I think the secrecy is that they are testing to see what they can get away with. If indeed they were not introducing anything controversial why hide it . Just come right out and reveal the items they are seeing what hullabaloo is all about and wondering how damaging or not it is. Uploaded with ImageShack.us |

Originally posted by Unlight pretty much, not happy about the mystic keys either. But the rest is nothing but convience items. I do worry about the slippery slope this is going down with the whole industy, so it's not just an issue with GW2 when it comes to the cash shop concept. Extra bags, mobile banks, xp boosts are nothing but making it easier to level. But the whole nickle and dime crap doesannoy me. But the in your face, this chest drop requires cash to open, that makes me not want to play. But yes, the loot bags = human exploitation. Gambling addiction has ruined many people's lives, and they were counting on that behavior to make an easy buck. |

Some people are keeping their blinkers firmly attached to their eyes. They cant test the cash shop if they keep the items they intend to put in out of view of prospecting buyers of GW2, better to reveal what they are thinking of putting in the cash shop and work of the reaction from there. Keeping it all hush hush isnt going to do them any favours. Anet have got to be careful here, if they start putting items in that really does give an edge then they will lose any money I intended to spend and probably more from other players. If they keep it cosmetic as they said they would then they have a better chance of making more money as more players would find that more acceptable and will keep my custom.
@Ambros be a fan of Anet as much as you want, but dont be blinded by your own fanboism, keep an open mind and think outside the box. I'm not against the cash shop, my concerns are over on how far they will go with it. My concerns are justified, especially when they want it hushed up. ![]() My XIVPad: |

Originally posted by Requiamer Convenience stuff like xp boost is fine by me, since you get deleveled to the level of a zone anyway. Cosmetic is fine also. However, if what Requiamer is true, that is an actual in game advantage, in PvP, where it counts the most. That would take into P2W territiory. |

Originally posted by biggarfoot TBH I kinda believe it is exactly what they're doing. GW2Guru is one of the communities most closely associated with Anet, to the point where they're considered right now as the unoficially official forums for the game and where devs post regularly.. and they got a strict rule (asked by Anet) to not allow any NDA leaks to be posted there, which they're complying... but they allowed the thread of the cash shop contents to stay (the official excuse is that the thread was posted before both the closed beta started and the no NDA content rule was put in place). From that, and the TB comments I talked about in other post, I have a feeling they intentionally leaked the contents to judge fan's reactions in the first place. If they release them oficially, then it looks like something they intend to keep, while if it's leaked, they might change it and claim it was just an iteration of what they were doing at the moment and that never intended it to be final. That said, personally I don't see anything so bad with the leaked iteration, so still intend to pre-purchase on april 10th.. :) What can men do against such reckless hate? |

Originally posted by biggarfoot The thing is it's mainly the haters that aren't keeping an open mind and going nuts about it. Furthermore as far as we know this is the first time the CS has been made available ingame. This is to actually test the system not to see which items will go in it. You don't fill a room with furniture before the walls are even up. They will no doubt work out the items when they are satisfied with CS' performance. People have also stated CS items, like the key, can drop ingame as well. So people can obtain them without using the CS Also I'm sure I read an interview some months back that stated they would sell convienance items, which is what I always expected. Sadly I wasn't able to find that interview, because google is mainly filles with the last blog about the CS. I will wait with judging the CS until I see it with my own eyes and my biggest concern won't even be addressable, because for that the game would need to be live, which is the impact on the economy. |

I was eagerly awaiting gw2 now with these cash shop announcements I will not even be buying the box. It's been said countless times but here it is again. cash shop = Pay to Win very simple: I buy $1000 worth of cash shop "diamonds" I sell them to other players for ingame gold I now have enough gold to buy the best weapons/armor/statbonuses/enchants/food/potions/whatever this took me about 20 minutes to do from entering credit card info to reselling "diamonds for ingame gold" I just paid to win The diamonds have already been talked about and will be in the cash shop ready for baddies to spend hundreds and thousands on to instantly have the best char. possible. So long gw2 you were a nice dream if only for a moment. |

Gear for stats is easy to come by from multiple sources, PvE, crafting, PvP, etc. and the power curve is very shallow. You will easily "max out" your gear in terms of power/stats. I'll say it again - this is not World of Warcraft. Gear works differently and has a different purpose. This game is not gear > all like just about every MMO released from 2004 till now. Originally posted by biggarfoot Ohh I keep an open mind, at least try to. Fanboism or not I have yet to see anyone present a reasonable arguement against the cash shop. Everything can be summed up ass... "Ohhh do I smell cash shop?!?!? FAIL FAIL FAIL!!!!" ignorance. I play DDO so compared to their's ANets cash shop is a blessing. Everthing is convinience or time efficiency items. There is absolutely nothing that is a P2W item. And the whole loot bags? Well name an item in WoW that was a world drop that was OMG OMG OMG!!!! |

By this example then wouldn't EVE and TERA be P2W since you can buy PLEX/Chronoscrolls with real money and sell it for in game gold. |

Does it even matter? When you go in to do the PvP your bumped up to level 80, given level 80 appropriate gear and skills and allowed to set your bars before entering battle. Baddies will be baddies but everyones going to be on even footing gear/level/skills wise regardless.
Spend $1000 on gems and sell them to get all the gold you want when it gets you no advantage you can then go whine on the forums. |
