Originally posted by Fozzik I'm not saying it's worthless. I'm saying it doesn't impact your actual playing of the game. There's a difference.
The biggest fear for most players in an RMT economy is that other players who use RMT will "beat" them, or be so much more superior to non-cash players that there's no point playing against them. And GW2 is going to have a strong pvp focus. Anet has repeatedly said that this will not be an issue.
Now, if I get your argument right, YOUR big upset with a cash shop is that You put in all your hard earned time and effort, and some kind with a credit card gets the same thing in 10 seconds flat and no effort at all. Seeing as how these are cosmetic items, YMMV. If you really tried hard to earn that shiny pimp hat for your Lion's Arch Bordello outfit, and someone else didn't put in any work but got it, I can understand you being annoyed by that. But you still earned your shiny hat. It's still shiny. It doesn't lessen the shininess of your hat, or the achievement of having earned it. The hat has whatever value you give it. And you can choose to enjoy it as much as you want. Now, it may be to you, your "carrot" in playing a game might be the sense of achievement for earning something difficult. And I can see the prospect of someone with a little money skipping that whole mess to get get the item right away as heavily upsetting. If that is the case, if the rush you get by earning the item means more to you than the item itself, then there's nothing I can say to you. This may just not be the game for you. |

How can you have your cake and eat it too? How can on one hand you say that what ever is available from the shop won't really have much impact on the game while on the other hand not have a completely lame game that has little to no point? |

Originally posted by Distopia Fair enough, but I don t take gaming as serious as some people I guess. I love gaming, I play alot of games, but I don t freak out over something we know really nothing about, and well games in general. |

Originally posted by Leucent It's exactly because we DO NOT have all the details. Honestly. How can people in this forum see the announcement of a cash shop and say "ALL WIN!"? When it really should be "To what degree is this a fail?" Hopefully to a lesser |

Originally posted by GeeTeeEffOh Depends on your definition of impact.
Convenience items like xp boosts save you a little time getting things. But someone else will get there without them, maybe just a few days slower. If time is your most valued currency, this impacts you. For many it will not.
Vanity items impact your looks. If how you look is more important than actually playing the game, cash shop vanity items impact you. For many it will not.
However, the items from what Anet has been saying, will not provide other players with any substantial increase in power to where a player with them can dominate pve/pvp content, and a player without them has no chance. Think (cause I haven't said this 15 times already) of League of Legends. Their cash shop conveys little to nothing that will impact whether you can fight effecitvely or (more importantly) if you and your team can work together to win. It's just stuff for fun. Also, in a similar fashion, it's possible to earn cash shop points by playing the game (albeit slower). So anyone can ahve those same items, some just get them faster. Reference my first point about time. |
