i don't see why housing (instanced) is such a big deal, sure it's nice, but not needed imo. Housing ala arch age however is awesome, because you can create entire cities made by people alone. But this is something we wont be seeing in GW2. So really i find everything outside the playing instance much more important. |

i don't understand the whole "i don't like it and wont use it so its time wasted by devs". I could say that for tons of different mechanics. I don't like Raiding so its a waste of time for devs to work on it I don't Craft so its a waste of time for devs to work on it. .....
and im sure others could say the same thing about PVP (and i know in some games they have)
heres a clue and you don't even have to buy it, people like different things than you and some people really enjoy personal housing (whether it be instanced or not) look at EQ2 they have housing rating systems and all that. everytime a new MMO comes out thats one of the first thing players ask for.
so just because you don't use housing or don't like housing, it does NOT mean its a waste of time by the devs. and mind you I don't usually do the whole player housing thing myself. |

Originally posted by Lord.Bachus Safe to assume you never played EQ2 then. They did personal housing and Guild Halls right. Going around checking out other peoples homes is pretty cool, there is a rating system and all. Some of the crafters have made some amazing house decorations that displays adventuring trophies and crafting skill. It is a nice alternative and makes for a nice side-game to avoid the grind. |

The only game i found player housing was Runescape which i spent alot of time working on when i played a long time ago but if GW2 has player housing i'm hoping it will be alot more fun. |

I meant it would great to have plots like vanguard in the home instance that you could choose from etc and then build it like Vanguard. Thought that was implied by my inclusion of it. :) |

It's one thing to start out as a wandering hero for hire (in other words, a bum), it's another thing to play for six months, be able to craft all the high end gear, slap dragons around, and buy up all the best armor on the Auction house yet still be homeless. |

Originally posted by Nevulus Yep, EQ2 probably has the best housing in the MMO genre. There is a whole forum on the EQ2 site for people to show off their homes, people go visit them across servers and everything: http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/forums/show.m?forum_id=2487 A nice example of some cool housing someone worked on: http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/posts/list.m?topic_id=516199 |

Originally posted by Cromica Not to point out the obvious here, but wtf do you do for pve in this game? This is ussually the excuse people use when the game has instanced raiding as end game. wtf are the pve devs doing in this game? making more 5 mans that 20+ man guilds will look at and go ummmmm kkkkkkk
This game is weak on the pve side and I will say it until I am blue in the face. This kind of stuff is what it needs. |

Individual housing feels very isolated. I found it very time wasteful in SWTOR as it took a good 3 to 5 minutes to walk back and forth between your ship and a starbase. Housing doesnt seem all that important, my experiences have led me to believe its a place in mmos to isolate yourself, something guild wars 2 is trying not to do. You can replace the functions people like with housing with things that are more practicale and conducent to community. 1. The ability to set up trading shops in the trading post. For instance you have your own store ranked on proximity the player is currently to hte option shop. Maybe even setting up a shops according to guild. 2. Crafting areas work better when people can trade, share and build with others. 3. Make awards viewable in the hero menu when u are clicked on. |

In star wars galaxies there was various reasons to bring people home first of all it was a roleplaying game so for roleplay we went to eachothers houses to socialize, craft or simply just hang out or train in dancing or music or even combat. And it also servers as a private place where you can chat without any botherings of other players.. Ofcourse it also functions as a place to put throphies or memorabilias from adventures, or just as a storage for the items you want to save, but can be used for so much other things and I know that not all wants that or enjoy it even but I did and I know alot of others did to. Sometimes you log in to a game but you dont really wanna do combat, in swg there was alot of options that didnt evolve around combat. These days its all combat, combat or combat what do you choose? cake or death? kill kill kill die die die there is not so much to choose really. For me an mmo(rpg) is more than just a numbers game where its all about getting the best and highest numbers possible in the right purple colors too. Its not so much about the adventure or your characters story. In swg you made your own adventure and story and you could back it up and live it through.. There is not many others where you can do that really. My druid in wow have no function in the game world what so ever. I played a dancer and a crafter for 6 years in that game and its non combat proffesions more or less and my character had a place in the game world, she lived there, worked and had a function a meaning so to speak, atleast for some. she had friends and a pseudo virtual life that meant something to me atleast. It meant something, today it feels like it dosent mean anything its just about to stand around in prancing pony or in stormwind or ogrimmar or where ever you are standing and looking cool.. Most games I have tryed lately AoC, Lotro, wow, tera, gw, cwa, fallen earth and lately swtor and alot of others they feel shallow, generic and lifeless! There is no spark, no spice to bring life and color to the game world. All they need to invent now for the circle to be complete is an auto play button so your character can raid or grind purple gear while you are on work and when you come home all you have to do is place your character in stormwind and look cool and then watch telly. But housing can make your character come to life in a certain kinda way because it can give you the options for private space for events or roleplay, decoration or storage it offers alot of possibilities for your game and character. Its a great addition if it could fit into the game world. Not sure world of tanks need player housing hehe. |
