Bad Parenting + Internet = Kid Troll -Teen Troll - 20's Troll - adult Troll .. I place the blame 100% on the parents, if they can't raise a child with some form of integrity the child will only grow with these poor beliefs! I was out with friends or playing sports as a child, football, rugby, biking, cow tipping.. 90% of my free time.. 10% I spent playing games and to be honest I never went on forums as we didn’t have social networking sites like Facebook or Twitter.. Showing the age of gamers or forum posters will never be a valid option as people lie.. lie lie and lie. So I only converse with real life friends in games and keep it to that...
All hail the Barn Owl! oh.. and the RED SQUIRREL!!! |

@OP I've met 12 year olds that were more mature than 30 year olds, it's not about age it's about maturity. There are 10 year olds that have been through more shit than a grown man.I see the point you're trying to make though, you don't like idiots, but the fact is that just because someone is an idiot it doesn't mean that they're young. Oh and, you were a kid once.(people tend to forget that) |

Age has nothing to do with maturity and being smart. Read the post above me. i support this guy. I know certain someone on these forums who is almsot 40 and would put any 12 years old to shame in lack of maturity. |

I've met really cool 14 yeah olds and childishly annoying 50 year olds in MMOs. Age has nothing to do with maturity. Seems a lot of others have had similar experiences. The OP is just another example of stereotyping. |

Originally posted by corpsegank Ah there you go, I happen to think Corpsegank age 19 has a wise view of these matters. I'm the other side of 40 and learned quite a long time ago age means little. There are people with bad attitudes from all age groups and that's never going to change. As someone posted somewhere above too, you reach a point where you learn it's OK to walk away from conversations with some people even if you know they are talking rubish. He who shouts loudest is not always right they are simply the loudest. Good post corpsegank. |

In "real life" I've always been rather shy and I don't know why... but that's me. Back around 1986 I got my first modem which was a 300 baud unit for my C64. When I went "online" I wasn't as shy because I felt isolated from the other people or something along those lines.
I would say in games or places where I interact socially with others.. I am not very different than I am offline.
Here on these forums I am little bit different.. but in the sense I join the debate and get carried away at times. Outside of here I wouldn't bother to debate... just occasionally nod my head as someone else rambles on.
So I do pretty much agree with you on this.
I've seen people do some pretty twisted things online... or at least things that hurt people they claim to care about. I've never been that different online so for me its almost impossible to imagine other people are different in real life. So when I see someone do certain things... I believe they would do exactly that... or at least want to do them.
To the OP in general.. I don't have any need to see someones age. All I want is an account ignore option... and there are a few other things I would like that could be part of that same system. It should be a pretty simple tool and there is no reason I shouldn't be able to have it...

The more you hype an upcoming game in your mind, the more it will fail to meet your expectations. |

... This would make Goldshire hookups even more awkward. Add it. |

Originally posted by k-damage To be honest, it's not only the age group you've specified that doesn't understand how businesses work and the financials behind business decisions. After several years studying finance and doing two placements one corporate finance and the other investments, I can spot people who don't have a clue about finance from a mile away. And there's a lot of them on these forums. Other than that I don't see how your idea can be implemented. Everyone can easily make up their age. |

Maybe someone already mentioned: An intelligent kid can understand tons of concepts and ideas, and will apply it more and more to his life exerpience as he gets older. You're problem is that you're trying to have a debate with someone who is not intelligent (read: dumb), and age won't make a difference. Un-intelligent kids will grow up to be un-intelligent adults.
I mean, if you are so experienced and intelligent, you would also know this :P |

Before throwing stones about age and maturity, I think it's only fair to point out that we're all sitting here passionately arguing over video games. |

Originally posted by k-damage Many people do not consider a 25-30 year old to be an adult. I would argue there is very little difference in maturity between a 15 year old and a 25 year old except that the 25 year old is louder and more obnoxious. There is a much bigger developement in maturity between 25 years old and a 35 year old adult than between 15 and 25. Maturity is often described as the development of empathy. Being able to undertsand others is something young people simply lack as they are almost always are self centered and caught up in their own internal self centered dramas. 25-30 year olds are simply very seld centered and all about themselves and bringing attention to themselves. It is not until some where in the 30's or maybe 40's where they start to calm down enough where they can look past themselves. The lack of ability to look beyond themselves, along with a lack of understanfing of others and a general lack of knowledge is why its so diffciult to have a conversation with a 25-30 year old that involves anything other than what is going on in their individual lives. You can see it here on these boards as they make silly emotional post after silly emotional post which are almost always soley about validating their own self rather than about any actual discussion. IMO the world would be a better place if children were not allowed to use the internet, drive or use a cell phone unsuprvised until at least the age of 30. This is not to say that there are exceptions. There are many 25 year olds that are quite intelligent and mature and many 40 year olds just the reverse. But in regards to the spirit of the OPs post it would be much nicer if the board could be divided into adult and childrens sections and have a 1-35 area and a 35+ area for rants and discussions. |

There is no garantee that the age is correct. But I would love to see this happen if there was a system that could garantee the age is valid. It's just a natural desire I guess. In real life you can see people's face and somewhat guess the age range. Problem in mmo's is that the range is like 12-60 or something. So yeah why not, I think it would save people's time, energy and A LOT of drama. People would show more patience to each other. Not that I like to argue in game, but it happened occasionally, and I know I would never argue with a kid.
And another thing, old people may not be able to hide behind their anonymousity anymore and would be forced to act like adults. |
