Being an active MMORP-gamer, I loved the idea this website was established around when I first encountered it. It gives a holistic treatment of all the MMOs on the market and provides a forum with which gamers, such as myself, can voice their opinions concerning gaming, today. This community-creation has become significant to the point at which its agendas and discourses permeate throughout the gaming industry profoundly enough to affect the agendas of even major production companies. As such, its easily apparent that this website is, indeed, great in perpetuating - though, indirectly - high-quality gaming. But, as we all very well know, nothing is perfect. Although the negative facets of this website that I shall express my greivances of are very minor, they still degrade, to a lesser degree, the value this website maintains. Specifically: the pixel-level of avatars on their respective profiles is an enlarged, distorted menace that creates a seemingly dull, unprofessionally-made appearance on profiles; and, on this website's "Game List", there are a substantial number of non-MMORPGs including QuickHit Football (a poorly developed browser-based football simulator) and Sudden Attack (a Korean FPS recently now published by Nexon). Obviously, neither of these games are MMORPGs and yet, despite this website's title and true intentions, it still provides information of games irrelevant to that real purpose. MMORPGs constitute the heart of online-gaming, and, as such, I think this website should examine only MMORPGs and any game closely enough related to the genre (for instance, EVE Online). A brief list of irrelevant, non-MMORPGs listed on this website: -Ultimate Soccer Boss -QuickHit Football -Sudden Attack -Company of Heroes Online -... among several others... I wouldn't call it a grievance, but yes, the gamelist is next to useless. The funny thing is, when you look at the MMORPG.com homepage, there is a block listening 10 "Upcoming MMOs". All of the upcoming MMOs listed today are expected to release in 2011. :) I maintain this List of Sandbox MMORPGs. Please post or send PM for corrections and suggestions. |

Suggestions forum.
This site is bad but not exactly for the reasons you describe. They are minor compared to the real issues that plague Pub more than any board.
It won't be fixed, though, because the nature of forums is to complain. Consider: the happy gamer is off happily playing their favourite MMO, while the disgruntled and bored are spending their time here instead. |

I can agree witht he OP. Been on and off this site for years. Use to be the best sight to find a good quality mmorpg, was easy to see when new games were comming up and how current games were fairing. Id say within the last 2 years the sites become a hot mess. Just about any game it seems that involes MMO gets stashed here, including cell phone games, browser games, stragegy games...and just confusing entries. On top of that they add games and they dont even get a rating...sometimes for years. Use to be you could sort by hype (a rating system that never worked) and at least see if any new games popped up. Cant do that now, and its easy to lose a game you might be interested in when you check for it a week later.
With that said, ok i get it mmorpg.com is really MMO.com now, im fine with that. How about sections for browser games? Strategy? whatever you call those DOTA games? Sport mmos? sims? Also...how about a old game bin? Ok nice to see AC/AO/EQ/ect on the list but really theres no need for them up front and carrying their 15 year old hype rating keeping them up top. Its hard to make a suggestion other than how about we clean up this site and make it a bit easier to keep track of the games you like and be made aware when a new game that would intrest you appears. I hate wading through the 10 new browser games and non RPGs trying to figure out if the last 50 entries are anything that appeals to me. Really though, i wish mmorpg.com would go back to being mmorpg.com rather than MMO.com....theres a whole lot of people here that dont like the RPG games, and as much as i value their input on RPG's....i certainly dont go to sport game sites and suggest RPG aspects be put in place so that they kind of appeal to me. I see that happening a lot here now. People who dislike RPG principles upset over games that use RPG mechanics....i get where they come from i just dont get why they are here playing games they dont like...
Sorry for the rant...but perhaps this site needs to branch into sub sites for the people who like client RPG;s can find then games they like and discuss them with other people who are interested in similair games ect. Seemed to be the origional purpose of the site. If not feel free to PM me another site that does this. |

Khaeros, I agree with your assertion on forum functioning - after all, forums (online and elsewhere, for that matter) are where people present and bitch about their problems. Similarly, the real issue is whether or not the clowns that pervade places like "The Pub" can calm down and be a little constructive in their complaining.

I dislike how they are trying to push their other site (Or what I assume are their affiliate sites) onto us. Like RTS guru stories disguised as MMO articles or put where MMO stuff should have been. Other than that I think it's fine. |

Sorry, bro. I can't help clowning around. Just watch out if you try to post against one of those 'themeparks suck! new gamers suck!' threads. You might be considered a troll.
They have to plug their other sites because no one is on them. The forums there are absolutely barren, at least on RTSguru. What better place to advertise than on their own network, for a price they can't beat - free?
Plus, if you end up getting banned from MMORPG.com, you can still post on the other sites. Good news for people like me - and you, should you decide to live internet life on the edge and take a few vacations because you wrote a satirical post or put up a picture of a dumpster to describe a thread. |

If they remove all of the sites for which someone objects that it's not a real MMORPG, then there wouldn't be much left. You may be picking on games that are pretty far afield, but people can come up with pretty frivolous objections. I think the real issue is that some games are simply hard to classify. They've got RTSguru, FPSguru, and UnboundGamer. So sure, if a game is clearly an RTS, they could stick it on RTSguru and not MMORPG.com. But what about games that don't fit neatly into any category? For example, Spiral Knights is listed on this site, even though it really isn't an MMORPG. But it's definitely not a RTS or FPS game. It's a good game and an online game, so I don't think it would make sense to say, no genre-specific site should cover it at all. A major purpose of sites like this is to help gamers find games that they'll like, and ignoring good games doesn't fill that purpose very well. I'd argue that Spiral Knights is a lot closer to being an MMORPG than an RTS or FPS game, so listing it on this site makes sense. Of course, if the MMORPG.com network had a OnlineHackAndSlashGuru site, then sticking Spiral Knights there rather than here would make sense. Same for Vindictus, Diablo, and some others. But they don't have such a site, so putting such games here makes more sense than not covering them anywhere.

My only real grievance with mmorpg.com is with their awful forum post editor tool. |
