Keep in mind that people won't be paying monthly fees, so if diehard fans want to shell out $150 to have a Charr paperweight.. what's the big deal? They also are letting you get in with just the basic digital pre-purchase from what I can tell. What disturbs me, is that this might be the start of this mmo not breaking the mold, but slowly confoming into the mold. 3 day headstarts, Hero's band stat boosted item.... sigh, noticing a pattern here. The same pattern that many 'big title' MMOs have been following when they want to cash in from their marketing efforts and not the quality of their product. Don't get me wrong, I still have high hopes that GW2 does break the mold and that the product is an outstanding MMO, but seeing them market it the same way that other hotly anticpated titles were and seeing the same over the top press hype as another big name title... cough cough, SWTOR.... does have me getting more and more concerned. |

Sure I remember years ago people paying a ton of money for the colelctors edition of LOTR with the statue of Minas Tirth.
Fanboys will pay through the nose for stuff like that, and the net aint short of Guild Wars fanboys.

[mod edit] "A guy that played for 3 years in a conventional MMO at 15$ per month = 12 * 3 * 15 = 540 $" "A guy that played for 5 years in GW with all expensions paid 25$ per exp + game = 4 * 25 = 100$" "A guy that smokes cigarettes for 3 year with 2 packs at 5$ per week = 12 * 3 * 5 * 2 = 360 (and here in Canada its 8$)" Problem with money? Originally posted by Hedeon Okay, lets look at SWTOR for a moment. There statue came from the company Gentle Giants. Take a look at the prices on the Gentle Giant site. http://www.gentlegiantltd.com/Star_Wars_Collectibles_s/1.htm They also have Gallery Collection Voldemort Statue that go for $315. So the price really is reasonable considering who they have to get the items from. I dont know if GW2 is getting it from them, but I would assume so. And then there is pick that other GW2 package if you dont have the money or dont think its worth it. |

I'd be pissed if CE was getting a head start of 7 or so days. But, yea the price does not bother me. I would be bothered if the regular edition went more than $60. Guild Wars 2's 50 minutes game play video: |

Business seek to make profit. That is profitable. They aren't using you or abusing you. Atleast you dont have to p[ay 15 dollars a month for the rest of your life for it. Completely reasonable. http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/innovation |

It's as if Skyrim,COD,Kingdom(Something with cards and ish), Halo, and the list goes on, never existed.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ns-IIn-DG-c Try to argue this please. Oh also if you quote me and it's to argue my point, if I don't respond it means I haven't been corrected by you and/or I haven't seen it. Remember I don't mind admitting I am in the wrong. Take care :D |

I could careless about the $150 price for the CE. It's the £130 UK price that pisses me off. It simply doesn't add up; it should be £100 and then I'd be willing to get it, but us Europeans always get the short end of the stick. I'm hoping that some online retailer tries to sell it cheaper. Heck, I can order the TERA CE for just £50 if I want. |

I'd be shocked if the box price was more than 60$ because it is a AAA MMO without a sub fee. But it's not, so I'm not. Going to (hopefully) be one of the best deals in MMO gaming. Just like GW1 was/is (even though it was never my cup of tea)
I don't even want to think how much money I've spent on MMO subscription fees over the past 12 years. Yikes.

I always thought that people who bought CE were not all there. To me none of the stuff in a CE of a game is worth it. But a lot of people like it and they are willing to pay for it. No offence but I always thought that collecting game figurines, posters etc. is super geeky. Standard edition for me :D |

My best friend is getting the CE, he doesn't care about the price. It's standard edition for me though. The extra price tag is almost all frills, if people want to pay that much it's up to them, I'd only be disappointed if it gave lots of in-game advantages. ANet is just making their money back. no GW2 won't kill WoW, but it's time to move on and quit worrying about those people still playing it. - eyelolled |

So don't buy it? If you don't find the CE worth your money no one is forcing you to buy it. I would rather have the option of a good CE that GW2 seems to provide than a 100 dollar one with only a poster, CD and a artbook. In this one you get a figurine which are quite expensive to produce so what do you expect? You also get 112 pages of "The making of GW2" if I remember correctly. The thing that worries me is the actual ingame benefits of pre ordering any of the three. Is this buff on in PvP? If so, what happened to equal playing fields. |

Originally posted by Master10K That's why i asked earlier if it includes their sales tax. I believe most store prices over there don't include it in the advertised price whereas ours do. Even if it doesn't then it's still a silly difference in price as their tax is only 3 to 10% ish depending on the state. I'd never pay those kinda prices for a CE but it goes to show we must be mugs here in the UK. Always keep your words soft and sweet, just in case you have to eat them. |
