.

Most of the forum threads I see active on the front page of the site now involve GW2.  It's like everyone is hyping it so hard.  I understand the game has all these features and arenanet is delivering on all their promises.  But I am worried that you guys are getting too amp'ed up for it.  Like too excited for your own good.

Try to remember all of the games that had everything that we thought would be perfect, yet people lost interest.  I am not saying GW2 won't be an amazing game.  I'm just saying, why not keep your expectations of the game to a low or medium level, so that if the game does end up to be amazing, you are that much more impressed.  But if everyone has high expectations, then the game will bring nothing but contentment at the best, and dissapointment at the worst.

I have played alot of MMORPGs and Guild Wars 1 was one of them.  I played it for a short while but the game just wasn't for me.  I'm more of a powergamer who wants to accumulate as much power and prowess as possible, and as many of you know, Guild Wars 1 was a game that emphasized a level playing field in PVP, and characters were easy to get to a competitive level of growth.  So, with that said, I am not a fan of the Guild Wars game type, but I do appreciate the quality and execution of the game.  Guild Wars 1 was a very solid polished high quality game, for its game type.  So I feel like Guild Wars 2 will not be the game for me, but I do think it will be a great game, for those who loved GW1.

My point is, I'm kind of on the sidelines watching how this is all playing out.  I am neither a fan of GW2 nor a hater, I'm just a 3rd pair of eyes looking in.   And I just feel like people are getting too optimistic.  Regardless of how many features a new game has, sometimes the game just isn't for you.  Sometimes the peices just don't fit together as well as we were expecting.

Just keep your expectations at a level that won't set you up for possible dissapoinment.  That's all I'm saying.

Never played GW1, didn't like the set up, however GW2 looks pretty great. I think maybe peopl are just excited that we might actually have an MMO geared towards PvP...I know I am. 

Actually there are more troll posts and attempted fault finding threads than anything.

No offense, but I think everyone would be better off if you let us enthusiasts worry about ourselves.  If the game tanks, it tanks.  Your worrying will only stir up further animosity that no one really needs.  Check that -- feel free to worry, just don't share it with us.  You're only peeing on the parade, which is something only trolls will smile at.

While I do believe that dealing with hype and managing expectations is a personal responsibility, I fear what may happen I am let down by GW2.  I am rather excited for GW2 to release as everyone else is.

Almost certainly it would lead to an extended break from MMO gaming. 

If GW2 is a let down, It would be a great disappointment, no matter how well you have managed your expectations.

OP, fear not.  There are plenty of other folks that have told us to "simmer down" before your post, so the "GW2 fan simmer down" situation is already being taken care of ;)!

And really... any GW2 enthusiast would know what they are getting themselves into right now, from all the exposure this game has been getting. So anyone expecting something that hasn't been promised, like a gear grind, from this game deserves to be disappointed and I shouldn't care about their future troll post on the forums if the game lives up to my expectations.

I think one game that enthusiasts should be concerned about is The Secret World. The game is still heavily NDA'd and there's a release date for it, this June.

I understand what you're saying OP, but there's one thing I can say about GW2...

What is all this negativity you speak of? Been watching a lot of GW2 stuff lately, reading forums. I see some constructive critisiscm, some worries, not a ton of negativity though. Care to elaborate or point me in the direction you're finding all this..?

The negativity I've seen is from people over blowing the cash shop items by a long shot.

With the demise of the holy trinity, we know tanking is impossible, so no worries there. :D

The "trolls" and "fanboys" just keep getting on each others nerves right now, and its kinda stuck in a negative spirale.

But this happens ALL THE TIME on this site, its like the shifting seasons. Or like the cycles of "Men who play females", "This is the WoWkiller!!1!" and "Themepark vs Sandbox" -topics.

So its nothing to worry about, at least its nothing anyone can do anything about. Just sit tight and dont forget the seat belt, its a bumpy ride ahead!

(On a sidenote: wasnt it "The Secret World" next on the laundry list? Or is it so secret that no one talks about it, kinda like fight club?)

I for one am super excited for this game to come out.  Is there a possibility of disappointment?  Absolutely.  Does it temper my enthusiasm?  Hell no!

Even if I think GW2 turns out to be a massive fail, I'll get over it.  Won't be the first time I've ever been disappointed and it won't be the last.

There are literally hours of footage on the web now detailing everything in the game except for the shop (only thing that was still under NDA for press.)

WvW, instanced PvP, dynamic events, meta events, personal story, crafting, exploration, etc.

This isn't just hype.

The evidence is out there.

No smoke and mirrors. No spin.

Real, raw footage of people actually playing the game. Hours of it.

Watch and decide for yourself.

  As a matter of fact, I was tempted to start a thread about how these game forums are suppose to be a place for fans to gather and discuss there favorite game(s), and yet, MY favorite game forum is filled with trolls and naysayers.  I don't ever go over to the wow forum, for example, and piss in their coffee  Let me just say that 1. Most of us have been waiting for a very long time  2. I would argue that the relationship between the community and Anet is different than most.  I won't try to speak for everyone, eh, I won't try to explain it either, it's just different.  3. We're not stupid, we can see what they're doing, and, I gotta tell ya, most of us like what we've seen pretty damn well.  4.  We Know it's not perfect, nothing is.  5. I would say, most of us are realistic, liking what I've seen, is not playing it, and even though I'm very excited, there is a part of me that thinks, "This is going to be so different from GW, there's a possibility, that I won't like it as much as I think I will".  I think that's highly unlikely, nevertheless, until it's on my hard drive, I can only imagine.  So, don't worry about us, we're for the most part, a level headed well informed group.

Exactly my own sentiment, sir OP.

Might have to do with me recognizing the hyped up state these people are in very, very clearly in relation to the SWTOR delusion I suffered myself recently. Also WAR and AoC have been disappointing me in the past (though my hype was less for those). But SWTOR made me more skeptical than ever towards any (not fully tested or disclosed) themeparkish mmorpg, no matter in which novel way they present their rides.

I just hope for their sake (and maybe my own too) that this one will turn out right but I'll be watching from the sidelines at first. It's great to have nothing to "lose" :)
