Originally posted by Leethe You misunderstand what they mean by console standard gameplay. There are standards of quality in many different aspects ranging from gameplay to interface and feedback that MMOs cut corners on, copy from other games or just ignore altogether simply because they're too busy packing the game with more grinds to milk money from their subscribers. By adhering to console standards, we are delivered a game that is fun to play of it's own right, not because our friends are playing it or we're roflstomping teh noobz. |

Originally posted by sullivanj69 Im of the same opinion, 40k needs to have open pvp where no factions are permanently alligned and it's very likely it would have been good v evil or some obscure variation on this, same as WAR it wouldn't have worked and flipped a huge middle digit to the lore. |

Originally posted by Zinzan First, to sullivan, I have no idea where the assumption that we're going to be loaded up with grind quests comes from, as we've seen ABSOLUTELY NOTHING regarding what content will be like. It would be like me speculating that Titan is going to be a fully voiced non-combat encounter focused game. IE, being pulled completely out of my ass.
Secondly, to Zinzan, what do you think the global campaigns were? It has been stated, repeatedly, in no less than a dozen different threads, that Games Workshop has structured the various races of 40k into Order and Destruction factions which they will split along during conflicts which are big enough and have multiple races involved. Armageddon, Medusa V, the 13th Black Crusade, Lorn, all of which are Games Workshop sanctioned cases of temporary factions. These conflicts are not short skirmishes. They are prolonged campaigns that last for decades and revolve around assets (usually entire sub sectors) of vital importance to all those involved.
Now for the love of the Emperor and for the sake of all the rest of us that would rather the game not be vomitted all over before we even know anything substantial, shut up with the blind doom and gloom. |

No please no!!! Now, i have no other mmo's in mind. It might be the end for me. Well, i'm going back to console games and for PC starcraft 2, war 3 and BF3. I do not look forward to any other mmo's they're all failures in my eyes. Dark millinium could of been the one to take me back. C:\Users\FF\Desktop\spin move.gif |

Ya have fun taking that empire city when its got dwarfs elves and men defending it and you have 1 army.
Same with 40k, the races side up in giant conflicst because they have to and they arnt stupid. Apparently stating the truth in my sig is "trolling" |

Didnt i read that the game was going to be based very much on the Space Marine solo game? if so it's not a bad thing this got cancelled as it would of only dissapointed the real 40k fans. I played space marine and thought it had no depth whatsoever. it would have been more like warhammer with a 40k skin. I admit though i only gave space marine a day before i turned it of. I would hope someone takes this up and turns it into a real faction, v faction v faction game. |

Well since the THQ's Chief deny the rumors, the article have no valor. |

The game is going to have similarities to Space Marine (how could it not? They're using the same game engine) and that makes it Warhammer Online with a 40k skin?
There were 3 top complaints about Space Marine when it launched: Short campaign, mediocre writing/voice acting, and peer 2 peer multiplayer. You are the first person, of dozens of interviews, game previews and professional and amature reviews to say one bad thing about the combat of Space Marine. That was it's shining star, and is the only reason the game sold as many boxes as it did.
Now imagine that, with a seamless open world and RPG elements. That's DMO. |

Actually, Space Marine was on the Unreal Engine. DMO is using the Darksiders Engine. Both of which are amazing engines. Anyway, the only similarities from Space Marine and DMO is the over-the-shoulder shooting combat, which relic is helping to develop. Everything else Vigil is doing in-house, and with a little help from a chinese company whose name escapes me at this time. Anyway, we will find out in June, as that is when all the info of DMO is supposed to come to light at E3. A lot of people seem to think that if THQ dies, then DMO dies. Really, THQ is just the publisher. Vigil is the developer, and from all perspectives, these guys are in great shape. And say THQ does die and Vigil needs to get a new publisher, what game company wouldn't want to pick up the rights to the 40k game universe? As long as EA doesn't get it's grubby hands on it... I'd bank on Bethesda. Needing is Wanting... |

Originally posted by freakishbean It's not that simple, as Games Workshop owns the IP and simply licenses it to THQ. I'm not a lawyer, but my best guess would be that any company that wants to produce DMO would have to first buy Vigil, then negotiate IP rights with Games Workshop. Considering what they stand to gain from a successful 40k MMO, I'd imagine they'll try and make that part of the negotiations as painless as possible, but their legal team is notorious for botching good deals.
And because it has to be done... FUS RO BOX! |

It sounds like its been tossed on a back burner for now. |

"Back burner" is a relative term in the video game industry. Darksiders 2 is 3 months from launch, so it's definitely crunch time over there, and some of the DMO team might be working on the finishing touches.
I also wouldn't try and glean too much from the vigil website alone. Before blizzard consolidated all their games under battle.net, their company website was updated maybe once or twice a year, and never about a game that had yet to be released. Although, Vigils jobs section is significantly smaller than it was just recently, which means probably just had another round of hiring. |
