The Spirit Tales team has sent along a pretty informative little "info-graphic" that shows the odds of running into another character of the exact same look as compared to things like finding a 4-leaf clover or being struck by lightning. Now that's creative! Associate Editor: MMORPG.com |

Interesting number, id like to know why Olympic medal is so low on that list though. Does this game have armor recolor? |

Cute marketing, although the number isn't actually that impressive. If your character creator has 9 different tweakables (i.e hairstyle, hair colour, eye colour, eyebrow shape, makeup, facial expression, skin colour, height, tattoos/scars), each with 7 options, you got your 40M possible combinations right there. And that's before factoring in gender, race, clothing, or any in-game customization. A Modest Proposal for MMORPGs: |

Nice marketing. But the cynic in me thinks that in Spirit Tales it's possible to choose to be either a boy or a girl, and then from one of 20 million marginally different colors for your dress. |

It is cute marketting. What's more cute to me is how it is overlooked that in AAA MMO's likw SWTOR, everyone of a certain class will look exactly the same (armor not faces) And the variety of combined endgame armors would not even break 1000. But it is ok tto hate on F2P titles trying to put a spin on their loads of paid custom skins. While the masses pay 15/month to look exactly like the dude beside you. |

Originally posted by Clocksimus Not hating, nor would I ever try to justify the lack of variety among the AAA-family. Lack of variety is lack of variety, no matter how or how much is being paid for it, and as a whole the industry is pretty lame in that field. But having 7 different eyebrow angles does not, in my books, create grounds for claiming 7 times as many unique character choices. So I'm just offering my own 2c on a game's effort to actively market their game on the angle. And really, how often do you zoom in to check out the set of someone's eyebrows, or what colour their earrings are? It's just psychological fluff, or possibly RP-fodder. What you're left with from the character creator, that actually stands out immediately to an onlooker, generally boils down to race, gender and hair. And 9 times out of 10, the armor and weapon obscures those features too. A Modest Proposal for MMORPGs: |

There's 40 million happy ending, Asian "O" faces in there. |

"If your character creator has 9 different tweakables (i.e hairstyle, hair colour, eye colour, eyebrow shape, makeup, facial expression, skin colour, height, tattoos/scars), each with 7 options" and all but one of them ends up with you having a vagina on your head.......the chance of you seeing someone who looks just like you is much less than 40 million to 1. |

The problem isn't generally the lack of customization etc. It's the fact that most customization options are so slapped together and stupid that it ultimately brings down the real selection to a few. In SWTOR, the females had plenty of hairstyles to choose from. However, 10 out of 12 styles looked completely silly. So unless you wanted to look like a dufus with a mohawk and cinnamon buns taped to the side of your head, you only had a couple realistic styles to choose from. |
