Originally posted by sinjin In a way, I kind of agree with you. I'm not knocking the game, i'll end up buying it, but for me it takes some of the better content of the better games out there, everyone is making a huge deal about !!! omg!!! open world pvp with castles and siege weapons?!?! yeah im doing that in DAoC as we speak, but it works, its effective, and that alone is the main reason why i will play GW2, its taking a little bit of my favorite aspect of my favorite game, 3 faction (in GW2 its not really 3 factions, but 3 teams) open world type pvp where a main objective is taking that gosh dang keep and advancing into enemy territory, im not bashing GW2 by any means, only thing i hope they do well is crafting, cause to me a good crafting game also gives a good player economy, which is why i still play DAoC, i HATE crafting, but other people like it and i will pay them a goooood amount to craft my temp for me. While I'm really looking forward to GW2; I think people are jumping the gun thinking it's going to be the next WoW. Will developers copy some elements? Sure they do that for nearly every MMO that doesn’t suck; but I think Arenanet is just hoping that GW2 does half as well as it's predecessor did This sword here at my side dont act the way it should |

Game developers are consciously trying to copy WoW's success, not that of EQ or some other game. In that, if they do something because WoW did it, it doesn't matter if it was Blizzard's original idea or something they stole from some other game. Still, it's not like they blindly copy everything from WoW. Game developers have at least been sharp enough not to copy WoW's disastrously awful server instability. |

Why people think EQ is what everything copied off is a mystery to me. Fact, Meridian 59 was the first subscription based MMORPG. The whole style of mmorpgs was based purely around 3DO's might and magic series and 3DO's meridian 59. EQ copied the crap out of it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=fvwp&NR=1&v=8x3JiS6EIz0 |

The hype on GW2 scares me....I'd be willing to guess that most of the people praising really know little or nothing about it and surely have not played it........ |

What is going on in this thread? Can we maybe at least play this game for 6 months before we decide it's time to erect an altar, get down on all 4s and start worshiping during 24hr candlelight vigils while singing Kum Ba Yah????? WOW! Just, WOW! This is getting scary........... or hilarious. I can't tell the difference anymore. |

To me GW2 is an improved and more advanced clone of all the past games I've loved. So more like the other games would be clones of the clone that was a clone of a combination of clones o.O I don't care if that made no sense, it did when it was in my head lol...

So this isn't about that upcoming rehash: Guild Wars episode 2: Attack of the Clones Betcha episode 3 involves Revenge of the Blizz. |

Surely hope not., MMOs have already de-evolved enough that we don't need anymore more action adventures claiming to be MMOs. Let's start calling these games what they are please! I also don't think GW2 is going to be that big after a few months time. |

Originally posted by Vannor I never played this game and yes graphically it looks similar to Everquest but wiki says this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meridian_59 Unlike many online RPGs, it is not based around character levels and classes. Instead, each individual skill and attribute, including health, develop independently of one another.
but otherwise I agree -- EQ stole most of it's ideas from MUDs and D&D
I think the only fresh idea Everquest brought to mmorpgs was raiding |

Originally posted by Starpower That's not entirely accurate. The point you're forgetting is time spent. If, hypothetically of course, a WoW player for example decides to go with GW2 due to it being sub-free and they can play along side WoW what would happen if they find that they're logging on to WoW less and less, missing raids then realize that they don't miss those raids, etc.?
There's a real chance that the game will begin to take up so much of a person's gaming time that they cancel other subs which are no longer being used. |
