I don't know, I used to be a Darkfall Fan boy when it hadn't come out yet. I was on the forums all the time, reading every thing about it constantly over and over for some unknown reason, and then finally getting to participate in beta. But then my laptop got stolen and I haven't played since. Now its been some years later, and I don't know if buying the game would be worth it. It still seems like it would be a lot of fun, being skill based and full pvp full loot, which is what I'm looking for. But, is there enough pvp on the North America server? And is it even worth buying, or should I go with something like Mortal Online. What are some good reasons to play DF versus MO, or MO versus DF. I hope theres some players on here that can help. Thanks |

Darkfall has gotten better since the beginning, but since darkfall 2 is coming out in Summer most people are waiting for that. |

Well...the population in Darkfall is pretty bad. I talked to a friend recently and he just told me not come back lol. He told me to wait for DF 2.0. There is a lot of talk about a wipe coming, mainly by players, no news from developers. AV is just atrocious though when it comes to communicating with players. I don't think the game has really been updated in a year because the devs are supposedly working on this DF 2.0. You can't take my word though, I haven't played in about six months, this is just what my friend, who is playing has told me.
It's hard to recommend MO as well. I am currently subbed to that game, although I haven't played in about three weeks. It's still extremely buggy, there is still not much else to do but craft and pvp. I never got into clans, I like the solo lone wolf style of play and that is very tough in MO. I could get by, but it's very hard without some support. The good thing about MO is that they are actively working on a new free patch, slated to come out this spring, that will update the AI, add a market/trade system, update the UI and the like. The patch will probably be bugged to all hell when it's released, but hopefully it will bring some nice stuff.
Really both are toss up. Fortunately there is a free trial for both. I recommend trying the trial before buying anything!

Well, my cousin told me that if you paid for Darkfall then you'll get DF 2.0 for free, so why not play until 2.0 comes out if its decent. Thats what I was thinking. |

As someone who has played both MO and Darkfall, Id say stick with Darkfall, much more fun, unique style, but it does have its downfall's that make MO look better. MO is more realist, in the WTF way, for example, it has very little explination, and a bunch of systems that just arent fun. And a bit confusing, but Darkfall is generally a safe bet, its fun, easy on the eyes, and doesnt take to much time to understand the basic's, and feels much more rewarding. Both MO and Darkfall have an expansion back on the uprising that promises many things. If i were you, id say go for Darkfall, its much more of a safe bet, the only compaint i have is the housing is to hard to obtain, and thats why it seemed like i liked MO in that sense, but MO has NO ship's, and thats a BIG NO NO. So Darkfall all the way, but if you want just wait it out until Darkfall 2.0, but if you cant wait, thats ok too, but right now in DF, if you dont grind a shit load and go Magic, or the other templates they have, you will be QQing a lot. But in the end Darkfall is still a lot of fun. |

Personally I have played both and recommend neither. Darkfall was good when it first came out and it was new. The world was fresh, the game was packed and the politics were insane. None of those apply now. MO IMHO is a prime example of a company that produced a great powerpoint about the game, but a horrendous game (and IMHO it's the shadiest company in the genre).
As someone above said though... there are free trials for both so why not go look for yourself. I would certainly advise doing so before giving EITHER company your money.
"I should point out that no other company has shipped out a beta on a disc before this." - Official Mortal Online Lead Community Moderator Starvault's reponse to criticism related to having a handful of players as the official "test" team for a supposed MMO: "We've just have another 10ish folk kind enough to voulenteer added tot the test team" (SIC) This explains much about the state of the game :-) |

Well, the only thing that sucks is that it will take a while before you have any decent skills in Darkfall. You are going to have to grind a lot just to be able to not die when a vet breathes on you. It wont matter if you are having fun and enjoying the game, because if you are having fun, nothing is a grind.....but it just sucks if they do end up wiping the characters and losing all the skills your played for.
Personally, even though I like the game, I am waiting until they give some more concrete news about what's going to happen.

I played both and choose MO. If MO wasn't around I would be playing DF. I actually like both. Mo is harder to get used to IMO, but is much deeper and more immersive in the end, at least for me. Right now in DF there is no skill cap and everyone creates the same kind of character, a fighterrangermage. In addition being good at pvp requires an extensive number of macros to be set up for the most part. And I hear there's a character wipe coming before DF2.0 so halfway done with the gather 300 logs quest you'll be wiped.
The wisest words are the following. Try both as they both have free trials and you decide.

If you try out Darkfall it will seem like a single-player game at first since the NPC cities have been pretty dead for a couple years . ... so I would definitely recommend finding people to play with on day one. There are always new people coming into Darkfall or others willing to group with you but you have to take some effort to find them so that the game doesn't seem so dead. If you get into an active clan than the game feels completely different and you may find yourself with not enough time to enjoy Darkfall as much as you would like to. I wish I had more time to play myself and to be honest I would even have fun with rerolling instead of playing a different MMORPG if I had the time.
Darkfall has enough population and stuff to do to keep any player busy at all times so long as you are in a decent clan. PVP is instant anytime that you want it when you are in a good clan.
The only way that I would say that MO is better than Darkfall is if you only have a month or two to play. Darkfall has a lot more content, a world that seems to be a almost dozen times bigger, and generally more stuff to do. The combat is a lot funner in my opinion and definitely more of an adrenaline rush potentially involved.
Darkfall is currently my favortie MMORPG by far and although many others are better in some aspects, I think that Darkfall is worth the time put into it more than the others. NEWS FLASH! A bank was robbed the other day and a man opened fire on the customers being held hostage. One customer zig-zag sprinted until he found cover. When questioned later he explained that he was a hardcore Darkfall Online player and knew just what to do. |

Ya, I really wanna play DF alot since I was really active on the DF forums back in the day and I just really got drawn into the idea of playing it lol. I wish I had the 30 dollars right now, I already made a trial account and now its not letting me play it says too many trial accounts. Does uninstalling and reinstalling fix that and can i play another trial? last time i played the trial i didnt really play it too much and now I wish I had. |

To me it's quite simple. DF-no skill cap=EPIC GRIND. MO-skill cap=WINNER.

In all honesty, neither at the moment. You are best off waiting to see what happens with DF 2.0 (if it ever actually happens), or to see if MO gets taken over by another company. |

OP, the most important thing you want to know before purchasing is that you will buy and pay monthly sub for a product that is no longer supported. It hasn't really been updated for a year or two already, so that's the second gripe for many of us - AV has been milking money from us, promissing updates on various things in DF1.0 and pretty much none happened. What happened is announcement for DF2.0 (a pretty much new game as AV stated themselves).
What cousins of cousins say is pretty irrelevant and pure speculations as no real info is known about the need to re-purchase the new DF2.0. You may or you may not have to buy DF2.0 until AV states otherwise.
Myself, I don't support companies milking subs for unsupported game, thus I unsubscribed. I'd still be playing if they removed subscription fees (or lower them to a few euros maybe). Or if they AT LEAST told us a detailed plan of transitioning from DF1.0 to DF2.0 (wipe, re-purchase, etc.) |

MO and Darkfall are a lot of fun for a month or two. It is at this point that the weaknesses start to really show. If you are wanting to try it out I think it is worth it even if you play for the first month only. It seems like you have some financial restraints though.
Oh and I think the trial is based on IP rather than email etc. Wa min God! Se æx on min heafod is! |

MO - Fundamently flawed game that cannot be fixed. Lying, deceptive staff. |
