The main reason I didn't install an SSD drive on my gaming rig was because I calculated that I need the 250GB+ models to fit in everything I usually play. Those things still not worth the cost yet (imho). Even for my work computer I purchased an 120GB drive and I still have a backup normal hard drive (like the OP). SSDs are still not big enough to complement a decent modern game library (especially when you buy exclusively digital like I do). |

I had heard the client would only be 30gigs or so on launch, 35 seems pretty huge. |

oh my god!!1
games grow bigger , exceptions are higher and technology evolve and SO is size of a game. you as gamer shouldnt have small hardrives now anyways everyone mostly have 1TB atleast so whats the problem really? just another tearless cry around one game.

Random troll to put TERA down ? To be honest any gaming computer has at least 500 Gb of storage nowadays, so unless you install 45 games and download 4892904 movies... no need to cry for 30 Gb |

Vanguard is 20. DCUO is 20. Everquest (all but Veil) is 9. WoW (all but MoP) is 29. (I may have some old files, this is from original Vanilla patched forward) Rift is 10 (but I haven't updated in a while). Eve is 10. AOC is 31. SWTOR is 20. LOTRO is 15. I show 23.6 for TERA, with the patch from today. Yes, SSD's are pricey. Sorry. Some other miscellaneous data Your 64G SSD isn't wasted, it holds the OS fine. It's just going to be a really, really tight fit. I would get another SSD - while RAID isn't a bad idea, I wouldn't RAID it, I would just install it and make it your E: drive or whatever your third drive is, and just install TERA (and any new games you get) there. RAID is all well and good, but it makes it harder to pop the drives out and put them in another computer. On seperate drives, when you upgrade computers or whatever, you just pop the drive out and pop it back in. |

i dont know why all the surprise at the client size, comparing to skyrim too, which probably had to be kept small in order for it to work on consoles, but, with PC games there arent such limitations, it wouldnt surprise me that in another 5 years, average installation of a AAA type of game is around 100 gb, HD space is cheap after all, and drives are now often sized by the TB.

120 gig and higher space ssds run circles around the small ones, and cost the same or are cheaper per gigabyte.
man up and buy a real hard drive son. |

Originally posted by Phry Actually your bigger problem will be your internet speed, not the hard drive size. Although at some point we could have cloud gaming I suppose. Originally posted by Lukain I love LOTRO, but the quality of the charactes is dreadful and the quality of the textures is bad when looked up and close. They do have probably the best visual world designers in the market though. Still, zooming all the way in and looking stellar still comes with a cost in hard drive space, a space that is cheap nowadays. |

Originally posted by Pivotelite I must admit I might have a few screenshots <blushes>, forgot to factor that in. Just checked my folder and I have 667mb of screenshots ^^ but what I did not expect was that I also downloaded C9 and that goes into the same Hangame folder as tera. So I actually have around 30gb for the tera folder. Originally posted by Xasapis There are load time elements in online games as well that would effect performance. Loading and displaying textures, models and certain skill effects can be effected by reading files on your PC faster. I've noticed when playing TERA and watching Youtube videos that the texture load is delayed slightly which can be kind of annoying. File size on HD's might be the reason for this on some systems. |

Originally posted by Pivotelite LOL, so I got up this morning and was at 21% and said it would take 7 days to complete the download. So I took your advice, turned off the P2P sharing and it immediately dropped down to 2 hrs 45 min. Thank you for the tip. Age of Conan and SWTOR are both over 20 gigs. I remember Vanguard being 26 gigs aswell or thereabouts. Tera has a LOT of high-res stuff - More than any other MMO out there (more than AoC i daresay), and that simply takes up room. That said, 30 gigs is nothing anymore. And a comment: There is absolutely 0 reason to install games on an SSD apart from a slightly faster initial loading time. There is 0 performance difference ingame between an SSD and a normal HD. Your SSD, especially such a small one, should only be used for your OS (Windows) and essential applications. Always try and keep 30-40% free so the performance doesn't degrade. 64GB SSD's are SMALL AS HELL. I'd avoid SSD's under 120 gigs tbh in the future. A typical Windows 7 install will use about 40-50 gigs depending on how much ram you have and what features you're using (system restore, sleep mode). Playing: EVE |
