@Zippy if you can't see further than boobs and gore in AoC environment, maybe its your own issue. Blade and mace combat wasn't quite pretty, heads and limbs were chopped and blood spilled. Better have a gore image of that than clean animations of a body just falling to the ground, to give a little extra depth. Many ancient societies were brutal, rude, dirty; ppl were impaled, burned to death, chopped, quartered, hanged, just to mention some of the horrors. This is where AoC is situated (with morr phantasy ofc).

Boobs? Do you really believe someone plays AoC to see boobs?

You were in AoC and had a bad start? I understand the rage. However I dont understand the antiFC campaign.

I look at TSW with caution, but my serious hope is that we will have a finished game at release.

No Dragons? They removed the third faction? :P

But it's not impossible to see some dragons in TSW because of their mythological background.

BTW.

It's not about beating other games or which game has more success. It's all about the variety(the more, the merrier).

And you're right, who really enjoyed Skyrim, Kingdom of Amalur, The Witcher, etc..

@Zippy. AoC is rated Mature content 18 years.

18 years old is a child. But we may  have different ideas of maturity.  One poster here once gave a very good definition of maturity.  A 25 year old may think maturity is looking at boobs, profanaity and the abilty to be offensive to other people while an adult thinks maturity is the thought that maybe its better to consider other peoples feelings and not be offensive.  In other words maturity is empathy.  Physilogically a males brain does not full develop where they can develop and understand empathy until at least age 25.

AOC was an immature game with immature themes targeted towards a young adolescent audience.  It emphasized nudity, gore, blood and profanity over substance and thought.  It was directed at younger one dimensional brains and young peoples hormones. It used a simplistic follow the arrow combat system taht required no thought.  It completely lacked in substance and content but was high in eye candy and flash.  It was a game made for box sales and targetted towards an audience that would not have the attention span to play a MMO longer than a month or two.

Prior to release Funcom lied to the beta testers and to the genral public saying that the release verion was months ahead of the beta build and contained all kinds of improvements including high level zones full of content and features that would not exiist for 6+ months.  They knew the ship was going down and tried to maximize their box sales by lies and deception (limiting open beta to level 13) all the time knowing they game had no long term future.

Prior to releasing AoC Funcom said they learned from AO's release and would not do the same to us again.  Now they are telling us hey we learned from AoC's release and believe us we won't screw you over again.  All they have learned is that lying and deception makes them money.

Guys with mentality like yours is the reason why we can't have mature games. AoC is listed as M, hense only adults are meat to play it. Same as Tera. Same as possibly TSW. If you see a child playing that game, then you should report him, as he/she is clearly not meant to be playing M rated games. I won't go into bad parenting, because it's a big discussion and will derail the thread even further than what we do now.

But let me give you an example of how ridiculous your claim that M rated games are meant for children is:

So, lets say you go to a theatre that shows porn movies. Children are obviously not allowed, there are signs everywhere. Cashier only gets money from adults. The guy at the door prevents people not of the right age group to enter.

So you pick some pop corn and sit down. Movie starts. Two rows down you notice a child watching the movie as well.

  • Reaction A: You stand up and start shouting: "You perverts, how can you possibly watch that filthy movie in the presence of a child. All of you, get out of here, and you, stop showing that movie right away and put something kiddy appropriate".
  • Reaction B: You stand up, go to the child and say "You little prick, how did you manage to get in here?" Then you grab it by the ear and shove it out.

Now, when I watch people giving me reaction A while I'm playing my clearly labelled M rated games, I can't help but question the sanity of those people.

I'd like to get my hopes up for this one, but the fact that it's Funcom is just as terrible as if it were SOE.

I can assure you, there will be an uproar when it's revealed that the cash shop is P2W. Yes, I understand that it hasn't been revealed and noone knows what is in it yet.

But there are 2 reasons why I am certain of this.

1. Funcom has lied about what they will do in their Cash Shop before (I linked to their lie and back peddle yesterday)

2. More importanly, Because they had time to play with Cash Shops in other games. FunCom has leaned that they simply can.....they just can. Oh, players will bitch. Hell players will kick up a shit storm. Nothing new to FunCom. Some may even leave. But those are acceptable losses. Because most of the sheep will settle down and then Most of the people who say "I don't have to pay a dime" will end up buying into the P2W scheme and becoming regular CS users.

They have done it in both their other games.

It stands to reason that if something is in FunCom's best interest. And that Funcom CAN do it.....well. It's not rocket science.

There is going to be more uproar for the self proclaimed saints of the mmorpg genre (Anet) than the good thinkers but bad implementors (Funcom) if the cash shop ends up to be what you describe it.

