And yet strangely, OP all anecdotal evidence points in a different direction, I think your post will come back to haunt you.

I think the OP is trying to be sarcastic.

Yeah, he got me, but some of the debates I have had over the past few days with people defending wrong headed simple logic, have left me somewhat post-trigger-happy

Yeah, I hear you. I get that way too. So much negativity that eventually it's like the chinese water torture, wearing you away bit by bit.

Look, I bought the game and finished the content in the first month and never subscribed after that.  So believe me I'm no fanboy.  The PVP sucked although I did find their take on the story to be somewhat innovative.  I have mixed feelings on it.

But those that think EA is officially and blatantly lying to investors about a confirmable metric like that, are just plain idiotic or are too young to understand what it means to work for a public company.  Investors sue and executives go to jail for blatant lies about metrics to investors.  They lie sure, but only in more subtle and unprovable ways.  They don't say "As of this exact date this exact number of people are subscribing" when it isn't true.  If they did lie about this, then he will 100% get sued and possibly go to jail.

I really think the anti-SWTOR crowd is over-reaching on this one.  I am surprised at that metric, no doubt,  But I believe it if they formally announced it to investors.

People say the pvp sucked and I didnt do any world pvp... But huttball was the freaking awesome.

I hate to say it cause i don't want any company to fail but, aside from the fact that the march article says exactly the same thing as the original feb article, it's mathematically impossible to have the exact number of subscribers as before, they would have either gained or lost by now to show something other then 1.7 mil subs, subs fluctuate in every game ALL THE TIME. So what does this prove? This proves nothing, and it proves that articles written like this will capture people's imaginations about what's really happening behind the scenes. I can't really mention the source but there was an article about how a certain man in charge took alot of people over to a foreign country, you know where many companies outsource things, and he supposedly spent 500 million dollars a day putting them all up in a really great 5 star hotel for ten days, which was completely false too because months later another company put out the same article with the same numbers. Yeah the article you are presenting today is just like that, old out of date data that is touting as being modern.

They must think we're stupid or something. Well.... some are i suppose.

Okay well on second read it seems the OP might be attempting sarcasm and if so it's extremely subtle. Bravo if this is true!

For one, they didn't say they have EXACTLY the same number of subscribers.

Secondly, it's no less possible to have an extremely mild loss of retention than it is to see subs go up significantly or down.  It's a number, just like any other.

This statement is the exact same one that was made before. Almost verbatim which is slightly odd. So they experienced neither any growth or recession? How the fuck does that work? However, they do once again chime the majority line rather than specifics so...kind of hard to hold them to anything without specifics and simply using the majority schtick...again...with the exact same figure.

I'm going to hold out judgement one way or the other until I see their next quarter's results. I personally think regardless the article that there has been a drop in population but as I keep saying we'll see soon enough though. Certainly was a rather severe decline on the two servers I played on.

1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.

2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.

3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.

I find this incredibly hard to believe for some reason.  All MMOs dip in subs, EA stating they have zero loss does not seem credible.

It's quite easy to puzzle it out.  Contrary to the OPs claim that they lost 0 subscriptions, what is possible is that they reached a steady state.  They're loosing as many subs as they're gaining.

Which then fits into the Cowen prediction that overall growth might reach 2 million subs by the end of the year.  You'll have platuea's where sub numbers stabalize.

Uh yeah, if we were six months or a year out than I would buy this. I would probably be saying it myself. But considering the length of time we're talking about sorry I don't.

I think it more boils down to saying the majority of 1.7 million are subbed both times leaves an enormous amount of room for the numbers to have varied between when the exact same statement was made both times.

Yes I got the sarcasm, but still think there needs to be a "sarcasm font".

Currently bored with MMO's.

The Star Wars is dead .Long live the  Star Wars!

Good job EAware , you should be proud.

I will remember you from NVN , BG and 1.7.

LOL It's only because of all the morons that believed the lies and hype and paid for 3 or 6 month subscription packages. I have 5 friends that bought the 6 month even though I warned them and none of them are still playing.

Or almost any game that came out before wow. The "all MMOs drop in subs" phenomenon is only true for wow clones.

There is no way they even have a million subs.  The servers are all ghost towns.  Subs may be close to a million but the population is more likely close to 500k.

I'm also going to point out EVE online.

Some people seem to forget that there ARE MMOs which increase in numbers.  If SWTOR has reached a steady state, gaining as many subs as it's loosing, it could be following the path of WoW or EVE right now.

So why does it have to be 6 months to a year? Why that arbitrary time frame? Both WoW and EVE had rising average subscription numbers.  1.7m subscriptions for SWTOR could simply be that steady state before the climb.

2. exaggerated publicity; hoopla.
3. swindle, deception, or trick.

You have to have more than one-time content to keep people paying. Once the movies have been all played out there's little left to do.

Clearly, EA is a company that appreciates true talent and artistic vision in favor of bland mainstream garbage.

Their success is due to SWTOR's living, breathing world.  Oh, and Gabe Amatangelo's inspired vision and mastery of PvP combat.

Maybe put every word in its' own quotes?

"Suuuuure."  "Tera" "is" "going" "to" "be" "the" "next" "WoW" "success" "story".

Maybe we need an "air quotes" emoticon...
