MMORPGs are no longer about the mass multi-user anymore *sadly* |

Originally posted by Master10K Just saw the otice on FB. Can't blame them to step up and enforce the NDA. Too many developers let it breached, and it's there for a reason... Loosing access to ALL ANet games (all 2...) sounds harsh, but I think it's the only way to remind ppl that they did agree with the NDA. GW2 is still in closed beta. The NDA will drop in the open beta weekends starting next month. |

Originally posted by RefMinor That is not a good thing, shows fear, look at ArcheAge, it has no NDA! users can post videos of their own personal gameplay online, having an NDA shows a lack of confidence in your product. This is an absolutely ludicrous thing to say. The game is unfinished. Unforntunately people will post unfinished things online as if they are game problems and this can cause others to get the wrong idea about the game while they are doing rersearch. It's ok if games like ArchAge don't mind this. That is their decision to make. Hell, they don't even have a Western publisher yet, and if they ever have one it's going to be a niche game anyway. However, this doesn't mean that all game companies want to risk their game's reputation online while it is in an unfinished state. |

Originally posted by RefMinor It shows an understanding of the community. With the jumping to conclusions in both support and against of the cash shop with what little info they have it would be pure chaos if they didnt have an NDA. Even worse then it is now. |

Not having a pop at GW2 but an extended NDA or lack of meaningful information can tell you a lot.
It was telling the Bioware didnt drop the SWTOR NDA until virtually the last minute. See what they were trying to hide now?

Again, there won't be an NDA once the open beta weekends start. Good lord people, take your tin foil hats off. |

Originally posted by Beachcomber Bioware also didn't show key features like Guild Systems & Ilum and look at how that turned out. At least ArenaNet is showing all the features... including it's WvW (search youtube). They are just not letting those few random players show off unfinished stuff until after April 10th. |

As some people have stated why would arena net risk showing the public unfinished content, Once people are turned away for a bad reason its far more difficult to get them back. Better to play it safe than sorry and show off the stuff that is finished and will be playable as is at launch. (i know constant adjustments are being made) |

This isn't EA's SWTOR. The NDA isn't to hide anything bad (eg, Ilum's inability to have more than two people on it, the dead worlds, the broken interface and mechanics.) Unlike EA, ArenaNet has been showing us this game the whole time. The NDA makes sense for a game that is trying to change the paradigm. Naturally, ArenaNet doesn't want other developers to see its hand right away.
Blizzard is already stealing ideas from ArenaNet's dynamic events system for MoP. Re: SWTOR "Remember, remember - Kakk says 'December.'" |

Reason for NDA is obvious, you don't want terrible reviews of unfinished content to scare people away from buying your game. The more money a studio has the more development it can put into a game, as such it is not surprising to see Blizz, a company that polishes everything to the next level because they can affort it, to have less stringent NDA's, while other companies may have stricter rules for enforcing NDA's until closer to release. Until it releases it's their game so they can decide what to do with it in their own way, making wild assumptions based on the NDA being lifted or not is not smart. I have tested several betas and pre ordered lots of games, sadly all the games I play for years on end are not in that category, I guess the really wise thing to do is to give a new game 3-6 months to develop and then try it out for fun if the real reviews without any hype are good. It also has to do with your play schedule, when SWTOR came out I was having fun playing some other game so I made the right decision and didn't jump into that bandwagon, now with GW2 I am a bit more bored from what I am currently playing so I am letting myself get carried by this train, let's see where it takes me... Also SWTOR was PVE and GW2 is PVP, I tend to favour the latter :) |

Originally posted by Kakkzooka I doubt the 3 weeks will make too much difference with regards to industrial espionage, especially as all the major houses will have their own people in the closed beta. It's simply fear, as someone said earlier probably with the cash shop controversy they are scared of losing control of the story. Originally posted by Kakkzooka I don't think it's about letting other developers see their hand... they've been showing enough videos (both from conventions and the press beta events) that other than the main city of asura and sylvari there isn't much still hidden (well, the item store but everyone saw it from the leaked pics already). If I had to quess it's mostly because of things that aren't finished yet and still working on, and things that might be unbalanced/annoying/broken when you get several players in the game (which is, after all, the point of a beta test, not a chance to play for free) BTW... am I the only one that wants that hammer guy to be added as a model to appear in the game a whack away people that are banned in a very public way?... :) After all, this is what happens in GW1 if you get the ban hammer.. :) What can men do against such reckless hate? |

Originally posted by expresso Any problems in a new game, even in beta - especially one hyped as much as GW2- will cause people to overreact and bitch and moan because things are supposed to be 100% perfect months, if not YEARS before release in their minds. Funny, on this site, with the most cynical MMO players around, that this question even needed to be asked. As with WoW, it's been out long enough that people know what's up, so they don't have to worry about it so much. |

NDA officially dorps on Monday for the press I believe. Word is that the game is still a bit iffy. Hopefully they fix the major issues by Sunday so everyone can experience a full day of satisfying gaming. |