Besides, the game is P2P, so you can actually vote with your wallet if you don't like it and they have a measure of your dislike. The only way to measure that in a F2P game is if you just disappear. And I think that the subscription money is something very much desired, although they start to become less and less the sole source of income for mmorpgs.

You can show your disappointment in f2p by not using cash shop or not buying expansions (in the case of b2p). And you can keep playing the game. The company won't get any money from you. In the case of p2p with cash shop you can stop paying the sub but then you can't play the game. So your argument is strange.

The potential playerbase also has to be willing to do this.

To date, they haven't. This game would otherwise have been my choice over anything else in recent/soon to be releases.

It certainly looks like something new enought to be worth a Box+Sub.

But CS is a deal breaker. And until the majority of games do exactly what you said, these developers ar just going to continue on with this nonsense.

Welcom to Gen3 of MMORPGs Progression has gone from Sandbox-world building, to themepark-character building, to microtransaction-who cares about buildng anything now?

It's a bit more complicated than that. You can opt to never use the cash shop game and still generate income for the F2P company by being there and playing the game and hanging around with other people, who may be more willing to spend money. You making the game more fun than others generates income for the F2P companies, even if yourself never buy anything.

Isn't it a bit very much inspired by GW1/GW2 ?

I think in several interviews they referred to Magic the Gathering and sortlike card games, so it looks like they used mechanics that were common in Magic The Gathering as inspirational source. There are worse sources of inspiration to get ideas for mechanics from, I still think MtG is one of the best card games around, and a stroke of genius of the group that started with it.

So since there are no levels, how would you know when a monster is too strong for your current talents and skills?

How would you know when it's better to avoid the battle rather than just try and die?

the monsters are rated with 1-5 skulls near their name, 5 skulls being the strongest in the game, you don't have levels, but in early game, you get stronger by getting better gear... as the game progresses, gear stop getting better and start getting more specific so you can be more specialized in the way you want to play.

so, you start playing the game, and just like any level based game, you defeat stronger foes by just getting better gear... but after a time, the only way to get stronger is making builds (with the very specific gear you get/craft) to counter the current environment you are in.

you can already find 4+ skulls monsters in the first zone (solomon island), and you can find 2- skulls monsters in the last zone (transylvania), so you can play any zone anytime, but you can't do all the content in the zone if you are not strong enough.

Really? This game's graphics will be at least as good as the graphics in Age of Conan, which still to this day has amongst the best quality graphics in the mmo genre.

If you understand game development and betas, then you should also understand that during development and closed beta, the graphics (textures, shaders, shadows, etc) are almost always turned down and don't usually get increased until open beta. Also, annimations of abilities can often be merely place-holder annimations, and the actual and varied ones may not be seen until a later stage of beta.

As to "...dead, lifeless world..." we saw very little of the open world in that video, so how can you judge? The opening bit is instanced and an intro. The Viking/Mayan bit was an instanced dungeon. The Transylvanian part we saw was limited to rooftops, and how many people/creatures do you expect to be hanging out on every rooftop? In the CDC bit, there were a bunch of creatures/baddies roaming around down in the swamp.

So I'm not seeing how you're justifying calling it a dead, lifeless world when we've seen only a fraction of the game world.

I guess what I'm saying is, that it's premature to pass judgement on a game based on a video that is very narrowly focused in what it is revealing, especially when the game is still in closed beta.

Lol, get youre info right  darkrain21,  TSW will have a cashshop, its infact designed to have a cashshop from the start. selling you all the cool and hip cloths and gear while leaving the mundane in the loot tables.

tsw=buy box to gain acces to a account were you then can pay per month so you get the acces to the shop ingame were you can buy apearance items.

its the one thing that makes me compleetly ignore tsw, super cash milking.

I think it's safe to assume you feel strongly against cash shops. It's ok. You have the option to pass on this game and look for something to suit your playing style.

Cash shop will cause an uproar when/if it's revealed it contains P2W items ?

Only among people with your mentality lol.

To me, cash shops ( P2W or not) mean more options in my gaming, and I'm always willing to spend money in my favorite hobby, supporting the developers who provide the entertaiinment I'm looking for.

Anyway, I'm pretty sure there are plenty of options for gamers out there. Just find the game that is right for you, but keep in mind the "evil" cash shops will exist as long as there are enough people willing to spend money on them, and trust me, there are plenty of customers out there willing to pay for more options when it comes to entertainment.

I, for one, say "Funcom, bring it on ! ", I am ready with my wallet lol.

Have a nice day everyone.

Its a hybrid set up between GW1 and Spellborn.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pKmCx5c5-iY&feature=related

I played both and the new system being used by new games coming out is based on that paradigm. With GW2 going a  more pvp direction and the opposite for Secret world. The new Final Fantasy went the same route, or tried to and and 38 studios mmo project is also more action and skill based. Its probably going to be the new standard for a few years.
