This game is going to be better than that over-hype garbage Tera Online. That or ArcheAge Online/Blade and Soul. EME itself is trying to hide the game's asian mmo stuff which is an automatic fail in my book. Defiantly looking towards games that have more content then a publisher determined to give it's paying customers as little as possible while pretending to be a WoW killer. |

Cash shop or not, I'll be playing it. I have been waiting for something like it for a long time now. |

I liked MMOs better when gamers didn't play them, and just geeks did. |

For all those that have been looking forward to this game for a long time, much like myself, I present to you this dream killer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TBSUgKbKaWs
If you can get past the horrid animations and dead, lifeless world, then more power to you. I'm not sure I can.

Originally posted by remyburke I actually found this interesting. I thought the animations were good. The concepts look good. But my issues are in the revenue model and how it will impact the game itself. |

It's nieve to assume that this game is going to be the second coming of jesus, and it's also very nieve to assume that this game will not be Pay2Win after a few months to a year. Funcom can do whatever they like, and from a Buisness point of veiw it is a good possibility that it may in the future. Firstly, Secret World is developered with the Dreamworld Engine. The same engine that Age of Conan was developed with. That meaning the game is going to be instanced. Some gamers don't like instanced MMO's, and that will turn people off. Secondly, it has nothing too do with what company is making the game that determins if the game willbe good or not,. It has too do with the people who are working on it. Bioware made some great games, but that still dosn't mean they can make bad ones too or make poor marketing descisions. Or Blizzard that make great games and turn them into boring easy-mode MMO's for toddlers. Thirdly, there were about 70 people working on the project, in 2008 and some of them previously worked on development of Anarchy Online, Everquest 2, Dreamfall, and The Longest Journey. If you hype yourself over the new state of MMO's and come back and say you were ripped off because you pre-ordered it and paid over 100$ thinking the game was going to be good. You only have yourself to blame, not the company. |

This game does look very interesting to me. I came into MMOs through GW1 as my first game. One of the strong points of that game (IMHO) was the build system where you selected 8 skills from a choice of thousands and looked for the synergies between them. Later in the game with the 7-hero party, creating sets of builds which would work together proved very engaging and challenging. Not for everyone of course, but for my friends and I, it was an enjoyable part of the game. Now TSW looks to provide a similar, but more complex, system of 14 skills selected from a wide range, with no limits on the skills you can acquire and train up. I like the sound of the convenient tools to save builds and gear setups. So far so good. I'm a little concerned as to whether the implementation will live up the promise though. But for me, this won't be a problem. I've got SWTOR to last me for the next few months levelling a handful of chars to 50 and finishing the storylines, and by then GW2 will be out and occupyiing my time for a while. So hopefully, TSW will have time to come out and settle down - and if it does live up to the hype I'll definitely be playing it at some point, if not at launch. |

So ... - only 7 x2 abilities at a time - distributing skill points as stat boost for said abilities - abilities equipped depending on equipped weapon
Isn't it a bit very much inspired by GW1/GW2 ? ***** Before hitting that reply button, please READ the WHOLE thread you're about to post in ***** |

Originally posted by spaceport Well, the main difference is that with SW:TOR you were paying for world PvP without being there (among other things). Here you are forewarned that features are not going to be present, so if you wish to participate in the launch with the limited features, it will be an informed choice, rather than a con by the marketing department (and what happened with AoC launch). |

Originally posted by heartless For me too. Though I have really no experience with Funcom beyond AoC which I tried and did not like. I think the ideas behind this game are really very cool with the conspiracy theories etc. It would have been a really nice change from the run of the mill fantasy MMO's with dwarves, elves and magic wands BUT I guess my admiration for the game kind of ends there sadly. I do wish it luck and I'll keep my eye on it in future. |

I am really really looking forward to this game, and unlike other people on these forums, I have nothing against Funcom. On the contrary, I am currently subbed to AoC and still consider it one of the best MMOs out there. I don't have any problems with cash shops either, with or without P2W items lol. So hopefully I'll get an invite to beta before it goes live, but in any case, I'll be there on June 19th. Go Dragons !

I love the innovative features that TSW intend to have as well as the unique storyline. I'm very tired of high fantasy mmorpgs and love the horror genre. TSW certainly seems like it will be the thinking man or womans mmo. Personally I prefer art style of TSW to that of Archeage, Tera, or GW/GW2. If you enjoy those others, more power to you but they are not for me. The drop of NDA and June can't come fast enough imo. |

Cannot wait any longer! This game looks awesome! Finally a game that is a "real life" modern day mmo. The lore is very intriguing. This will beat GW2 for sure! I mean, who really wants another game with dragons, talking animals and 20ft swords? |

So for the big issues here - PvP is shaping up nicely a second 100 player FvFvF persistant warzone is set to release soon after launch. FvFvF is a big bonus that's off setting some of the early limitations (people seem to forget how small 10 year old games were at launch). Balance - Will be a minor issue as long as a set of skills are not particularly broken. Flavor of the month will quickly have counter since building an alt, waiting for a patch or w/e isn't an issue here. You just change your skill set to counter the flavor of the month in short order. Cash Shop - Cosmetic Items only. Cash Shop items are not exclusives, they are all available as in game items through vendors, quests or acheivement rewards. Confirmed cash shop items are Clothing peices and additional save slots for Ability/Equip builds (default is 3) Failcom - AO and AOC are not the only products Funcom has, but they are the two that Guate lead during development. Guate no longer works for Funcom. Ragnar is new to MMOs but has a lot of fans for his work on Longest Journey and Dreamfall. Ragnar writes amazing stories, Funcoms designers knock it out of the park time and time again. Gaute is no longer around to set unrealistic time lines and make empty promises... WINNING! |
