Nothing chapped my ass faster than getting stuck on pixels (I.e. a rock, a blade of grass, etc.) and syign due to it. Although thsi exists in EVERY MMORPG to date too. |

You had to use disarm and be quick at looting the item off the floor for that to work. Plus it was there for years and years. I used to play MMOs like you, but then I took an arrow to the knee. |

I would say transportation, coming from DAOC on hit on the space bar can really mess you up lol. Or going LD, it would kick you off the horse ugh.

As many of you have said there are more things I don't miss then I do. The most prominent one would have to be the linear nature of the old games. I love a world that you can go anywhere you want and do what you want and not be handicapped if you do that sort of exploration. Sandbox is the future. Being able to explore with no limitation is something mmo developers are starting to embrace. You would think this would have been something they used a long time ago but for some reason it was not introduced until faily recently on the scale that makes it fun and exciting. The very nature of humans beings is curiosity. Curiosity to figure out and find things they have never experienced. This kind of thinking allows the imagination to run wild and has become a vital part of what mmo comsumers are looking for. www.CeaselessGuild.com |

like someone else said ... waiting or downtime
I will not play a game where i spend more time waiting to play than actually playing, sorry I know that means to some old schoolers that I won't "earn" it but i don't give a crap. I go to work to earn a living and work I play games for entertainment and relaxation and i expect to be activily playing the game.
when i played EQ1 I was a no life loser so i had plenty of time for the nonsense the game offered as "features". |

I don't miss having fun. Trammies need to stop polluting the MMORPG landscape. They already have enough games in which to emote hugs and sell garbage by the banks. |

Explaining to my sister that using the telephone makes the internet go down? "I want to call my friend." "Well I'm playing a game." "So pause it." "You can't pause an online game!" |

I would say UI is the only thing i dont miss... UI is the only good thing to come out of modern MMOs.

Forced grouping and massive downtime are the two things from EQ that I never want to see again. Both are a balance though. I think MMOs have swung too far in the opposite direction now, in that soloing is the preferred method of leveling most of the time, and there is zero downtime (I think there should at least be a little). |

Longer grind. Little story overall. Spawn camping. Taking forever to get anything done. Downtime. Had a really slow connection speed to work with back in the day. :O I know you said one, but forget you, brah!

Spamming local (didn't even have a global chat at a time) WTS blah blah item with blah stats (couldn't link items) Really bland or poorly done level design Bad graphics that would show their age in no time Very little background story Some were unintuitive with controls or mechanics and lacked good tutorials Really boring quests with the most uninteresting story if they even had one. Almost every single quest was a kill quest. Stale combat and animations Seeing months go by without an update or patch |
